Lesson Six: Inheritance

Loris Deoddard left the world on May 22, 2025, Tria calendar.

I only dated for about ten days, leaving Ray and Ashley with a great sense of loss.

Morkley, head of the Deoddard Chamber of Commerce Cloik branch, was starting to move as soon as she confirmed Deoddard's death.

There was no expression on his face, just seemed to be moving clerically, Ray thought.

"Master Ray, Master Ashley. The eldest husband is dead, so I'll deliver it to the bureau. Please watch Mr. Stella. Mr. Stella, do you remember the story of your eldest husband?

A grumpy stellar nods small at the words.

"Now, Master Ray, please listen to Master Ashley and wait here"

That being said, Morkley left the room.

Ray and Stella remain stunned, sitting.

Ashley leaves the two of them to head to the front desk and explain to the innkeeper that Deodard is dead. And he explained that people would come from the bureau, that the Deodard Chamber of Commerce would make funeral arrangements, etc.

(Ray seems to be enjoying quite a bit. I guess I've never lost anyone close to me......)

She was not as grieving captured as Ray because she was a mercenary and had herself in a world where those close to her suddenly disappeared.

Of course she also had a great sense of loss, but she was thinking about what she was going to have to do, replacing Ray, who was unlikely to be able to move, and actively moving.

(In the morning the official comes to confirm the death. The circumstances will be heard and there will be confirmation of the orb. Since Lord Morkley is here, there is probably no doubt about it, but it should be checked for possession. After that, a funeral. From here you can leave it to Lord Morkley. I devote myself to the response of officials. Not to hurt Ray any more......)

Ray was bewildered by an unspeakable sense of loss.

(Says there's a hole in my chest, but it's true... I can't believe we've only been together for ten days... I can't talk anymore, it's like a lie...)

He was aware that his grandparents were alive and well and had never lost anyone close to him before.

(Speaking of which, I've never been to a close person's funeral. He did attend the funeral of his neighbor's grandfather, as well as the funeral of a remote relative. But it wasn't real. My neighbor's grandfather had repeated hospitalizations and discharges, so I never really met him, and he's a person who barely knows any remote relatives...)

And think about what's going to happen, and be stunned.

(If you're going to live as an adventurer, a mercenary, you're going to see your friends and companions die. Maybe Ash's... No, I don't want to think about it. But... can I stand it? To the death of man, to goodbye......)

And I was watching Stella lying next to me.

Stella left her gaze fixed on Deoddard's body, barely in motion.

Occasionally, her ears trembled in small pieces, but his eyes did not know what it meant.

(I wonder what Mr. Stella is thinking now? With Mr. Deoddard gone, what do you think? Is it immediately acceptable because death has been educated as a matter of course? But I couldn't kill your brother. So maybe it's not accepted......)

"Stella, what are you thinking right now?

Stella didn't react immediately. If you ask the same question again, turn your face to Ray,

"I was thinking about my husband"

"Yes, about Mr. Deoddard... what are we going to do now?

"I don't know. What should I do?

Stella's face, directed at her, remained as faceless as ever, but for some reason, to Ray, she seemed to be in grief.

(Someone I've been with for two years has died. You must be sad...... if you can put your emotions straight, it might be a little easier, but I guess you can't do that......)

"Mr. Deoddard hasn't told you anything?

"My husband tells me... to find what I want to do... to live for myself... what is what I want to do? What does it mean to live for yourself? ……

Stella didn't even ask Ray, she was squeaking like that all by herself.

"Mr. Stella was traveling with Mr. Deodard and had fun? Did you enjoy talking to Mr. Deoddard?

To Ray's question, Stella gave him a bewildered look,

"... I don't know. What do you mean, fun?

Ray is questioned the other way around and whines, "What do you mean, fun... that's hard..." and thinks.

"Didn't you feel any different when you were with Mr. Deoddard than when you were with someone else? Does it feel any different when you can talk to Mr. Deoddard than when you can talk to someone else?

Stella was quietly meditating her eyes and trying to remember something.

"I don't know. But...... I feel like something different...... does that mean it's fun?

"What do you think? I'm not sure. [M] I had fun with Ash, and I thought it would be fun when I went around town with Stella. I enjoy drinking with other friends and making noise with them... maybe I should feel it from there."

Stella's expression is that she still doesn't know, but then she never heard anything.

Ashley came back to the room after explaining to the innkeeper.

Ray and Stella sat beside Deoddard's bed and looked like they were sinking in.

(In the meantime, let's give them both a break. Ray in particular should be using quite a bit of magic. Lord Stella is also looking after Lord Deodard and will be tired)

"I'm awake. You two get some rest."

Ray just tried to say, "I haven't..."

"You're using a lot of magic. Tomorrow, no, it's already today, there's a lot to be done today. We're not fighting, but we should leave it in full swing, rather than in a state of diminished judgment."

Ray felt how concerned he was with Ashley's words and honestly said, "Okay. I'll lie down," he says, walking over to his bed.

Ashley doesn't want to move. To Stella,

"Sleep, Lord Stella. Lord Morkley would have told you to listen to me or Ray."

Stella slowly rose to the word.

Her tail, usually stretched forcefully, seemed to drool only in her heart, but she headed for the bed with a firmer foothold than she thought.

Ashley relieves herself just a little of the way it is. And I was thinking about what was to come.

(You can't leave Lord Stella alone. At least Ray won't be able to. Probably the three of us will be traveling...... corner, I thought I could spend some time alone with Ray...... that's also with the ladies......)

When that idea comes to mind, I feel like I'm mocking myself.

(I'm a woman, too. Seeing that look makes me want to monopolize Ray, even though I don't think I can throw it away. But can you break it off as a companion, Ray...)

Ashley sat on the couch in the living room and was thinking about what was to come.

At night, Ray and Stella wake up.

Ray seemed to sleep right out of tiredness and was getting a few hours of sleep.

(I could sleep better than I thought, so I'm hardly tired. But Ash wasn't asleep. You did something wrong......)

"Morning, Ash. Sorry, I was going to wake up on the way..."

Ashley didn't even look particularly tired, "um, good morning," after a stretch.

"Don't worry about me. I work out differently. Did you sleep better than that? Did you get tired?

"Oh, I slept well. Thanks."

Then, after receiving condolences from the innkeepers and breakfast, Croick's officials came into the room with Morkley.

"I'm here to confirm the death of Mr. Loris Deodard. I'm sure you're here with mercenaries hired as escorts, Ashley Markat and Ray Arklight, the slave Stella."

When Ashley answers "no doubt" on behalf of the

"The Morkley Branch Manager at the Deoddard Chamber of Commerce asked me to confirm Mr. Deoddard's will. Just in case, let me examine Mr. Deoddard's possessions."

Ray didn't make sense, but he saw Ashley snort and didn't say anything in particular.

(I wonder what that means? You want me to check the possessions of the deceased?

After confirming Deoddard's death, the official examines the possessions as he looks at the will.

After about twenty minutes the confirmation was completed,

"Confirmation of possessions is over. I have everything as per my will. All you have to do is let me check the orbs of the two mercenaries. We're headed to the mercenary guild, but it's no problem."

Ashley nods and urges Ray to come with her.

"Go to the guild and have the orb confirmed. To make sure we didn't break our contract, that is, murder Lord Deoddard. Don't worry, this is the usual procedure when the client dies en route."

Ray was finally convinced.

(Confirmation of possessions was a confirmation that we did not steal them. Same goes for the orb confirmation. I don't know about your office work, but I don't feel comfortable being suspicious...)

Ray follows the official with a flashy look.

Morkley stayed in the room and instructed his men to handle the funeral and notify the commercial guild.

The stellar left was sitting in a chair and watching the sight.

The Rays had entered the Mercenary Guild of Cloik and received immediate confirmation from the Branch Manager.

"Show me the orb. First, Ashley Markat."

Nothing happened, the orb was returned to Ashley and it was Ray's turn next.

"Ray Arklight is next. Orb."

Ray hands over the orb and waits for the result with a tense face.

(How can you be thrilled if you haven't done anything wrong? You don't get weird results)

Soon the orb was returned, the branch manager told officials, "Neither of us has broken a contract. It has nothing to do with the death of the customer," he says.

The official nodded and asked the two of them to accompany him to the bureau after saying a word "labored".

I don't know why, they looked at each other,

"What do you mean? Weren't we proven irrelevant to Lord Deoddard's death?"

"You're not listening to me? You are left with Mr. Deodard's will. We need to make sure you accept the will."

Ray hears that we have a will to check in the bureau, and he says, "Is it to us?" He was inquiring.

The official nods and immediately starts walking.

They walk after the officials, but they were tilting their necks wondering what it meant.

"Maybe you don't mean Mr. Stella's pattern? Like the transfer of ownership of slaves..."

"Maybe so," Ashley nodded as well.

As soon as we get to the bureau, there will be a will confirmation.

"This is the contents of Mr. Loris Deoddard's will."

After the officials did that, they handed the two of them two wills.

There,

"Lord Ray Arklight, Lord Ashley Markat

I, Loris Deoddard, hereinafter, hereby grant to both Mr. and Mrs. the right of inheritance of the following properties:

One, cash I own as travel funds. provided, however, that the amount after deduction of funeral, other expenses

"Lord Ray Arklight.

I, Loris Deodard, hereby grant Mr. Ray Arklight the right to inherit the following property:

The two people who read the will assumed about Stella, but it contained stories about travel funds and so on, and they were surprised.

"In short, I say accept or no to the inheritance of the slave Stella. So, what do we do?

To the words of the official Ray asks Ashley for help.

"Ash, what do we do?

"I don't care... what happens if you don't take it?

"The slave Stella will be bequeathed to Mr. Dunstan Morkley and will be received by the son of Mr. Deoddard, the original heir, for cash and other"

Ray was thinking as he listened to the officials. I was wondering if Morkley deserved more than we deserved under ourselves.

"You can do what you want. I support any decision."

He was even more troubled by Ashley's words.

(As for taking Mr. Stella, you're going to be traveling with the three of us. It's easier for both of us to feel alone, and I guess that's better... but that's no reason to say no after I hear that talk. Because we want to have fun... Ash says oh, but is it really okay for us to be three?

And an idea came to my mind.

(That's right! You can take it from me and release it. [M] Save the money for Stella, too, and give it to her when she becomes independent... future heist, not with you. We'll just be together until then, until she can live alone. Let's do that)

And I'm going to tell Ashley what I think.

Ashley listened in silence to the end, and nodded, saying a word "ok".

"I will take it all. How should the procedure be?

After that, I sign various documents.

I just finished signing all the paperwork and a smile appeared on the official's face.

"In my country, the transfer of ownership of slaves is represented by a commercial guild. This paperwork, along with the slaves, go through the commercial guild, and it's all done. I made you feel bad today, I'm sorry. Role patterns This is the kind of response I really get. Tell Lord Morkley that too."

The two of them were leaving the bureau, talking about what was to come, heading for the inn.

"In the meantime, I picked it up, but all of a sudden the journey's tough. Don't you have a good idea for Ash?

"Right... you can even go to my parents' house with Fonce... if Lord Stella becomes a mercenary, you can have company. My father (the captain) will take care of me, and I wonder if we should see it through before we travel together."

Ray nods at the story,

(I knew I had to go to Ash's parents' house... they threatened me scattered, so it was so hard to go...)
