Chapter 587: Will, the Emperor of Overthinking
Ellie Ashton’s carriage was a bit far off. She had bought her ticket at the last minute, whereas Adrian Hawthorne had purchased his the day before. That one-night difference meant they were two carriages apart. However, Ellie was assigned a lower bunk, so she swapped with a male passenger on an upper bunk in Tang Xiaonan’s compartment.
Goldie Thorne didn’t come on this trip; he was out handling business. The group occupied two compartments, and since Tang Xiaonan didn’t need a ticket, they all took turns letting her use their bunks.
The journey was relatively smooth, and two days later, they arrived in Capria. Will was there at the station to greet them personally. He was acting on Crazy Feng’s orders to pick up Tang Xiaonan and take her to her lodgings.
"The boss said a hotel would be too restrictive, so he arranged for a house," Will said with a smile.
"Please thank Crazy Feng for us," Adrian Hawthorne said, accepting the offer without ceremony.
Will led them to the house—a charming little villa that had been cleaned spotless. It was fully furnished and even had a beautiful little garden. And what’s more—
"Boss, they’re here!"
Will shouted to the house next door. A figure emerged, walking out slowly. He gave Tang Xiaonan’s group a reserved glance and said coolly, "So you’ve arrived. Go get some rest. We’ll have dinner together tonight."
With that, he clasped his hands behind his back and shuffled back into his house in a pair of flip-flops, not sparing them a second glance. Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought he couldn’t stand the sight of them.
Will muttered under his breath, ’He goes on and on about them when they’re not here, but now that they’ve arrived, he completely ignores them. I have no idea what’s going through his head.’
’I can’t figure out the boss at all these days,’ he thought. ’He’s not that old, so why hasn’t he gotten married?’
’Could it be... his health?’
Will’s eyes widened as a possibility struck him. ’What reason could a man have for not having kids, other than... you know, not being able to perform?’
He slapped his forehead in frustration, cursing his own denseness. ’I should have realized this sooner! If I’d figured it out a few years ago, I could have found an old traditional medicine doctor to treat the boss. By now, his kid might be old enough to run errands!’
"You all get some rest. Dinner will be over at the boss’s place."
With that, Will hurried away. He had to find an old traditional medicine doctor who specialized in men’s health to give the boss a thorough treatment. ’It’s all my fault,’ he thought. ’I’m such an irresponsible subordinate. The boss must have an issue he’s too embarrassed to talk about, and here I am, constantly nagging him about it. I’m terrible!’
He slapped himself across the face in self-reproach and picked up his pace. ’I have to find the best traditional medicine doctor,’ he resolved. ’And I’ll get some... nourishing animal penises while I’m at it. Like cures like, right? The people of Capria are masters of medicinal soups. I’ll have my wife stew up a pot for the boss tonight.’
The villa wasn’t large, but the decor was highly elegant—clearly not Crazy Feng’s style. The walls were adorned with antique-looking calligraphy and paintings. Although Ellie Ashton was curious, she was discreet and held back from asking any questions.
That evening, Crazy Feng had a sumptuous dinner prepared. Will’s wife had done the cooking herself—authentic, home-style dishes that tasted wonderful. Crazy Feng pinched Tang Xiaonan’s cheeks a few times and grumbled, "You’ve lost weight!"
’This little girl is so much cuter when she’s chubby,’ Crazy Feng thought, his imagination running wild with scenarios of her not eating well at home. He ladled a bowl of soup from the pot in front of him and placed it before Tang Xiaonan. "Here, drink up."
’Soup is the most nutritious food, and they take their soups very seriously here in Capria,’ he mused. ’Will’s wife may not be a looker, but her soup-making skills are top-notch. And Will was being so secretive about it, saying it was a special tonic soup he had made just for me. The cheapskate. As if I’m short on money! Making just one small pot of soup for me alone... preposterous.’
The color drained from Will’s face. He whispered a reminder, "Boss, Sarah made that soup specially for you. They can have this chicken soup."
