Episode Seventy-Eight: The Arklite Report

To compile his report to the Knights, Ray was on his way to his desk the morning after his return, Oct. 19.

(You've been studying for exams. I can't believe I'm going to my desk in the morning. Well, I wonder what kind of report it will be)

He was writing a novel, but wasn't very good at the kind of report.

I just learned my thesis for exams and had little knowledge of reports like this one.

(Write whatever you can think of...)

Next to him was Ashley, with Stella holding back behind him.

When he sums it up in a sentence somewhat in his head, he asks the two of them for their opinions.

Then start writing a report that references the two opinions.

"... Threatening the manipulator (Tamer) is effective in the fight against the Demons, especially the Ghosts. In the case of the Middle-Ghost tribe, nearly two thousand oaks were manipulated by Tamer, who was thought to be able to serve a large number of oaks and also a few or about five in this Battle of Millis Valley.

It is unclear by what means their orders will be communicated. However, if you are more than five hundred m away, it is likely that you will not be able to give detailed instructions. In fact, monotony was noticeable in stone-throwing attacks from the morning of the third day.

From this I consider it important to crush Tamer, the enemy's “head," regardless of defeating the oak, in the race against ghosts. The Middle-Ghost tribe is characterized by… '

Furthermore, the report will refer to the Winged Demons.

"... for the Winged Demon Lesser Demon, its ability to fly is excellent and capable of flying at speeds that outweigh the horse's all-powerful disease.

You can also manipulate dark attribute magic for magic, the activation time of which is presumably slightly inferior to that of a court magician in the kingdom.

As for the magical power, I don't think it's that much of a threat. However, when considered in conjunction with its mobility, it should be seen as an indignity to a few, such as backward agitation, the assassination of dignitaries, etc.

As for the little devil Imp, only his ability to fly is a threat. As for magic, it seems good to think of it as the same as an apprentice magician. Their unleashed arrows of darkness can easily be prevented by shields, and there are few problems if dealt with calmly.

However, if the enemy is attacked while riding in an ambush or something, the enemy may come after the horse. Being attacked by a horse will cause confusion on your side, so you will need to either distance yourself once or lower your horse to respond.

For dealing with wing demons and small demons, ranged attacks by bows and the like are effective. In particular, sniping by the crossbow Crossbow seems highly effective… '

Finally, for reference, we will add a reflection on the strategy of the Demonic Nation.

'... the purpose of the demonic army that invaded Fort Chulock remains unclear. However, as far as their tactics are concerned, I get the impression that they are different from our strategic aim of taking land, obtaining wealth.

To that evidence, they were obsessed with Fort Chulock, even though they were able to invade west of the village of Millis early. It may indeed have the purpose of ensuring rear security, but even though Fort Chulock was surrounded by large armies, what did not fall to the end seemed to be their deliberate attempt to prolong the battle and their lack of active will to get the fort.

Also, treating oaks as if they were consumables raises questions about the consistency of their strategy. Not only was there just poor inter-tribal cooperation, but even the Middle-Ghost tribe in service of the Orcs had no hesitation in the act of crushing their warpower.

In order to identify their strategies and tactics, it is necessary to investigate how the oaks' food was being replenished, including in the first place whether the orcs at the service of the Demons need food.

Further, if the Demons think it's okay to drain the orcs, there could be a supply base somewhere. It's like a magic formation previously discovered in the northeast of Turok, if you think you can summon it, find that magic formation, and, if you don't destroy it, the final victory seems difficult...... '

He writes up several reports and shows them to Ashley.

She began reading the report and her expression gradually darkened.

"Is the last descent true? If we can keep summoning the orcs, we won't win. It's winter now. Especially in the eastern mountainous areas. Outdoor combat should be pretty tough."

Ray raises his hands to the question and looks like he's in trouble.

"It's not always my prediction, and I don't even know what the Demons are going to invade for in the first place, or, on the contrary, how many Demons there are and what they can do. Perhaps the Knights know. He said we have to settle before winter."

When he later compiles a report called the "Arklite Report," he shows it to the captains to hear Hamish and the others.

The captains, including Hamish, were surprised at the level of completion of that report.

"You're still a great guy. Never before has the battle against the Demons been so closely put together. Ray, when are you going to take this to the Knights?

"I'm thinking about going tomorrow, too?

Hamish told Gareth Ayling, captain of the squad most,

"Gareth, let someone make a copy of this to someone who can write a letter. Take that to Duke."

And towards Ray,

"I'll accompany you. I'd like to give it directly to Lord Braveburn, if possible."

Ray leaned his neck towards Hamish with a serious expression,

"... ok. But can you suddenly go and meet the Duke?

Ray had a good impression on Lord Braveburn, but he also didn't want to engage with the nobles any more, which makes him look slightly stiff.

"I'll take care of that there. Explain it to His Excellency directly from your mouth. I'm sorry I seem to get into trouble, but it's a national matter. Enjoy it."

Ray nodded like he'd given up, put the report down, and went back to his room.

the morning of October 20th the following day.

A messenger from Lord Braveburn visited Hamish and others before they left the mercenary regiment headquarters.

The messenger told Lord Braveburn that he wanted to see him, and that Hamish was also going to head to the Royal Palace as it were.

Upon entering the royal palace, they are immediately put through to the Duke's office.

"Thank you for your hard work this time. It's a hint of a reward for that. I just wanted to tell you that."

Hamish looked somewhat surprised, "Is that an inside notice?" I ask.

"That's right. Your Majesty said he would describe you to the Baron. What do you say we take it?

Ray is surprised and opens his eyes. And I was staring at Hamish sitting next to me.

(Mr. Hamish is noble...)

Hamish understands the Duke's intentions and laughs bitterly.

"Don't you already think I won't take it? As you can guess, I will decline this story."

"Okay. I will tell His Majesty that."

Ray sees that interaction and realizes that neither does the Duke intend Hamish to receive it, and he struck his hand before it became an official circular.

(I see. The Duke knew, so you did this. that Mr. Hamish would say no)

The Duke casually changes the subject.

"So, take me to Arklight today, it looks like I have another errand to run?

"Yes. Take a look at this first. This is a report prepared at the request of the Knights."

"Well, that's serious. I'm glad to hear it verbally."

The Duke smiles, saying so, and begins to read Ray's report.

Just as Hamish and the others read, his expression gradually hardens.

"Arklight, no, Ray. Did you put this together?

Ray is called by the Duke by his first name and confused.

"Uh, yes, it is..."

"Let me ask you a few questions. What do you think the strategic purpose is, if I borrow your word?

"I don't know. At least I'm pretty sure it wasn't aimed at the land of the Kingdom of Lax."

The Duke nods lightly, and then raises more questions about the doubts.

"It says here, too, that even though you didn't aim for the land, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't have ambitions in the kingdom's territory, does it?

"I'm sure you're right...... at least I don't think you want it around Chulock. Maybe it's a positive move aimed at another land, but I don't know the enemy's values, so I'll answer you..."

When the Duke nods like a samurai, he immediately switches to the next question.

"Okay. Next. Poor collaboration between demons, but any thoughts on that?

"This surprise attack on the advance party, the battle in Millis Valley, all of them medium ghost subjects, no, only medium ghost people were in the fight. At the time of the ambush, the Winged Demons were behind it, but they can only obey five Winged Demons and do not lead the Little Demons. If you had ambushed all around you, you could have laid the little devil down in the woods and destroyed the escaping advance party. A little with a Winged Demon woman, but we exchanged words. What I felt was that it was moving with personal resentment."

The Duke raised his right eyebrow and said, "Personal grudge?," he murmurs.

Ray nodded at the grunt,

"Probably against me knocking down the Auga, but I didn't want to find out more"

"I see. They want us to find out what the oak food is, but they're supposed to eat anything, whether it's people or demons, but do we still need to investigate?

Ray is also what I was most concerned about, and with a glance, I'm going to talk to him.

"Yes. There are too many Orcs in the service of the Demons. If you're close to three thousand oaks, the food will be in considerable quantities. I don't know how much you need per day, but at least you should need more food than we do. Even if we hit the stockpile of private houses in the village of Chulock, a small village of only two hundred people. You'll run out of bottoms soon. Yet there was no starvation, and there was no way to eat the body of this soldier. I was wondering if maybe the summoned orcs don't need food"

The Duke put his hand on his chin, and after roaring "um,"

"You've never seen it from that perspective before. I certainly don't hear about them taking heavy squads, etc. All of a sudden, he just showed up in the big army and ravaged it. I remember there was rape but I have never heard of food grabbing..."

"I fought for three days, too, and I was wondering. If it's nearly two thousand, more than a hundred troops should move to carry food. And that's not the kind of move I was able to grasp."

"Okay. Let Viktor on the front line look into this. Let me just ask you one last thing. They want us to crush enemy strongholds, but do they really have strongholds?

Ray smiled bitterly, "I don't know that," after

"I thought there was a base because I saw how the enemy fought. Maybe not. If our enemies don't run away from us and attack us even more, you know what I mean? I have no idea how much prep time you need, but you can squash all that great power at all costs. I thought it would be more natural to think it could be replenished relatively easily."

The Duke meditated his eyes and thought before

"Hamish, I know exactly what you meant when you brought Ray in. Right away, but let's send this to Victor. If you look at Seaver, the vice president, Baron Seaver Gladstone, you might come up with something more."

As Hamish stands up to exit,

"Why don't you leave this man with me? I don't know what to tell you, but it's a shame to keep you a mercenary. Whatever, you can adopt him around the Count's house somewhere. What do you say?"

Before Hamish answers, Ray starts answering.

"I would greatly appreciate it if His Excellency could appreciate that much. But I'm going on a journey soon. I can't take that story."

The Duke hears that Ray leaves the King's Capital and floats his hips.

"He said it was a journey! Hamish, will you let this man go in this situation? This isn't sanity!

In contrast, Hamish replied quietly, "Because of what this man has decided".

"I walk away from this kingdom of Lax to protect myself and Captain Markat. I was wondering if your Excellency would understand..."

The Duke is surprised by the words, but soon convinced.

"It could be a good decision. There will be a wave around the disposition of Arwell Kilgaroho in the near future, but perhaps that disposition. I don't expect the Kilgaroho family to go into direct action, but we might as well leave King's Capital."

The two are interested in what disposition will be given, but the Duke didn't say anything.

When the Duke heads to the desk, he begins to acknowledge (approve) a single letter.

"This request has been confirmed. Take it but good. So many reports. I've got the colors on."

When the Duke laughs niggardly, he gives the writ to Ray.

The two left the Duke's office and returned to mercenary regiment headquarters.

(Apparently, it's starting to smell really bad. Looks like we should leave the day after tomorrow or so. When we get back, talk to Ash and Stella)

Hamish looks at Ray and realizes he's thinking of leaving.

"Sounds like you should leave early. When are you gonna get out?

"When I get home, I'll talk to the Ashes, but I'd like to leave the day after tomorrow. Because when we talk about the Duke, it's going to stink."

"Right. I like that. Don't worry about us. I'm not letting the Mercenaries (Red Arms) get their hands on me. Well, Lord Braveburn is the back shield. Lord Kilgaroho can't handle the detours."

Ray nods, "Right," but the atmosphere was about to darken, so change the subject.

"By the way, lately, you often say" Red Arms, "don't you? I heard you never used to say that."

Hamish had a slightly shy laugh,

"Don't tease me. If the dead guys were proud of their name, I feel bad for them for not using it. Well, even now, when I say it myself, I get bored."

Hamish says so with a laugh, slapping Ray on the shoulder.

I'll call you "White Master."

"What! No, that's a little..."

"What do you think, you know how I feel a little?

The two laughed and walked inside the city of Fonce.

October 20th, 11am.

When Lord Braveburn had him prepare a copy of the report he had received from Ray, he immediately sent it out for the village of Chulock.

We needed to look for enemy strongholds, as was also the case in Ray's report, and together, we decided to send ten knights from the Winged Lion "Griffon" squad.

And two days later, on October 22nd, it was in the hands of Victor Lockletter, the Knight Commander in command at Fort Chulock.

The Demon Crusaders sent out a lot of scouts and explored the whereabouts of the Demons, but their whereabouts were unknown and, even more so, the return of the scouts continued for a few days.

He was discussing his future policy with his deputy chief, Seaver Gladstone.

"Again, you should have borrowed Ray. If he had, he might have done a little more. Oh, Shiver, I'm never, ever disparaging you."

Victor rushes, adding that, Seaver returns a grin.

"I understand. This is all they showed me. I think the same thing."

The two immediately returned to their serious expressions,

"Well, I can't help but expect those who aren't there. We have to figure out what to do."

"Ha. You should conduct an aerial reconnaissance by a winged lion first. Especially if we should find what Archrite calls enemy strongholds."

"Right. If you can find it there, you can also lure the enemy. Let's start there..."

They ordered the winged lions they had been sent to scout to find the whereabouts of the demons.
