Chapter 170: A Personally Picked Gift
After the meeting, Evan Fairchild opened WeChat. He already had a message.
A picture of a kitten and a line of text: Mr. Fairchild, I’ve arrived.
’So cute!’
Evan Fairchild saved the picture. He put his phone away and continued with his work.
During a break in filming, Melody Monroe took out her phone and glanced at WeChat.
He hadn’t replied to the message she sent Evan Fairchild yet.
’He must have seen it, right?’
’Then again, it’s perfectly normal for him not to reply.’
’In fact, she’d find it strange if he did reply.’
Melody Monroe put her phone away. For some reason, a strange feeling flickered through her heart. It was as if she was secretly hoping for a reply.
Even if it was just a simple "Mm."
"Melody." A voice suddenly called out.
"Mr. Langdon, you’re here."
"Mm, I just got here." Zane Langdon sat down, handing what he was holding to Melody. "This is for you."
"What is it?"
"Open it and see."
Melody opened the box. Inside was an embroidered shawl.
"Wow, this is exquisite!"
"This is Embroidery, handcrafted by folk artisans."
"This must be the work of a master!" Melody didn’t know much about the craft, but she could tell just by looking at the workmanship that it was incredibly valuable.
"I’m glad you like it."
"I can’t possibly accept such an expensive gift, Mr. Langdon. I really can’t take it."
"It would be more awkward if you didn’t accept it. This is the first time I’ve personally picked out a gift for someone."
Melody froze for a moment, feeling she could no longer refuse. "Thank you, Mr. Langdon. In that case, I’ll accept it."
Zane Langdon suddenly leaned a bit closer to Melody. "Is your allergy better?"
"It’s better! All better." Melody backed away slightly, putting some distance between them. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Langdon. I’ve completely recovered."
"Did something happen? Why were you in such a rush to go back to Rockwellburg?"
"Just some personal business."
Zane Langdon nodded and didn’t press the issue.
"Mr. Langdon, Melody, could you two come over here, please? Let’s run through the scene!"
"Okay!" the two replied in unison.
...
「The President’s Office at Stellaris.」
Wayne Payne walked into Christopher Sterling’s office, holding a contract.
Rhona Hughes stood just outside, waiting anxiously.
’She’d been jobless for over a month. If this keeps up, I’m really done for!’
Wayne Payne didn’t want to see Rhona Hughes’s career fizzle out, so he decided to make one last push. He knew Stellaris had some new investment projects and hoped he could secure one for her.
However, he walked into Christopher Sterling’s office and came out less than five minutes later.
Rhona Hughes immediately rushed up to him.
"How did it go? What did President Sterling say?"
"He said Rose Shaw is in charge of it."
"Rose Shaw’s in charge! It’s Rose Shaw again! That woman wants to drive me into the ground! How could she possibly give me a chance!" The hope in Rhona Hughes’s eyes died, bit by bit.
"Don’t tell me... Melody really slept with President Sterling?" Rhona Hughes looked at Wayne Payne.
"Why are you looking at me like that? How would I know?"
"If President Sterling is backing Rose Shaw, he’s backing Melody, isn’t he? The rumors have been going around for a while now! And where there’s smoke, there’s fire!"
Someone who overheard these words stopped in their tracks.
The moment she stopped, the few people following her also came to a halt.
The woman wore a high-end, custom-made cocktail dress and had waist-length hair. She had an incredibly elegant air about her.
However, the people beside her didn’t dare to look directly at her, keeping their heads bowed in deference.
Lana Sheffield, the little Princess of the Sheffield Family, the apple of their eye.
She glanced in Rhona Hughes’s direction, her eyes filled with aloof pride and cold contempt.
"Who is Melody Monroe?" Lana Sheffield asked the assistant behind her.
"A new artist signed with Stellaris."
Lana Sheffield strode toward Christopher Sterling’s office.
