Lesson 44: Survival

Early morning of May 9.

Twenty Morton defensemen headed to Rattley Village with dawn to protect Ray Arklight. Estelle Binisti, a healer who voluntarily wished to participate, also accompanied them.

Estelle was contacted by Bert Fletcher, who joined the seconded member, who showed Ray and Ashley who wanted to join her. He welcomed the accompaniment of a well-armed healer, considering his engagement with rogues who also did not know how many defensemen there were.

Everyone arrives in Rattley village in an hour from dawn to travel by ride. Immediately with the guidance of the fisherman's coder, the march begins towards the southwestern shore of Lake Drameny.

The defense team found multiple footprints in the forest west of the lake.

According to the coder in the guide, he didn't go through here yesterday, which seemed likely to be the raiders.

The defense decided to hurry ahead, leaving the village and arriving at the place where they set the trap in about an hour and a half.

From there, trees are knocked down towards the lake, and traces of a large demon crawling continue.

They follow the trail and discover the green mighty snake-like demon, the body of the green snake dragon Green Serpent.

Next to Snake Dragon's body was a strange swordsman's body, and as he approached to examine it, he heard a groan.

The Lord of his voice belonged to a swordsman who had his arm slashed off, sitting to be brought to the body of a serpentine dragon. He also discovered an archer with a serious injury to his shoulder.

When I let them spit out the circumstances, they hear that Cylon and the two archers are after the Rays.

The hurried defense team finds footprints and heads toward those who think the Rays have made their way. One hears people's voices and says, "My voice!" and caution.

And when they all cleared their ears, they heard voices from behind the woods.

That was a sad scream of a young man crying.

The defense proceeded with caution and went into the woods.

I lowered the bow that stood forward and found one archer trying to escape.

"Drop the bow! Resist and we'll attack!

When the commander, the knight, yelled so, the archer threw the bow away as he had given up.

Estelle felt like she was coming together at a point where the power of the Spirit was.

(Can I help you? Water, trees, and the Spirit of Light? Those spirits are getting together somewhere... I've never seen anything like this before...)

When Estelle thinks that, she sees a chunk of golden light in front of her, and soon a bright white dazzling flash covers them.

A defensive knight says, "What?" He raised his surprise and alerted his surroundings, but Estelle's eyes saw two men and women hugging each other.

"There's people over there! Ray! Ashley!

Estelle runs out towards the two of them.

Ahead of her arrival, she held Ashley hard, Ray's appearance.

There was a soft grin on their faces and a serene expression in contrast to after the intense fighting around them.

"Ray! Ashley!

(Ashley is just losing her mind. Ray isn't hurt either...... this is it! It's dangerous! What did you do to this girl...)

Estelle tells the defense that Ray is in dangerous condition.

She forces Ray to take the magic restorative pills she had and hangs more healing magic.

But the power of the Spirit is hard to muster.

(No Spirit? Could that be the cause of that earlier? We need to get him somewhere else quickly and hang the cure...)

Estelle will explain to the commander that healing magic cannot be used in this location, so he needs to be moved to another location as soon as possible.

Bart, who was listening beside him, immediately assembled the stretcher and by the end of her story, had already put the lay on.

That's when Ashley's consciousness returned.

"What is this place? Wasn't I supposed to be dead?...... hmm? Ray, Ray is! Ray!"

Estelle speaks gently to Ashley, who is about to panic.

"He's safe. So far... but it's dangerous. I think I used magic beyond my limits..."

Ashley didn't know exactly what had happened. But at least I was supposed to be seriously wounded dying, and I only understood that Ray, who was out of magic, had helped me with that.

As the defense team searches the perimeter, they find Zambrotta Azaro, bishop of the Light Divinity, who was seriously injured by Theron Greaves' body and dying.

The commander left the body outside of Theron unattended and immediately brought out the survivors.

On the move, Estelle realizes that the power of the Spirit has begun to return and hangs a healing magic on Ray.

Though he didn't return to consciousness, he seemed to breathe a little easier and his blood color was just a little better.

Moreover, healing magic was hanging on Azaro, who took his life.

Returning to Rattley Village, the Commander's Knight runs the early horse of the report to the Baron.

He began interrogating more surviving raiders, the Jethroes.

After about an hour of interrogation, he heard that there was a mafia leader known as his "sister," and pursued further information such as a safe house.

After returning to the village, after one o'clock in the afternoon three hours later, several carriages arrived from Morton, half returned to the city of Morton and half were to carry out the disposal of the bodies with the villagers of Rattley village.

Returning to the city of Morton, Ray had been put to sleep at Estelle's clinic.

Ashley was worried about Ray's condition, which wouldn't wake her up, and she was asking Estelle what had happened to him.

"Maybe I exercised my magic beyond the limits of my magic. You know magic helps spirits by giving them magic."

As Ashley nods, Estelle goes further.

"Normally, the limits of magic are determined by the body on its own. Because magic is what moves your body, your heart, so if you use it any more, it's dangerous. But the magic is still in my body. When you dedicate it all, the Spirit helps you more than usual"

"More than usual?

"Yes, more than usual. I wonder if the Spirit likes such pure magic that he throws his life at it. Seems like a lot of research is going on around here, but I don't really know."

Ashley hears in a trembling voice, "When I run out of that last magic..." but I can't keep asking questions until the end.

"As you can imagine. Normally I would die just like that. It's the same story about a saint or a great man who died after a miracle... I don't know why he lived. But what I felt was that the spirits in the woods and lakes were on their way to him. So, normally, he shouldn't be alive."

Ashley heard the story and buried her face in both hands.

(Ray gave his life to help me... how many times, he saved my life... is not worthy. Pity......)

"But don't worry. He'll be back. This girl is so funny that the Spirit loves her. From here on out, it's my imagination, but it's like the spirits gave him their powers to keep him from dying. I can only see a little bit of the spirits, or colors. When we found him, he was glowing slightly. That's why I thought she'd be helpful."

That's all Estelle said, she left the office.

Left Ashley holds his hand.

(Come back soon, Ray!

I pray wholeheartedly in her ear, a little plundered, but now I hear the voice I most want to hear.

"At times like this, you can wake me up with a beautiful maiden's mouth."

When Ashley opened her eyes, there was him trying to get up laughing.

She turns her hand around his back and mouths in silence.

And after a long, long kiss,

"Again, you're worried. Sorry, Ash."

"I was really worried about you. Really..."

She was burying her face in his chest and leaking a whimper.

As Estelle noticed the voices in the office and went back, she saw Ray holding Ashley in her arms.

(Oh, you're so jealous... I think I'll just leave you two a little more...)

She went back to the back room again.

After a while, Estelle returns to the examination room.

"You look awake. Is your body okay?

Ray lowered his head,

"Thank you. It's a little sloppy, but I don't think there's any particular abnormality. By the way, did Mr. Estelle heal Ash's injury?

"No, you don't remember anything?... you healed it. Beautifully, too. Yes, very pretty. There were no old wounds at all."

"I... really... so what happened to me?

"How far do you remember?

"Sure, I remember trying to kill Azaro, and then, somehow, trying to help Ash, but I'm upside down and I don't remember clearly."

"Yes, you don't remember... if it's okay with my imagination, I can let you hear it up..."

When Ray says it doesn't matter, Estelle also tells him the hypothesis she told Ashley.

"... as a result of using magic beyond its limits... maybe..."

Ray groans so much as he thinks.

"Can you tell me what you did, as far as I can remember"

"Yes, I thought Ash died pierced by a spear of light. But I heard Ash... so I tried to use healing magic, but there was no magic... anyone can help me! I'll give you my soul or my life! That's what I screamed. I don't remember from then..."

"Yes... so you wanted to help her in exchange for your own life... I'm pretty sure that's the hypothesis we talked about earlier"

"Is it still too much magic?

"Yes, I'm asking the Spirit to use magic in exchange for my life too..."

Suddenly, Estelle has a harsh tone.

"Good thing, listen carefully! I didn't die miraculously this time. Promise me you'll never be this impotent again. If Ashley comes back to life and you die... good thing, the spirits will fulfill the wishes of the surgeon, but I don't think it's right or wrong, no, I can't think about it... if this time I was alive, I'll be fine next time. Whatever you think, I'll definitely lose my life next. Okay?"

Ray nodded correctly at his absence.

"If you die, I..."

Ray hears the words and holds Ashley.

"I won't do it again. Because we decided to live together..."

I saw that look. Estelle laughed,

"Do what you say when you're alone. No more! You don't have to show it to me alone. Hehe...... rest here till tomorrow morning. I'm not going in here, so do as you please...... hehe"

The two turned bright red, but regardless, Estelle left the office.

Estelle, who was alone, was thinking about Ray.

(You don't remember... maybe that's better. That was a miracle. Don't count on miracles...)

Early morning of May 10 the following day.

Bert, the defensive squad, was visiting Estelle's clinic to see Ray.

Look at Ray, who was already awake,

"You look good. Yesterday, I only brought you what I know is yours."

He puts Ray's spear, Ashley's dagger, etc. on his desk.

Ray bowed his head and said, "Thank you. It helps," he said thankfully.

"After that, the village chief of Rattley Village went to get some equipment for Snake Dragons and Therons, so we'll get that soon, too. That village chief, he was so uptight, he might even bring it today."

That's all I said, I tried to go home, but look back as if I remembered something.

"Looks like the Bishop of Light God is coming soon. Rumor has it that Fonce is sending me. I know the Baron will do something about it, but he could be a crazy guy like Azaro. For once, you should be careful."

When Bart told him about it, he left the clinic.

(Also, Light Divinity... it's already a dustpan. I wonder if Bassani can do something about it......)

After Estelle's clinic, Ray and Ashley, back in shape, headed to the Adventurer Guild for the Green Snake Dragon "Green Serpent" completion report.

Around eight in the morning and there were still a large number of adventurers left, and the two who did not need to rush were waiting spaces, trying to relax and wait.

But the adventurers who find the two speak out, "Sounds like it's been tough," "You let me blow a bubble in the Light Divinity and my drinks dropped," etc.

In the light, Ashley saw Ray giving the answer,

(Sounds like you've managed to tame it in a month. I wondered what would happen at first......)

Ray, who doesn't seem to like people, was feeling happy, lonely when he saw that he could normally talk to the adventurers.

Since the reception counter is vacant, the crusade completion report shall be made. Remove the Demonic Crystal Stone of the Green Snake Dragon,

"This is a report on the completion of the exorcism of the serpent on Lake Drameny. Please."

Ethel, the receptionist, took a water-colored demonic crystal stone about seven cm in diameter placed in front of him,

"Exactly. I'm not surprised anymore. I hear it's the Green Snake Dragon this time. The purchase price will be discussed with the Branch Manager. Okay, Orb, please."

First, Ashley gives you an orb that fits into your arm.

"Congratulations, Master Ashley. I was raised to the fifth level.

Ashley thanked Ethel and pulled his arm. Ray offers his arm instead.

Ethel gets a slightly nervous face.

(Master Ray doesn't know what it is. Whatever you see, calm down... don't step on these two previous dances...)

Because I used to remember Ray losing his chill when he was in the flying class.

Checking Ray's orb, Ethel is breathtaking.

"Congratulations, Lady Ray... on your ascent to the fifth level..."

Ray bows his head to Ethel, says, "Let me know when you know the price of the Demonic Stone," and stands up.

Ethel replies, "I'm in awe," but inside,

(I've never seen a flying class from 7th to 5th... there's no longer a 4th level in this city, so those two will be the city's finest adventurers. Master Ray climbed up in just one month... and the level went to twenty-five... how far is he really out of standard?

Irrespective of Ethel's thoughts, Ray and Ashley were behind the guild.

May 9.

Morton's lord, Baron Bruno Atley, was listening to Ray Arklight's search party commander's report and turning his mind around.

(The Mafias will have already escaped. There was definitely something besides Azaro that requested Ray's assassination. There's a chance it's Cylon, but the survival story said he joined in a hurry, too, so there should be something else. Is it something that profits from making Ray a deceased... Theron, not Azaro... I don't know. We just have to thoroughly examine whoever was in and out of Kara's shop...)

I immediately called the knight under my command and ordered an interview.
