Chapter 536: Storm Xavier Doesn’t Want to Die

Clayton Xavier didn’t go out today. Storm Xavier was gravely ill. In just a few short days, he had become bedridden. The medicine his grandma prescribed wasn’t working; in fact, his condition was only getting worse.

Although he detested his father, Clayton Xavier couldn’t just stand by and watch him die.

"I’ll borrow a car and take Father to the clinic."

During breakfast, Clayton Xavier announced his plan. Verna Golding’s eyes flickered, and she subconsciously glanced at the old lady.

The old lady’s expression was calm. She sipped her congee slowly and said in a hoarse voice, "There’s no need. Your father just has a common cold. He’ll be fine after a few days of rest. Don’t waste money."

Verna Golding’s chopsticks trembled. She lowered her head and ate her congee, not saying a word.

"COUGH COUGH..."

Storm Xavier’s violent coughs echoed from the room, sounding as if he were trying to hack up a lung. Clayton Xavier frowned slightly and said hesitantly, "But he’s coughing so badly. I’m afraid he won’t get better without an injection."

"I’ve switched to a new prescription. He’ll be better by tomorrow. Don’t waste your time with these trivial matters." The old lady’s tone was firm, refusing to let Clayton Xavier take him to the hospital.

Clayton Xavier hesitated, then decided not to press the issue. ’I’ll check on him again tomorrow,’ he thought. ’If he’s still not better, I’ll take him to the hospital. He’s my father, after all. I’m not that heartless.’

"I’ll go check on him."

Clayton Xavier stood up and went into Storm Xavier’s room. Verna Golding looked uneasily at the old lady, who shot her a glare. "Go to work. I’ll wash the bowls."

Verna Golding bit her lip, then suddenly calmed down. ’This is for the best,’ she thought. ’There’s nothing for me to panic about.’

Storm Xavier lay listlessly on the bed. His face was sallow, and his cheeks were so sunken they looked like hollows, giving him a skeletal appearance. Storm Xavier had always been thin, but at least he’d had red lips, white teeth, and handsome features—the very picture of a beautiful man. But even the most handsome person becomes ghastly when they’re nothing but skin and bones.

"COUGH COUGH..."

Storm Xavier coughed every few seconds, each one weak and listless. Clayton Xavier’s brow furrowed. The situation was not looking good. Catching a cold in the middle of summer was truly strange.

But Storm Xavier’s health was usually poor, so Clayton Xavier didn’t think much of it. He was about to check Storm Xavier’s pulse when the old lady came in. "Clayton, go and study. Heatstroke is contagious."

Hearing the old lady’s voice, Storm Xavier’s face changed drastically. Fear filled his eyes, and he curled up into a ball like a shrimp. But Clayton Xavier had his back to him at that moment and didn’t see his strange reaction.

"Grandma, you should be careful too. Your cough hasn’t fully healed yet," Clayton Xavier said with some concern.

The old lady smiled faintly. "I’m fine. Go and study."

"COUGH COUGH..."

Storm Xavier coughed desperately. At that moment, he desperately wished his son would stay. He didn’t dare to be in the same room alone with the old lady. He was afraid!

But Clayton Xavier didn’t hear his silent plea and left. He had to hurry back to his books and finish the homework Mr. Tate had assigned. The English vocabulary was especially difficult for Clayton, who had no foundation in the language. He was too far behind Adrian Hawthorne and needed to spend extra time to catch up.

Unconsciously, Clayton Xavier was secretly competing with Adrian Hawthorne.

Storm Xavier watched the old lady in despair. He knew exactly what was happening to him. He didn’t want to die. He wanted to live. He still wanted to be reunited with his own father, who doted on him and would never stand by and watch him suffer.

"Drink the medicine."

The old lady came in from outside, carrying a bowl of medicine. The dark, murky liquid gave off a pungent odor that made Storm Xavier gag. He shook his head forcefully and clamped his mouth shut, but the old lady wouldn’t have it. She pried his jaw open, and the entire bowl of medicine was poured down his throat.
