Chapter 176: A Secret Crush
She read those few sentences over and over again.
Melody Monroe bit her finger, staring at her phone screen, and suddenly let out a soft chuckle.
’This bittersweet feeling spreading through my heart... it couldn’t be the sickeningly sweet scent of love, could it?!’
Melody Monroe was startled.
’Have I really fallen for Evan Fairchild?’
The thought terrified her.
’Then again, with a man like Evan Fairchild, it’d be strange *not* to fall for him.’
’Thinking about it, Evan is really different from how he was described in the original novel. He knew about Ian’s existence so early on, but he never disturbed us. Even though he arranged for Auntie Lana to be there, it was just as a neighbor to look after Ian. He didn’t forcefully separate me from Ian. The fact that he let me stay with Ian made me feel very favorably toward him. He even tears bread for people and sends me pictures he takes of Ian. He’s not that hard to get along with, actually. That day, he told me himself that he would never hurt me, which completely put my mind at ease. Moreover, everything he’d quietly arranged for Ian gave me a sense of security. It was a kind of security I had never had before, but had always yearned for. I feel completely at ease with him taking care of Ian. It’s a kind of trust that can’t be put into words. Having someone whose mere presence makes you feel inexplicably at ease... that feeling is true happiness.’
She rolled over and stared at the ceiling, then smacked herself on the head.
’Melody, have you lost your mind? It’s the middle of the night, and instead of sleeping, you’re here swooning! You can’t stop thinking about all of Evan Fairchild’s good qualities!’
"Melody, just let yourself like him a little, secretly. Don’t get any delusional ideas!"
Although she had yet to meet the rest of the Fairchild Family, she vividly remembered the humiliation the original character suffered at the birthday banquet for Evan Fairchild’s mother, which she had attended uninvited in the novel.
The status of a family like the Fairchilds couldn’t be captured by a simple term like "prestigious."
Evan Fairchild’s power alone was enough to qualify him as a top-tier powerhouse!
’I’m not good enough for Evan Fairchild.’
’I’m just a mediocre sophomore in college.’
’The original owner of this body was even worse—a high school dropout with no good qualities besides a pretty face.’
’Evan Fairchild is the brightest star in the galaxy, while I’m just a speck of dust. There’s an uncrossable chasm between us.’
Melody Monroe had never known what it felt like to hold someone in her heart.
’I’ll just keep him there, secretly.’
She was already content with that.
...
The moment her alarm went off, Melody Monroe shot up and hurried to the bathroom.
’If I’d known, I would have washed my hair last night. Then this morning wouldn’t be such a hassle.’
’Sigh, people are so contradictory!’
’My morning self wants to beat up my last-night self.’
Talia Mercer came into the room carrying breakfast. Melody walked out of the bathroom with her hair wrapped in a towel.
"Melody, time for breakfast."
"Let me dry my hair first. Ugh, I have so much hair, blow-drying it is exhausting enough to kill me."
"Is that your excuse for being too lazy to wash your hair?"
"Is there a better one?" Melody shot back with a smile.
"If your fans knew you had zero care for your celebrity image, I wonder what their expressions would be." Talia Mercer walked over and picked up the blow-dryer. "Here, I’ll help you."
"Thank you, thank you! Talia, you must be a little fairy sent from heaven!"
Talia Mercer couldn’t help but chuckle.
’Have you ever seen a celebrity like this? Sucking up to her own assistant.’
After finishing breakfast, Melody Monroe hurried downstairs.
Winter Kane was already waiting for her.
