Chapter 307: This Is Just the Beginning
Raymond Ford bought followers and paid for fake positive reviews. Rose Shaw had dropped her for the very same reason—she’d seen her true colors.
Even the sports car she loved to show off wasn’t really hers; it was revealed she was buying it on an installment plan. She acted like she was rolling in cash, but in reality, the bank was hounding her for debts, and she couldn’t even pay off her credit card.
’So that’s how she was scraping together the money for her debts!’
So much for her ’good upbringing’ and ’rather be single than settle,’ huh?
How embarrassing!
"And to think she used to mock Melody Monroe for being poor, all while buying her snacks every day. Looking back, it was all just an act!"
"Where are Raymond Ford’s fans now? Why is no one defending her? Fifty percent of her engagement was bought and paid for, so all her stats are fake, right? It’s probably more like eighty percent zombie followers!"
Raymond Ford glanced at the firestorm online and immediately closed the browser tab.
She couldn’t bear these consequences!
She was terrified this was only the beginning.
Lana Sheffield had invested heavily in Raymond Ford, pouring a fortune into a movie just to make her the female lead.
This whole situation made her so furious it nearly jeopardized her pregnancy!
’Under these circumstances, how can I possibly still use her?!’
Wayne Payne stole a glance at Lana Sheffield, not daring to even breathe too loudly.
"What the hell do I pay you for? Why didn’t you handle the PR? How could you let things escalate to this point!" Lana Sheffield demanded furiously.
"Mrs. Sterling, this is incredibly difficult to handle. It’s not a matter of my ability, it’s that Raymond Ford... she... she really did do all those things."
"Besides, the person trying to destroy Raymond Ford from the shadows is too powerful!"
"You see, those executives Raymond Ford was involved with are all prominent figures. One of them came out and tried to clear her name, right? But the very next day, his company’s stock price crashed!"
"After that, no one else dared to make a sound."
Lana Sheffield took a deep breath as she listened to Wayne Payne’s explanation.
’The Sheffield Family has been in a complete mess lately. I’d better not bother Christopher with something this trivial.’
"If we replace Raymond Ford now, what are the losses?" Lana Sheffield asked.
"Roughly a thirty-million-dollar loss."
"Get Rhona Hughes. Replace Raymond Ford!"
"Mrs. Sterling, that’s a thirty-million-dollar loss!"
"If we don’t replace her, will anyone even watch the movie? We could lose every last penny!"
"I understand! It’s just... a loss that big is a real shame."
"You think I don’t know that?!" Lana Sheffield roared.
"Ma’am, please calm down. Don’t let this affect your health." Wayne Payne had wanted to plead Raymond Ford’s case one more time, but seeing how resolute Lana Sheffield was, he didn’t dare say another word.
Lana Sheffield grabbed her handbag and stormed out.
Raymond Ford was standing right outside. She hadn’t dared to go in, knowing Lana Sheffield wouldn’t let her off the hook. But at the same time, Lana was her only chance at a comeback.
’As long as there’s no evidence about what happened with Claire Ross, I can still salvage my reputation from all this other dirt.’
’If even Lana Sheffield gives up on me, then I’ll have no chance of turning this around.’
Lana Sheffield was still seething. The moment she stepped out and saw Raymond Ford standing before her, she raised her hand and slapped her across the face.
Raymond Ford was stunned by the slap, but she didn’t dare move an inch.
"I’m sorry, Ma’am," Raymond Ford immediately apologized.
"’I’m sorry’? That’s rich coming from you! Do you have any idea how much money I’ve lost? Thirty million! Raymond Ford, I’m holding you responsible for every single cent of that thirty million!"
"Ma’am, as long as you don’t abandon me, I’ll stay by your side and do anything for you! I swear I’ll find a way to make up for these losses!"
