Chapter 529: The Rise of Rosalind Green
Adrian Hawthorne frowned. He still felt he’d be more at ease if a professional doctor examined her. He wasn’t doubting whether Rosalind Green would dare to attack someone, but whether she was mentally stable.
If Rosalind Green really did attack someone tonight, he figured it was more likely because she was mentally unstable.
"It’s the actual attacking that would be abnormal."
Adrian Hawthorne snapped, but Tang Xiaonan didn’t get what he meant at all.
Tang Xiaonan blinked again and finally understood. ’So, the future big shot thinks his mom has lost her mind just because she’s willing to attack someone? This isn’t how it’s supposed to go, is it?’
’Shouldn’t he be gratified?’
’This big shot is definitely the one who’s not right in the head.’
"I think you’re the one who’s not normal! My mom taught your mom personally, and she taught her all her best tricks! So how is she not normal? Is there something wrong with your head?"
The outspoken Jim Thorne couldn’t hold back any longer, blurting out what everyone was thinking.
They truly felt that Adrian Hawthorne was the abnormal one, not Rosalind Green.
What kind of son acts like that!
The corner of Tang Xiaonan’s mouth twitched. ’So it’s not just me,’ she thought.
Old Master Tate advised with a gentle laugh, "People can grow, you know. Your mother used to be a bit timid, but under the tutelage of Xiaonan’s mother, she’s made huge progress. Haven’t you noticed she can now carry a full pole of water with ease?"
Adrian Hawthorne paused, his conviction wavering. ’Come to think of it,’ he thought, ’the house hasn’t been short on water recently. The cistern is always full.’ He hadn’t noticed such small details. ’Did my mother really carry all that water?’
They didn’t have a well; they used water from a mountain spring. The spring water collected in a pool halfway up the mountain, about half a kilometer from the Hawthorne home. All their household water had to be carried from there. Adrian had always been the one to do it, but lately, he’d been busy with his cloth business. Since he always saw the cistern full, he hadn’t given it a second thought.
Old Master Tate nodded. "Not only is your mother carrying the water, but she’s also cutting grass for the pigs and herding the ducks. Kenneth, your mother has changed a lot recently. You can’t keep seeing her as the person she used to be."
Tang Xiaonan nodded emphatically. "Aunt Green is really capable now. My mom says she still has room to grow."
Jim Thorne immediately chimed in, shouting, "My mom said she’s going to teach your mom her secrets to butchering pigs! My mom’s the best pig butcher in all of Clearspring Township—even my dad can’t compare to her."
The look on his face, which clearly said, ’You’re getting a huge bargain here,’ made Old Master Tate and Clayton Xavier unable to suppress their laughter. Adrian Hawthorne’s expression was indescribable. ’His mother... butchering pigs?’
He couldn’t even imagine it.
’She probably couldn’t even handle a suckling pig.’
Still, he took the advice to heart. Perhaps his mother really had changed. Old Master Tate was right; he shouldn’t judge people based on how they used to be.
The door was suddenly flung open again, and Rosalind Green walked out, a knife in her hand. Everyone jumped. What was she going to do?
A moment later, the sound of scraping metal came from the courtyard. SCRAPE. SCRAPE. Everyone went outside and saw Rosalind Green intently sharpening a knife. Her practiced posture made Adrian Hawthorne’s expression even more peculiar. ’Is my mother really going to learn how to butcher pigs?’
"Xiaonan, don’t forget to give your youngest uncle a heads-up!"
Rosalind Green looked up and spoke calmly before lowering her head to continue sharpening the knife. With her lips pressed into a thin, tight line, she looked all the more defiant. She was going to prove herself and make her son see her in a new light.
’She—was no longer the Rosalind Green of the past!’
’If one of them comes tonight, I’ll take one down. If a pair shows up, I’ll take them both down. We’ll see who dares to bully me ever again!’
Tang Xiaonan glanced at Adrian Hawthorne. He was expressionless. After a moment’s hesitation, she agreed to Rosalind Green’s request. "I’ll go tell my youngest uncle right now."
Rosalind Green nodded in satisfaction and went back to sharpening her knife, the blade glinting coldly.
The corner of Adrian Hawthorne’s mouth twitched again, but he didn’t object, giving his tacit approval.
