Chapter 126: What Goes Around Comes Around
"I don’t think Melody Monroe did anything wrong! Stop trying to guilt-trip her. If you give me something, does that mean I have to eat it?"
"Yeah, I have the right to say no, don’t I?" another person chimed in.
"But you should still have some basic manners!"
"She and Raymond Ford are from the same company. How could she embarrass her like that? Look how awkward it is for Raymond Ford."
"But don’t you guys think Raymond Ford is being a little extra? Why does she keep giving people food?"
"Didn’t you drink the milk tea Raymond Ford bought?"
"That... that seems different!"
"Whatever. I just think Melody Monroe is too difficult to get along with. Raymond Ford has a great personality."
Talia Mercer listened to everyone’s gossip, seething with anger.
’This Raymond Ford, will she ever stop?!’ She fumed as she walked over to Melody Monroe and plopped down into a chair, sulking.
"What’s wrong?" Melody Monroe asked with concern, seeing Talia’s furious expression.
"Melody, Raymond Ford is clearly doing this on purpose! We haven’t done anything to provoke her, so how can she be so shameless?"
"Don’t worry about her. Just let her be extra."
"But this is bad for your reputation!"
"Don’t worry. What goes around, comes around."
...
Melody Monroe’s consistent behavior left Raymond Ford feeling helpless.
She couldn’t keep giving things away, pretending to curry favor with Melody Monroe. Besides, a tactic like this would backfire if used for too long.
Although news of these incidents had spread online, only her loyal fans were speaking out against the injustice. It hadn’t caused much of a stir.
She began to wonder if she should try a different method.
But she was afraid of making too big a scene and having Rose Shaw discover something.
Leah Young approached Raymond Ford and asked softly, "Raymond, it’s almost noon. What do you want to eat today?"
"Go to the most high-end restaurant nearby and order some dishes. Get a portion for Melody Monroe, too."
Leah Young’s expression immediately turned troubled. "Raymond, I think..." she began, hesitating.
"This is the last time." A flicker of determination flashed in Raymond Ford’s eyes.
’She and Melody Monroe could never coexist peacefully. There was no such thing as being evenly matched—one mountain cannot contain two tigers!’
At lunchtime, just as Melody Monroe was about to eat, Raymond Ford approached again.
Raymond Ford and Leah Young were carrying many takeout containers.
"Melody Monroe, you haven’t ordered lunch yet, have you? Let’s eat together." Raymond Ford placed the food on a nearby table.
Melody Monroe looked at the spread, a smile in her eyes.
Raymond Ford’s grand display attracted a lot of attention. Everyone was probably wondering if Melody Monroe would once again ignore Raymond Ford and treat her goodwill as if it were nothing.
"Melody Monroe, are you going through some difficulties lately? If you are, just say the word. If there’s anything I can do to help, I definitely will."
"What difficulties would I be having?" Melody Monroe retorted with a smile.
"Well, I’ve noticed you seem a little... Are you having financial troubles? Of course, I’m just guessing! Even Rose said you look malnourished. How can you get by eating like this every day? Maintaining your figure is important, sure, but your health is even more important!"
It was true that Melody Monroe lived a rather frugal life.
The crew had gossiped about it amongst themselves.
This was especially true when Winter Kane drove over in the used car Rose Shaw had given Melody, parking it right next to Raymond Ford’s car. The contrast between the two vehicles made Melody’s look utterly shabby.
Raymond Ford said all this simply to embarrass Melody Monroe.
Based on her understanding of Melody Monroe, pride was more important to her than life itself.
