`0600`

`Workshop 2-B. Basement Level.`

The blue flame never went out.

For 6 hours Kael didn’t stop.

Didn’t eat. Didn’t drink. Didn’t sit down.

`[TRASH SYSTEM: CONSTRUCTION MODE ACTIVE]`

`[Project: [Trash Golem - Grade C]]`

`[Construction Progress: 1%...15%...42%...]`

The furnace roared. Metal screamed as it melted.

The `Auto-Scrap Arm Lv.2` moved on its own now. `[Multi-Grab]` pulling pieces from 4 different piles at once.

`WHIRRR. CLANG. SPARK. WHIRRR.`

*Hour 1:*

Frame.

200 pieces of scrap became bones. Bent pipes for legs. Flattened plates for ribs. Wires as tendons.

It was ugly. 2.5 meters tall. Hunched. Like something that crawled out of the Dump and learned to stand.

`[Warning: Structural Integrity 67%]`

`[Warning: Weight Distribution Unstable]`

Kael welded another support beam. Sweat burned his eyes.

"Hold," he muttered to the metal. "Just hold."

*Hour 2:*

Armor.

He didn’t have time to make it pretty. He made it thick.

Layer after layer of scrap metal bolted over the frame. Every dent, every burn mark from the Dump was left on purpose.

Let them see where he came from.

`[Armor Plating: 80% Complete]`

`[Mental Load: 89%]`

His vision blurred. Blood dripped from his nose again.

He wiped it on his sleeve and kept working.

*Hour 3:*

The Core.

He placed the `Beast Fang` in the center of the chest cavity.

Then the 4 `Mana Core Shards`. One in each limb.

The `Mana Shard` from Ren went in the heart.

The moment he connected the last wire, the entire workshop went dark.

`...`

Then the shards pulsed.

`THUMP. THUMP.`

Like a heartbeat.

`[Mana Core: ONLINE]`

`[Beast Core: SYNCHRONIZING... 10%...]`

`[Warning: Core Rejection Risk: 42%]`

Kael’s hands were shaking.

If this failed, he had nothing. No golem. No tournament team. No 30 days.

"Don’t you dare reject me," he whispered. "Not after all this trash."

He slammed his real hand on the chest plate.

"WORK!"

`THUMP.`

`THUMP.`

`THUMP.`

`[Core Synchronization: 100%]`

`[Trash Golem - Grade C: STANDBY]`

Nothing moved.

Kael stared. Exhausted.

"Come on..."

`CLICK.`

The golem’s head tilted.

Two holes where eyes should be flickered with faint blue light.

`[System Notification]`

`[CREATION COMPLETE: [Trash Golem - Grade C]]`

`[Abilities Unlocked: [Scrap Absorption], [Heavy Stomp], [Debris Shield]]`

`[Loyalty: Bound to Kael Vance]`

Kael fell to his knees and laughed.

It was broken. It was exhausted. But it was real.

"Hello," he said to it. "You’re ugly as hell."

The golem didn’t answer. It just stood there. 2.5 meters of scrap and hate.

`KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.`

Sharp. 0700. Right on time.

The door opened.

Lira.

And behind her, Ren with two bags of food.

Both of them stopped.

Lira’s eyes went wide. Just for a second.

Ren dropped one of the bags.

"...What the hell is that?" Ren whispered.

The golem turned its head. The blue eyes fixed on Ren.

`[Hostility Detected: Ren Ashford]`

`[Threat Assessment: Low]`

"Stand down," Kael said, voice hoarse.

The golem relaxed.

Lira walked in slowly. She circled it once. Twice.

She knocked on the leg armor. Solid.

She looked at the welds. Messy, but strong.

Then she looked at Kael.

Soot on his face. Dark circles under his eyes. Bleeding from his nose. But standing.

"You built this," she said. It wasn’t a question.

"In 6 hours," Kael nodded. "With trash."

Ren picked his jaw up off the floor. "Okay. Okay. The Academy is so screwed."

He walked around the golem, grinning. "Can it fight?"

Kael shrugged. "Only one way to find out."

_Field Test: 0715_

`Academy Waste Disposal Pit. Off Limits.`

No one would see them here.

Just a 10-meter pit filled with the Academy’s garbage. Perfect.

Kael stood at the edge. The golem stood behind him.

"Show me," Kael said.

The golem didn’t move.

Kael frowned. "Scrap Absorption."

`WHOOOSH.`

The golem’s chest opened. A magnetic field erupted.

Every piece of metal within 15 meters flew into it.

Bolts. Pipes. Broken tools. Even a discarded sword.

It all fused to its armor, making it bigger. Meaner.

`[Trash Golem: +15% Mass]`

`[Armor Increased]`

Ren whistled. "That’s cheating and I love it."

"Heavy Stomp," Kael commanded.

The golem raised one massive leg and brought it down.

`BOOM.`

The ground shook. A crater 3 meters wide appeared.

`[Damage Output: C-Rank+]`

Lira crossed her arms. But she was nodding. "It’s slow. But if it hits, it ends the fight."

"Last one," Kael said. "Debris Shield."

Three training dummies were thrown from the edge by Ren.

The golem raised its arms. The scrap on its body detached and flew out, forming a rotating wall of metal.

`TINK TINK TINK.`

All three dummies were shredded mid-air.

The shield reassembled on its body.

Silence.

Then Ren started clapping. "Bravo! Encore! The Trash King has his monster!"

Lira walked up to Kael.

"You did good," she said quietly.

"But it’s not enough."

Kael looked at her. "What do you mean?"

"The tournament is in 13 days," Lira said. "There are B-Rank teams. A-Rank instructors watching. And teams that have been training together for years."

She gestured to the golem. "This is good. But one good punch won’t win us 3 rounds."

Ren nodded. "She’s right. We need synergy. Teamwork."

He pointed at himself. "I hit hard."

Pointed at Lira. "She’s precise."

Pointed at Kael. "And you... you make monsters."

Kael looked at the golem. Then at his team.

For the first time since entering the Academy, he didn’t feel alone.

"Then we train," he said. "Every day. Until the tournament."

_Day 1 to Day 7: Hell Week_

They didn’t sleep.

0500: Training with Lira. Spear vs Scrap.

0800: Classes. Kael slept through Theory. Woke up for Crafting.

1400: Team drills with Ren. Learning to fight together.

2000: Kael in the workshop. Upgrading the golem.

The golem got a name on Day 3.

Ren called it "Junkyard."

Kael hated it.

Lira called it "Unit C-01."

Kael called it "Scrap."

`[Trash Golem - Grade C "Scrap"]`

Every day it got stronger.

`[Scrap Absorption Lv.2]`

`[Heavy Stomp -> Crater Maker]`

`[New Ability: [Magnetic Pulse] - Disrupts enemy weapons]`

Kael also changed.

His body got leaner. Harder. The exhaustion never left, but he learned to fight through it.

`[Title Progress: [Scrap Artisan] 18% -> 31%]`

`[New Skill: [Combat Crafting] - Can repair Scrap mid-fight]`

Lira stopped calling him "Dump Rat."

Now it was just "Kael."

Sometimes, when no one was watching, "Artisan."

Ren stopped mocking him.

Now he was teaching Kael how to throw a punch that didn’t break his own arm.

On Day 7, Instructor Garrick came to Workshop 2-B.

He looked at Scrap. He looked at the sorted materials. He looked at Kael.

"You’re still here," Garrick said.

"Yes sir," Kael answered.

Garrick grunted. "Tournament list came out. Your team is seeded last."

He tossed a paper on the table.

`TEAM 47: [Lira Veyra - B-Rank]`

`[Ren Ashford - D-Rank]`

`[Kael Vance - C-Rank - ’The Trash Artisan’]`

`Odds of Winning Round 1: 3%`

"Good," Kael said.

Garrick almost smiled. "Don’t die."

_Day 10: The Problem_

They had a problem.

Mana.

Scrap was powerful, but it was a mana hog.

After 10 minutes of fighting, it would shut down.

`[Mana Reserve: 8%]`

`[Estimated Battle Time: 7 Minutes]`

"We need more cores," Ren said. "Or a better battery."

"Academy won’t give us any," Lira said. "Not to Team 47."

Kael was quiet. Staring at Scrap.

Then he looked at his own arm.

`[Auto-Scrap Arm Lv.2]`

`[Mana Efficiency: 22%]`

An idea. A stupid idea.

"What if," Kael said slowly, "I connect myself to it?"

Lira frowned. "What?"

"A direct link," Kael explained. "My Trash Core to its Core. I feed it mana. It fights for me. Like... an extension."

"That’s suicide," Ren said. "You’ll burn out."

"Maybe," Kael said. "Or maybe I won’t."

Lira stared at him for a long time.

Then she sighed. "If you die, I’m killing you."

They worked all night.

Cables. Wires. A direct port drilled into Scrap’s back.

Kael modified his own arm to have a connector.

`[WARNING: DANGEROUS PROCEDURE]`

`[Risk of Mana Feedback: 78%]`

`[Risk of Death: 34%]`

At 0400, it was done.

Kael plugged the cable into his arm.

`ZAP.`

Pain shot through his entire body.

`[Mana Link: ESTABLISHED]`

`[Mana Flow: 12%/sec to Scrap]`

Scrap’s eyes flared bright blue.

It raised its arm in sync with Kael.

When Kael moved, Scrap moved.

When Kael punched, Scrap punched.

`[Synchronization Rate: 41%]`

"Again," Kael said, gritting his teeth.

By 0600, it was at 67%.

He could feel Scrap. Like a second body.

Heavy. Strong. Angry.

Lira watched the whole time. She didn’t say anything.

But when Kael finally unplugged and collapsed, she caught him.

"Idiot," she whispered.

"Did it work?" Kael asked, barely conscious.

Ren answered, holding up a cracked training dummy.

"Yeah, trash boy. It worked."

_Day 13: Eve of Tournament_

The Academy was buzzing.

Banners. Crowds. Betting.

Every student talking about the tournament.

And every single one of them talking about Team 47.

"The freak team."

"The Trash Artisan and his monster."

"3% odds."

Kael didn’t care.

He was in Workshop 2-B. Alone.

Polishing Scrap’s armor with an old rag.

`[Final Preparations: Complete]`

`[Team Status: Ready]`

`[Mental Load: 71%]`

`[Mana: 100%]`

The door opened.

Lira. In full combat gear. Spear on her back.

Ren. Behind her, bouncing on his heels, way too energetic.

"You ready?" Ren asked.

Kael stood up. Put on his worn jacket.

The `C-Rank` badge glinted on his chest.

His metal arm `whirred`.

Scrap stood behind him. 2.8 meters now. Covered in extra armor.

Silent. Waiting.

Kael looked at his team.

Lira: Cold, precise, the spear.

Ren: Loud, reckless, the hammer.

And him: The trash. The crafter. The heart.

"Yeah," Kael said. "I’m ready."

They walked out together.

The hallway was packed.

Students moved aside as they passed.

Whispers followed them.

"That’s him."

"That’s the golem."

"They’re gonna die in round 1."

Kael heard every word.

And he smiled.

They reached the main arena.

50,000 seats. Full.

Cheering. Booing. Betting.

At the center was a massive circular platform.

And on the other side, their first opponents.

Team 12.

All B-Rank.

All in matching armor.

All laughing.

The leader, a guy with a golden sword, pointed at Kael.

"Is that the trash? Bring your monster. We want to melt it for scrap."

The crowd roared.

Lira stepped forward.

Ren cracked his knuckles.

Kael rolled his shoulders. The cable to Scrap pulsed once.

`[ANNOUNCER VOICE]`

`[WELCOME TO THE ACADEMY TOURNAMENT!]`

`[ROUND 1: TEAM 47 VS TEAM 12!]`

`[BEGIN!]`

The barrier dropped.

Team 12 charged.

Kael didn’t move.

He just closed his eyes and reached out through the cable.

He felt Scrap.

Felt its weight. Its anger. Its hunger for scrap.

He opened his eyes. They were glowing faint blue.

"Scrap," Kael whispered. "Let’s show them."

`BOOM.`

Scrap charged.

The ground shook.

The Academy went silent.

For the first time, they weren’t laughing.
