Chapter 501: Have a Son? The Kind That Makes You Drop Dead from Anger
The look on Evan Fairchild’s face was priceless. He was so furious he looked like he was about to drop dead on the spot.
Just then, Melody Monroe’s car pulled up.
The father and son both looked toward the car in unison.
Melody Monroe stepped out of the car, and a small figure holding an umbrella ran toward her.
Melody immediately took the umbrella and pulled Ian Monroe into her arms. "It’s raining. Why are you all outside?"
Melody Monroe had no idea that today was the day Ian was supposed to return to Rockwellburg.
Nor did she know how fiercely the father and son had been battling behind her back.
On the surface, they appeared to be a happy and harmonious family, a picture of a loving father and a devoted son.
"Mommy, my vacation was only a few days long, and I was supposed to go back to Rockwellburg today. But Daddy couldn’t bear to see me go, and he wanted me to stay. He was just about to take my luggage back inside! I don’t want to leave you either, Mommy, so... can I please stay in Jansburg?"
Before Melody could respond, Ian quickly added, "Daddy already called and asked Auntie Lana and my private tutor to come to Jansburg."
Evan Fairchild: ’I think I’m going to need an ambulance.’
Tommy: ’The young master’s game is almost on the same level as the big boss’s!’
"Of course you can! I thought you were going to live with Mommy and Daddy here in Jansburg! I can’t bear the thought of you going back to Rockwellburg. Besides, you’re not in kindergarten anymore. You have a private tutor, so it’s the same whether you’re in Jansburg or Rockwellburg, isn’t it?"
"Yeah," Ian said with a smiling nod. "That’s what Daddy said just now, too."
Evan Fairchild: ...
Melody led Ian over to Evan Fairchild. "Darling, what’s wrong? You don’t look well."
"Everything’s alright? Why are you back so early today?" Evan Fairchild could only swallow his frustration.
"Mommy, it’s cold out here. Let’s go inside to talk." Ian considerately took his mother’s hand and started walking toward the house. He didn’t forget to look back and order Evan Fairchild, "Daddy, while you’re at it, bring Bunny and my suitcase."
Suppressing his anger, Evan Fairchild took the dopey-looking pig out of the car, grabbed the small suitcase from the trunk, and headed inside.
As soon as he was inside, he saw that Ian had already gotten his mother’s slippers for her and was warming her hands in his, acting like a little grown-up.
"Mommy, your hands are so cold. Let me warm them for you."
Melody smiled and stroked Ian’s head. "My dear Ian, you’re going to grow up to be such a gentleman."
"Mommy, since it’s raining today, we can’t play outside. Can we read a book together in a little bit?"
"Of course," Melody agreed with a nod.
Evan Fairchild looked from Ian and Melody to the pig in his arms. Bunny looked up at him and let out two dopey oinks.
Evan Fairchild tossed Bunny onto the sofa and walked over to Melody.
"Have you eaten?"
"I had a little something on set. The moment I knew I could wrap for the day, I started thinking about the soup I figured you’d have simmering, so I rushed back."
"I’ll go get you a bowl."
"I’ll have it in a little while." Melody leaned against him, nestling into his arms.
With a beautiful woman suddenly in his arms, some of Evan Fairchild’s frustration melted away.
"Keith Coleman told me today that he got word I’ve been nominated for the Golden Orchid Award for Best Newcomer. It’s a pretty prestigious award. If I could win it, it would be real validation for my acting."
"You’ll definitely win it."
Melody suddenly lifted her head from his arms and looked at him with a serious expression. "I want to win it through my own hard work. No pulling strings behind the scenes."
"Don’t worry. I’ll just make sure no one else pulls any strings," Evan Fairchild replied with a smile. "Let me get you that bowl of soup. Have a rest after you finish it."
"Mm-hmm." Melody nodded lightly.
