Lesson 24: Mauki Village

The night of February 5, 2026, Tria calendar.

Although he crossed the wilderness of despair (Desperationis), Ray fell from high fever due to fatigue and loss of magic. Ashley decided to ask for help from a small ghost village called Mauki Village, which she stumbled upon.

Mauki Village was a pioneering village on the outer edge of the desperate wilderness, a small village with more than a dozen private houses and fields. The border means it never looks like a rich land, but the little ghost peasants warmly welcomed the Rays, the "shipwrecks”.

Ashley bore Ray unconscious and was led by one of the Beast Slave Troops, Nuebe, to a cabin with a healer. accompanied by a magnificent, benign little ghost tribe man with them.

As he walks, he tells him his name is "Wolho".

Ashley replies, "It's Ashley Marcut," but "I'm sorry. Now there's something about Ray..." he adds.

"I know. My wife is the healer. Don't worry, I'll be home soon," he grins. Its face resembled a goblin and looked like a cunning grin, but its thoughtful eyes don't make it disgusting.

As Urho put it, we quickly reached a small house like a digging shed. When he entered the house first, he heard a bumpy and rushing footsteps inside. Soon Wolho looked up and said, "I'm ready. Get in there right away," I urge you to go inside.

Go in first as if Uno were alert to the trap, make sure it's safe and nod small. Ashley took that signal and went inside to jump in.

As I unloaded Ray, I said, "It's a hell of a fever. I need your help. Please..." begs the little ghost woman who was inside.

A ghost woman is not as similar to a demon as a man, and without the slightest visible fangs and forehead projections, there is no discomfort in being said to be a small human woman. The woman smiled softly, "It's a guinea pig. I'll do what I can. Let me sleep there," he said, pointing to the bedroom.

Ashley immediately put Ray to bed and said, "Almost there. Hang in there," I take his hand and encourage him.

As she watched how it was, Guinness had a soft grin,

"You guys must be tired, too. Drink something warm and take your time."

The word signaled, two children appearing from the back with a hot pot, pouring a soup-like liquid into a barbecue vessel.

Stella lowered her head, "Thank you," and when she received the vessel, after a sip, she said, "Master Ashley, rest, too. I'll see about Master Ray" and give Ashley the vessel.

The children of the Little Ghost tribe distribute vessels to Uno as well, but Uno exclaims, "You don't have to worry about us". Ashley said, "Rest your lords, too. I think these people deserve to be trusted," he says, mouthing the vessel.

Uno worried about what to do, but decided that following Ashley's words was less dangerous than undermining the mood of the little ghosts here, and received the vessel.

Seeing how it went, Wolho was thinking about their relationship.

(Earlier, the Beast Man (Seyce) said that the young man was the Lord. Including that stellar daughter, the beasts have a terribly high skill... "Desperate (Desperationis)" story, but seeing them almost makes me laugh with Yotai, but it may be possible... Nonetheless, the beasts seem to be wholeheartedly convinced of that young man... and respectful of his daughter Ashley. Is it a subordination that lasts from generation to generation? In the meantime, I just have to ask what's going on tomorrow...)

As Urho watches, the guinea pig casts a spell with his hand in his hand and hangs a healing magic.

"The Great Source of Life, God of Water (Fonce). Heal his wounds with the power of the purifying Spirit. I don't give my life for the price. Healing Power (Heel)"

Placing his hand around Ray's chest and infusing the power of the Spirit, he begins to sweat on the forehead of the guinea pig in about thirty seconds.

Slowly releasing his hand, he turns to the Ashleys and tells them, "For now, that's all I can do".

"Will it help? Ray..." Ashley asked Guine with an anxious look, she nodded small and said, "My gut felt weak. Probably due to fatigue. So, if you stay calm, I think you'll recover," he smiled.

Ashley fell on both knees, picked up on the guinea pig and said, "Thank you. Really...... thank you," he said in tears. "Thank you," said Stella, who similarly cried next to it, bowing her head deeply.

Uno conveys a small word of gratitude, but was calmly watching Ray.

(Breathing is calming. So far, no sign of a trap...... but this is enemy territory. You can't be alarmed until Master Arklight has recovered...)

Wolho looked at them and said, "It will be early tomorrow morning for this man to wake up. Narrow but rest here," he says.

Ashley said, "Thank you for your care. Stella, Lord Uno, let's sweeten it to your words," he suggested.

Ashley and Stella sleep as they nurse beside Ray, and four people, Uno, Seis, Ocho and Nuebe, sit behind the wall near the entrance. At this time, Uno was secretly telling his three men to take turns sleeping.

Sometimes, Ashley confirms, although Ray still does not wake up, his breathing was calm and his fever, which was so high, had dropped after half the night.

(In the meantime, we seem to have crossed...)

Ashley exhales in relief as she strokes Ray's hair. And I was beginning to think about what lay ahead.

(I just want Ray to rest here until he's feeling better. But I'm still anxious to see if this place is safe... however much Uno and the others rehearse, this is an enemy land. The other person is a ghost. I can't be alarmed......)

Nothing happened that night, and I've been speaking to the Ashleys, who are still resting in the dark hours.

"I'm sorry I'm resting, but I have to tell the village people about you as soon as the night breaks. Let me know what's going on."

Ashley was sneering and calmly observing a man named Urho.

(It doesn't feel crude to the little ghost tribe. A samurai, no, something like a former samurai... no gap, but not as good as Lord Uno. You're an unbeatable arm even for me...)

Ashley said, "I couldn't even thank you enough for last night. Again, let me thank you," he bows his head. Wolho said to the words, "We can't live without helping each other in a place like this. Until I did the obvious," he added, blurring, "I'm glad you helped.

Uno was calmly exploring his surroundings as he watched the exchange.

(No sign around the house... this man would not be a threat. A dozen houses means about twenty people can fight. If this man were the standard, we would be able to escape alone. Conditions apply if Master Arklight moves...)

As an intermediate, and having lived as an assassin, he had also begun to develop people-like feelings since meeting the Rays. As a result, he had lost his usual calm last night and had not been able to confirm the power of what could be his enemy. Of course, he had some idea of the skill of the villagers he met and the terrain of the village, but still felt anxious to embark on such an adventure. But now that I've regained my calm, I know I can handle it without the unforeseen, and finally my usual leeway is back.

When Urho's interrogation was about to begin, Ray, who was lying on the bunk, whispered a small groan.

"Master Ray!" Stella's voice echoes in the room. Shortly afterwards, I heard a slightly squeamish Ray called "Morning, Stella".

Ashley immediately knelt beside her bedroom and said, "Ray! Great! Really......" and bury his face in his chest. "You look worried," Ray whispers gently as he strokes her head, unable to grasp the situation. And he smiles gently at Stella, too, "I'm worried, but I think I'm okay now," he says.

He continued to stroke his hair without saying anything until Ashley settled down for about ten seconds, but expressed doubts about being inside a stranger's house.

"Where am I? Why am I here?

To that word, Ulho replied, "This is my house," and "I'm Ulho. It's like the Mauki Village Mayor," he said, "I heard you were dying. I showed it to the healer," he explains briefly.

Ray woke up slowly and said, "Thank you. I say Ray," he bowed his head. And I asked Ashley, "How far do you know the circumstances? Ash, how far did you explain this?," Uno asked the question, "I was about to explain now. We're telling you that Seyce is in distress and we're looking for help, but more than that...".

Ray nodded to Uno and tried to get off the sleeping table, "Well, let me explain from mine," he said.

"You're a sick man. Sleep a little longer. If you want to talk, just stay asleep."

Ray lay down on the bunk again as he bowed his head small to Wolho's offer.

(What shall I do? I can't be honest with you... we're people from the west side of Aquila no matter what we think. I'm not familiar with the situation here, so lying hectic seems like a quick fix... it doesn't seem like a bad person to see it. Besides, I guess being in such a dangerous place doesn't even work with the current demonic system... to some extent, it might be more convincing to say you came to help Luna while hiding the facts...)

I'll sort the story out in my head. And I started talking in a slow tone.

"We followed our people from the west of Aquila... they were captured by the army of Sochius... when we gathered information in Leriche, we found out that we would take them to the capital and sacrifice some ritual... so we crossed the wilderness of despair to get ahead. But at the end of the day, I got sick... and then, as you know,"

His story differed from the truth in that Luna was the son of the Moon and that the involvement of the Moon Demon spell Varma Niska was on the ground, and that he obtained information in Leriche, but it almost told the truth.

On top of that, he infiltrated Sochius, an enemy country, to help his people, and tried to buy them sympathy by explaining that he had crossed an even more dangerous wilderness of despair.

If this village were a normal haunted village, it would be captured simply because it had infiltrated from an enemy country, but Ray thought it might be because critics of the current regime were hiding close to the border, which is also a “desperate wilderness (Desperationis)" that the devils fear and abhor. Wolho's atmosphere was repugnant, and he placed a bet that he would buy sympathy by believing in his instincts.

"Well... to rescue my people..." Ulho muttered, "it's still something I did unscrupulous. It must have been something I could have done because I didn't know how horrible the" wilderness ”was..." he shook his neck sideways.

Ray saw how it went and was convinced he had won the bet.

The fact that Urho did not show hostility to the fact that he came from the west, even a story that would be detrimental to the country of recapture of prisoners, because he used the term "rescue his fellow citizens” and did not deny it in particular.

To Ashley's words, "Can't we just give it a little rest?" he said, "We need to hear the views of the village crowd, but the problem is probably quite good. Because this is like a bunch of abandoned people," he snorted.

Wolho said "let me check some" and started asking questions.

It's about “what demons you met in the wilderness” and “how many of your people you lost," Ray answers honestly. "You've really crossed the wilderness," he murmured after some questions, "will you please leave this house until we're done talking to the village crowd," and left the house. Instead, his wife's guinea pig appeared, "You look good," she laughed Nicole, "hanging healing magic just in case? I've heard."

Ray said, "It's okay now. Thank you," he replied, "Well, I'll get ready for dinner," and went back to the back.

By that time the night was dawning and the light of day began to plug in through the gaps in the doors and wooden windows.

We made sure that it was just us, and Ray made sure that Ashley and the others knew what had happened since we lost our minds.

In it Ashley said, "I've left your arsenal in the wilderness. I'm sorry," he says, bowing his head. Ray said, "I don't have a choice. And no one's going to steal it," he said in a bright voice, even smaller voice, "I think that would have been better. My gear stands out. No way, because I don't think the name" White Mage ”is known so far, but I've never crossed it unknowingly," he added.

Ashley gets warm in the back of his chest to his care.

Never extravagant: porridge of wheat and root vegetable soup, but we had a warm breakfast. I haven't had a decent meal in a long time and the brightness returns to the faces of the Rays as well.

After breakfast, Ulho came back.

"Admitted," in short, "until I'm back in shape. Of course, if you have a problem, I'll have you out of here right away," he said with a harsh look.

"Thank you," Ray lowered his head, "I have another one," he explained of Dies waiting outside the village, but Wolho laughs, "It's the same with one more," without offending him.

Ray seemed to recover, but that night, he had a fever again. The guinea pig's view was that there might have been an overlap between the loss of health and the fact that the magic had not fully recovered. She suggested you should rest for one day tomorrow.

Ashley immediately decides to rest tomorrow, during which time she asks Uno to retrieve her and Ray's weapons.

By the next day, Ray was visibly recovering.

Ray wanted to leave immediately, but sometime somehow he shrugged in the form of a break to Ashley, who opposed him hard.

The village of Mauki was considered a poor pioneering village, but unexpectedly, it was rich.

One example is that there is no lord in this village, i.e. there is no tax. Also, the land thought to be lean is abundant enough, and the food situation is not bad, coupled with the abundant water of the river flowing nearby.

Moreover, all the inhabitants of this village were those who abandoned their homeland, but all the villagers possessed some skill, which allowed them to become self-sufficient.

The other thing I can say is that this place is safer than I thought.

Only one km (Kimmel) away from the realm of the "Wilderness of Despair” that the Demons abhor, this in turn brings safety. For one thing, the Demons do not want to come near this place, so there are no unexpected visitors except the likes of the Rays. Also, since what flows here is basically those who aspire to the wilderness in order to extinguish their own lives, if they do not return, there will be no chase but supposedly dead. Because of the nearer wilderness, is the normal demon afraid of the wilderness, it cannot appear around here, on the contrary, the demons of the wilderness never cross the boundaries of the realm. Just in case, a fence is built, but it seems to prevent the livestock inside from escaping rather than protecting it from the outside.

Ray got permission to walk in the village and was lagging behind in his thoughts as he hung out and walked.

(The people in this village are little ghosts, but they're all good people. Mr. Wolho looks scared, but he's sweet, and he doesn't discriminate against us because of race, and we're all kind. If it's all these people, there's no war... these people, so maybe they've fled the city... I feel like this is a place to embody the ideals of Sochius...)

The ideal of Sochius, a demonic nation, is that “all races have equal opportunities to be happy”, the king does not exist and the policy is determined by a deliberation by the representatives of the race. At present, however, some of the ghosts and the Moon Demons were engaged in politics in conflict, and the ideal of statehood had been lost.

And I started thinking about what was to come.

(As far as the map goes, if we go about fifty km (Kimmel) east of here, we can get out between Zaleshe, the capital of the Ghost Nation, and Luberna, the capital of the Ghost Nation. From there we'll have to explore the information on Luna (Moon Palace) as we head north on the street...... from the village of Leriche to Zaleshe is three hundred and fifty km (Kimmel). It's about half a month since Moon Palace left, so it's not strange to be in Zaleshe...... I guess I manage to feel critical in time......)

The Rays, who recovered, left again in the early morning of Feb. 8 for the east.
