Chapter 72: Song Yulan’s Condition
Ye Lingyue’s sleepiness completely faded away in an instant. She didn’t even have the chance to change her dress before she went out and knocked on her twin brother’s room.
"Third Brother, open the door!" She yelled almost urgently.
The moment the door was opened, she immediately grabbed the sleepy Ye Lingrui and dragged him toward the first branch’s home.
"Where are you two–"
Before Ye Lanxi could finish his words, his younger twin siblings already walked quite a distance away, causing him not to finish his words.
He threw them an irritated look. "Where are you two going?"
When the three arrived at the first branch’s house, Ye Lingyue immediately knocked on the door harshly. "Open the door! Cousin!"
"Lingyue, what’s going on?" Ye Lanxi gave her a puzzled look, while Ye Lingrui joined her in knocking the door, his action more controlled than the irritated Ye Lingyue.
Seeing them ignore him again, Ye Lanxi became annoyed. He raised his hand and gave the door a knock, but suddenly he thought of something.
He raised his foot and kicked the door with so much force that it flew open, snapping off its wooden joinery.
Ye Mingyuan was frightened, letting out a small yelp as the door fell into the floor in front of him.
He had been heading to the door to scold whoever was making ruckus in the front yard, and fortunately, he hadn’t taken another step forward. Otherwise, the door would have fallen on him.
He rubbed his chest before turning to Ye Lanxi and others angrily. "What are you doing here?!"
Ye Lingyue immediately entered the door without warning, still dragging her twin brother along with her. Ye Lingrui just let himself get dragged away.
Soon, they arrived in front of a room. There was a panicked yell mixed with a woman’s pained groan and sobs.
"Cousin, are you inside? I am bringing my Third Brother to take a look at your wife." Ye Lingyue said in a loud voice.
The door flew open, and their pupils contracted when they saw the scene inside.
Song Yulan was sitting on a pool of blood, clutching her stomach with tears streaming down her face.
"Third Brother, hurry up. I will get some herbs here." Ye Lingyue pushed Ye Lingrui inside.
She ran toward the door like lightning.
Ye Lanxi had a stunned look on his face, and he stood there awkwardly until he heard Ye Lingrui tell him to go get some cloths. He immediately bolted away, almost running into Zheng Huizhen.
The woman widened her eyes, and she was about to scold him when he walked past her and headed to the place where the first branch had kept their clothes.
"Let go of that thing!" Zheng Huizhen hurriedly went after Ye Lanxi, trying to snatch the bundle of clothes from him.
She already guessed what they were going to do. When she saw Song Yulan in pain after what she did to her, Zheng Huizhen indeed felt a sense of guilt eating her away.
However, she still hardened her heart and repeatedly told herself she was doing it for the best. After that, she ran away from the scene, not wanting to see Song Yulan’s scary appearance.
Seeing her second son also somehow amplified her guilt, as though she was caught doing something wrong, but the guilt was quickly washed away when she heard what her second son had said.
"Mother, the brats from the second branch broke into our house and headed there," Ye Mingyuan muttered, pointing to the area occupied by Ye Jincheng and Song Yulan.
He had heard what his mother had done...
Zheng Huizhen went back to her eldest son’s room, determined to kick the meddlesome children from the second branch.
Currently, Ye Lanxi had already gathered clues about what was happening, and he directly pushed Zheng Huizhen away.
Zheng Huizhen staggered back, her hips hit the table behind her.
"Ruthless old witch!" Ye Lanxi cursed before he ran back toward the couple’s room.
Ye Lingyue was already there, grinding some medicine. Her movement was quick, and in another minute, she was finished.
"Cousin-in-law, drink the medicine," Ye Lingrui told Song Yulan.
However, the woman acted as though she hadn’t heard him. Realizing she must have been too shocked by what was happening to her, Ye Jincheng immediately helped his cousin to pry open Song Yulan’s mouth.
"Ah Yu, drink it," he said anxiously.
Song Yulan wanted to resist; the bitter taste felt so uncomfortable to her tongue, but...
"Cousin-in-law, drink it. There is a chance we might be able to save your baby." Ye Lingrui told her firmly when he saw her almost spitting out the medicine she had just drank.
Ye Lingyue might not have the second batch of such medicine, so they must not let her waste it.
"W-what?" Song Yulan asked in a hoarse voice, and she hurriedly covered her mouth, not letting herself vomit out the medicine. Her face was all flushed.
Ye Jincheng’s movement also paused. He was using his own clothes to wipe the blood from his wife. He snapped to Ye Lingrui, his voice trembling slightly. "Cousin, is what you said true?"
At this moment, Ye Lanxi also entered. He put the bundle of clothes on the floor, untying it. From the looks of it, the one he grabbed was filled with women’s clothes, most likely belonging to Ye Ruxue or Zheng Huizhen.
Ye Lingrui’s words successfully stopped Zheng Huizhen in her tracks.
"Yes, the medicine will stabilize your wife and the baby inside temporarily." He explained. "Your baby is tenacious, and as long as we find the herbs, we can save it."
"I don’t agree!" Zheng Huizhen jumped into the room, pointing to Song Yulan. "You shouldn’t keep the baby!"
"Mother!" Ye Jincheng was exasperated. Worried that she might hurt his wife again, he immediately stood in front of Song Yulan to protect her.
At this moment, they suddenly heard Old Madam Ye’s slightly weak voice. "What’s with all the ruckus in such an early morning?"
