Chapter 45: Evidence
Yan Luo gloated inside his heart, full of anticipation. He was sure that Lin Su wouldn’t be able to escape the blame this time.
At this time, Commander Leng’s mouth twitched, feeling a headache coming.
These people were so restless that they wouldn’t leave a day without making trouble for him. Currently, they were already halfway to the destination, so he could only endure it.
Commander Leng’s stern eyes swept over everyone’s presence before they landed on Yan Luo.
"Captain Yan, you shouldn’t make a baseless accusation. You understand what it implies, right?" Commander Leng frowned.
Yan Luo clenched his fists, his heart full of resentment. Why is Commander Leng always so partial to Lin Su, always protecting him?!
He suppressed the surge of grievance inside his heart and told Commander Leng in a sullen tone. "Commander Leng, I won’t dare to speak carelessly if I don’t have the evidence."
He took a deep breath. "It’s impossible that there wasn’t someone deliberately plotting against my men when it’s only them who are poisoned. I beg Commander Leng to investigate and uphold justice for us!"
Ye Lingyue raised her eyebrows, swinging her feet as she sat on a tree branch. She was watching the drama with relish, looking forward to Lin Su’s reaction and his solution to get out of this.
"Grab the tree tightly and don’t fall," Ye Lanxi suddenly appeared beside her and reminded her.
She was startled, nearly slapping him. Looking at his pretentious and arrogant face, she shook her head and directed her attention back to the imperial guards.
"Call Lin Su over." Commander Leng told his men. His people saluted him before they went to execute his order.
He turned to Yan Luo, "prepare for your evidence!"
Yan Luo nodded, his face flashed with a smirk. He was sure he would definitely be able to frame Lin Su and get him punished so that all of his men’s sacrifices weren’t for nothing!
Originally, he also wanted to include the Ye family’s second branch, but he was afraid it would backfire. Their youngest daughter had such strange luck.
Besides, he thought it wasn’t worth it. He would gain nothing other than the satisfaction of revenge if he were to plot against them. On the other hand, if it was Lin Su, he could ruin his image in front of Commander Leng.
Yan Luo had gone to the nearest city to find a physician, so at this moment, he beckoned the person to enter a scene.
An elderly walked toward them. He had been taking care of Yan Luo’s subordinates and prescribed medicine to heal them.
The old man stroked his beard, almost pulling a few hairs out of fear and nervousness. He didn’t know how he had landed in this situation, surrounded by imperial guards who had worked so closely with the Emperor himself.
"This is Physician Yi. He is a talented physician who has cured countless patients." Yan Luo introduced.
Physician Yi hurriedly said, "Mr. Yan is too kind. Being a physician is simply the only thing I have been doing all my life."
On the tree, the siblings were doing live commentary. Ye Lanxi muttered, "Is this Yan Luo’s hired performer?"
Ye Lingyue examined the old man’s face and shook her head. "Doesn’t look like it. This is a real physician..."
"Then, if Yan Luo really got Lin Su’s handle, that guy is doomed," Ye Lanxi muttered, watching excitedly as Lin Su entered the scene.
Lin Su had a bewildered look on his face. He had just received the news that his subordinates were back and wanted to ask them about how their task had proceeded.
Then, the people under Commander Leng came to tell him to come with them.
"Commander Leng, do you need me for something?" Lin Su asked in an unsure tone.
He caught the sight of the smirk on Yan Luo’s face and frowned. This guy definitely will not do anything good... which means, he probably had prepared a trap for him.
Ever since he found out that his steamed bun had been poisoned, he already expected this day might come.
"Captain Yan here is accusing you of putting poison in his men’s breakfast. Do you admit to this crime?" Commander Leng asked sternly. His sharp eyes scanned his face.
Lin Su was a little startled, but it was already expected. He took a deep breath. "Commander Leng, Captain Yan’s accusation is unfounded. I have never done such a thing."
"I can prove it, Commander Leng." Yan Luo sneered, and he made a signal to Physician Yi.
Physician Yi stepped forward. Under immense pressure, he examined Lin Su. After a while, grabbed Lin Su’s wrist and sniffed his hand. He traced his finger on Lin Su’s palm.
His pupils constricted in shock. He sniffed his hand and took a step back, turning to Yan Luo and Commander Leng.
"Mr. Yan, Mr. Leng. I indeed detected traces of poisonous powder on Mr. Lin’s hand and clothes. In order to see whether it is poisonous or not, you can simply take a small piece of food and rub it on his hand."
"That way, the food will contain the powder. Then, feed the food to some small animals. If it’s positive there are poisonous substances there, they will show signs of poisoning." Physician Yi explained.
Thankfully, it was the kind of poison he could detect.
Yan Luo was determined to frame Lin Su, so he immediately brought critters he had prepared beforehand.
"When Lin Su passed by, one of my men smelled a familiar scent from him. They had sensed this smell before they were poisoned." Yan Luo explained.
Commander Leng watched without saying anything.
Yan Luo immediately ordered the other imperial guards to get some food and rub it on Lin Su.
At first, Lin Su struggled and didn’t want to be touched, but the imperial guards insisted, apologizing as they touched his clothes.
They fed the small pieces of food to the ants, small squirrels, and...
The ants died while the squirrels showed signs of poisoning, on the verge of dying.
Yan Luo had a smug look on his face. "Lin Su, what do you say?"
