Chapter 560: Powerfully Protecting His Wife
Kelley’s uncle, Carter Huxley, roared, "Who the hell are you? You dare come to Xavier Village and throw your weight around? You got a death wish?"
The town official’s brother-in-law quickly said, "A misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! It’s all his fault. Just teach him a lesson; this has nothing to do with us!"
He was pointing at Zane Coleman. ’He’d long heard that country folk were savage, and now he was seeing it firsthand. He couldn’t afford to mess with them.’
"I’m Kelley Xavier’s fiancé! We’re engaged! Me getting a little intimate with my fiancée is none of your damn business! Mind your own business, you meddling fools!"
Zane Coleman was still acting arrogant, though his voice had weakened. He was, after all, terrified of Grandpa Huxley’s pig-slaughtering knife. But he couldn’t accept defeat. ’I’ll just ruin Kelley Xavier’s reputation,’ he thought. ’That way, she’ll have no choice but to marry me.’
’I was actually thinking of settling down and living a proper life with this little slut. Hmph! But she’s out fooling around with other men. They’ve probably already slept together. Otherwise, why would this tall punk stick up for her? I’m a man; I know exactly what men are like. He must have gotten a taste, and that’s why he’s backing this little slut up.’
’Since this little slut started it, she can’t blame me for what I do next!’
’Just wait until we’re married. I’ll show this little slut.’
"Who said I’m engaged to you? I have nothing to do with you! You... You’re spouting utter bullshit!" Kelley Xavier’s face was pale with rage. ’I’d rather be a nun for the rest of my life than marry a scumbag like him!’
"Your parents agreed, and they took my money! How can you say it has nothing to do with you? Hmph! You’re my woman now. I’ll touch you when I want and sleep with you when I want!" Zane Coleman was incredibly arrogant, and his words were utterly vile.
Kelley was both furious and humiliated. More than that, she hated her father for disregarding their family ties and pushing her into this hell for a bit of money. Howard Thorne had heard enough. He kicked Zane Coleman squarely in the face, successfully shutting him up.
"Her mom took your money, so go marry her mom! Still think a toad like you can eat swan meat? In your dreams! Let me make this crystal clear: she’s already engaged to me. If you dare try to mess with my woman again, I’ll beat the living shit out of you!"
Howard Thorne lifted his foot, a look of pure, savage arrogance on his face. His presence was overwhelming. When it came to being shameless and aggressive, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in Clearspring Township tougher than the three Thorne brothers. A guy like Zane Coleman had to back down; he couldn’t win a fight against them, and he couldn’t out-bully them either.
The color returned to Kelley’s face, which had been pale with anger, and she shyly turned her head away. Despite herself, a warmth spread through her heart.
’Even though she knew Howard Thorne was only saying these things to help her, a man had still rushed forward to protect her in her most desperate moment. Even if it was just an act, she couldn’t help but feel touched.’
Grandpa Huxley and the others, however, just looked at each other in stunned silence. What was going on?
’Since when was the Xavier girl dating their eldest grandson?’
The town official’s brother-in-law was desperate to leave, and even more terrified of the pig-slaughtering knife in Grandpa Huxley’s hand. He started sucking up for all he was worth. "Zane Coleman, you shameless bastard! Why don’t you take a piss and look at your own reflection? With that ugly mug of yours, you’re worlds apart from this handsome, dashing young man! Just look at this guy—he’s even better-looking than Winston Ward! He and this young lady are a match made in heaven, a perfect pair. You’re just a toad with no self-awareness, insisting on coming here to be a pest. You deserve to get beaten to death!"
[PS: Winston Ward was a famous actor from the ’60s and ’70s and was widely considered a heartthrob of that era.]
Howard Thorne couldn’t help but puff out his chest, a proud look on his face. He even felt a bit more warmly toward the town official’s brother-in-law. ’This guy has a good eye,’ he thought. ’And he knows how to talk.’
