Episode 43: Confronting the Sea Snake Dragon: Previous

After 10am on June 1st.

Ray was on a small boat and headed offshore to crusade a sea snake dragon (Sea Serpent) sitting in Cheslock Bay.

After he lured him to the beach and stopped moving with a fishnet and rope that sank in the sea, he dragged him up near the beach and knocked him down by a large crossbow (barista) that spanned forty units.

Clear sky blue skies, white clouds and marine blue waters floating in the distance, seagulls ringing sounds all the more reminiscent of resorts in the South.

But Uno on the boat with Ray was staring at a point without being blinded by such a landscape.

"Looks like we're looking at this one from outside the harbor."

Ray was falling asleep on the stern side of the boat as much as possible, generating water flow from his left hand.

As a result, the speed of the boat is about 10 km/h (Kimmel), and since the tip of the boat is lifted, the forward cannot be ascertained from his position.

"How far is it?

It's about seven hundred meters.

"Let me know if the enemy has any movement," he says, focusing on maneuvering the ship.

The water depth gradually deepens and the seabed is barely visible. According to the fishermen, there are more than fifty melts deep near the port's entrance and exit.

Approaching at a slow rate, Cesar Pent never tried to get closer, just raising his sickle and looking at the boat, as if he were reluctant to get inside the harbor.

The distance from the sea serpent approaches about a hundred melts. The sickle neck, which was a demon over fifty melts in length and also more than five melts tall, was also clearly visible from Ray, whose gaze was low.

(Big... not double compared to the Green Snake Dragon (Green Serpent) we fought a year ago...)

Gizzard teeth like a sea urchin gleam in the light of day.

"What will you do? It's dangerous to get any closer."

"I'll try to get a little closer. Hold on tight as you may make a rapid acceleration"

It slows down further and approaches at a boat-like speed of hand rowing. However, it is not going straight, but is heading toward the zigzag while changing its direction. This requires a hundred and eighty degree turnaround when being attacked directly from the front, which not only kills the speed until then, but can cause the boat to overturn.

If you change direction to the zigzag, the angle when swiveling is smaller than one hundred and eighty degrees, so the chances of overturning are smaller, and you can escape diagonally without stopping on the spot.

Also, one of the reasons I thought it might be easier to eat with the urchin in front of me.

"Fifty more melts!" When Uno screams, Cesarpent bows his head at once and dives into the sea.

"I'm coming straight at you!" Before Uno screams, Ray rapidly flips the boat, accelerating it all at once.

Cold sea water descends on the rays at the same time as acceleration. As a result, I could not open my eyes while looking forward, but it was possible to confirm behind me.

Behind their boat, I can see the back of the sea serpent in about thirty melts of position. The distance was gradually approaching, not in a triangle like the oxen, but in a prick like the back of a fish.

"Are you in the right direction!" Ray confirms to Uno. I can't keep my eyes off the enemy behind me right now, so I can't see if it's out of direction or with his own eyes.

"Only a few, but we're stopping by the military port side! A little rudder to the right."

Cut the rudder to the right as Uno instructed.

"Keep the needle! Now we're heading straight to the beach."

In the meantime, Cesar Pent is slowly approaching. This is because Ray is deliberately slowing down, and there was still plenty of room for speed.

After about thirty seconds, Cesar Pent suddenly disappeared.

Ray in a hurry instructs Uno to check the position of the sea serpent.

"Cesar pent is gone! See where you are!

Uno said, "Thank you," and looked around,

"We're diving and chasing you! The distance is about thirty melts! Fast! Please increase your speed!

There is usually a rush mixed with the voice of a calm uno.

Without responding to it, Ray magically moves into his left hand, accelerating at once.

The tip lifted and the wave bump became stronger. I feel pain in the droplets that I can slap on my face.

"I pulled it away. Please slow down!

Slightly slows down by saying "Roger."

Return to the original speed, but I am concerned that Uno is staring at the sea level firmly.

"What's up? Have you lost sight of it?

"No... I'm diving deep, but I'm able to confirm. Just..."

Mouths where I said it. And I immediately started talking about whether things had changed.

"I stopped...... I stopped moving in the sea. The distance is about thirty melts. I don't know the depth of the water, but it feels like I'm spying on this one in a pretty deep place. How would you like it?

Ray stops the magic and the boat slows down. However, in case of a sudden launch, the left hand remains on the sea.

"You're more careful than I thought. Maybe you don't want to use your efforts on a boat like this."

I said, "Sure, that possibility is…" and the expression changes.

"Cesar pent is starting to move! We're going back offshore!

Seetherpent seemed to have given up pursuing the Rays' boat, and Rays also saw Seetherpent slowly turning his body.

"We might have to rethink the operation."

"Yes, I think I would be a repeat of the same thing in this way"

"We need to see a little more of the opponent's movements, even if we're rethinking the operation. Let's try again."

He then tried to pull in the same way, but Cesar Pent never entered more than two hundred melts from outside the harbor.

Ray once decided to go back to the harbor and rethink the operation.

Return to the embankment of the military port to the beach awaited by Imperial Army commander Ijdoah Richards and galley ship captain Harry Morton.

I asked Uno for his opinion as I walked.

"What do you think of Uno?

Uno is bewildered by the question,

"Cesar Pent should have gone ashore and attacked people. I can't believe that Cesar Pent hesitates to go to the shallow water. I think there's another reason, but I don't know anything more."

"That's true, isn't it? Even though the movement slows down, I also find it hard to believe that a first-degree equivalent demon would hesitate to go to shallow waters. Maybe there's something you don't like about demons."

We arrive at the beach talking about that.

Richards said, "What's going on?" I heard.

Ray explained that he wouldn't come inside if he passed where Cesar Pent was,

"Isn't there something like a demon shelter in this harbor?

Richards replied immediately to the question, "You've never heard such a story,"

"With such convenience, it should be in every port, but I've never heard of such a story"

Because Richards, who has been in the Imperial Navy for a long time, doesn't know, Ray thought there was unlikely to be a demon shelter.

"Is there any difference between this and other ports? It doesn't feel like I'm being vigilant, it feels like I don't like going in. I think there's some difference between smell, sound, light?

"I can't think of it alone. A veteran sailor or merchant sailor might come up with something."

Richards gathered soldiers and merchant ship sailors waiting.

"... If you ever think you're different in this port from any other, I want you to say anything. Especially the smell, the sound, the light that demons feel..."

Even so, sailors and sailors just looked at each other.

"Any triviality is fine. For example, do you think the smell of the ocean is slightly different or do you hear sounds on a regular basis? Let me know if you can think of anything like that!

When Ray said so, the senile fisherman asked to speak.

"I don't know if you're hungry, but there are a lot of creatures here that look like unusual colored catfish. They don't even have fish close to them, and when I fry them from the sea, they smell weird..."

The fisherman's story was that there are many molluscs like catfish and cows in the sand in the harbor, and when hung on the net, there is a strange odor that feels sour.

Ray wondered if that Namacomodoki might have caused it.

"Let me know if you know anything about that creature"

The fishermen are puzzled by his question. It's just annoying to us, because we never tried to find out about our habits.

"Any triviality is fine. Let me know if you know anything like that about not getting on the net at night or hanging around a lot"

Earlier fishermen will speak again.

"Yeah, hey, after lunch, you're not going to get on the net. Especially on a beautiful day like this. Maybe he doesn't like the day."

Taking that word, other fishermen said, "Speaking of which, it will take a lot on the fishing port side. It hardly hangs in the military harbor," he says.

And the sailor said, "I just figured it out,"

"At a time when tide currents changed, Cesar Pent sometimes approached those in the military harbor. I don't know if that has anything to do with it."

Ray desperately summarizes that information in his head.

(I hate the smell of catfish. Less during the day, more on the fishing port side... can we handle it if we pull it in from the military port side... no, still not. We'll have to get close to the beach eventually...)

When Ray was troubled, Ashley raised her hand and asked for a statement as to whether she had come up with anything.

"I remember when I was a Green Serpent, can't I use that?"

"What do you mean?

"He didn't quite follow me after he went ashore. Because I hated places I didn't like. Remember how we pulled him into the trap then?

So Ray also understood what she was trying to say.

"Right! I made him chase after me in a harassing attack. If you do the same thing, Cesar Pent will come after me forgetting. That's what I'm talking about."

"Exactly. But there's only one problem."

"Problem?" says Ray tilting his neck.

"It's about who makes the offense. You can't let your enemies get too close, and a half-breed attack won't let you forget me in anger."

Ray calls out, "If you attack with magic..." but realizes he can't take part in the attack.

"Exactly, but I can't do that. Sure, it's the best hand to attack with magic, but you can't use magic with boat manipulation"

That's when Luna, who was going to the merchant ship's breakwater, showed up.

"Then I'll do it. I could use a bow and magic. Most offensive magic can't use a lot of power."

So Ray says "dangerous" and disagrees. But when I tried to say ahead, Ashley said, "Maybe it's a good idea," and blocked it.

"You don't have to do magic damage. If you don't like them, that's fine. What do you say, Luna? How long can you use the magic of harassment?

"Right. It doesn't seem to work very well with dark attributes, so I'm going to use flame arrows (flame arrows) or similar magic. Then you can shoot twenty or thirty."

Ashley nods contentedly, but Ray disagrees.

"The boat rocks more than I thought. Even Mr. Uno is about to be shaken down many times, so it could fall if it's Luna. If it falls, it'll just feed Cesar Pent."

"Why don't you secure yourself with a rope? You can't use a bow if you do, but if it's magic, it's not a problem."

Ray tried to disagree even more,

"I don't think I should just rely on you. Let me do what I can."

Neither can Ray return words to Luna's plea.

In the end, Luna was also to be on the boat.

Richards listened to their interaction and couldn't hide his surprise.

(I thought you didn't have a sword for the Lockhart family, but you were not just a archer, you were a demon archer... you're still a surprise house... and what are these young people going to Jilsol for? At first I wondered if Sir Zacharias would even go looking for ingredients at his request, but it would be too desperate for that. Fair enough. If we do well, we will clear up the issue of Cesar Pent, which is a concern... we have to think about serious stories, rewards...)

He had already put out a first-degree equivalent of a demon crusade request to the Adventurers Guild, and the Rays had decided to take it. The remuneration was 10,000 C (krona) for the first level request and 10 million yen for the Japanese yen, but 20,000 C was also prepared as a special remuneration.

(This is the best I can do under Cheslock's command authority. And then there's enough pressure on the commercial guild to screw it in so as to color it with the purchase of material...)

The resumption of Operation Cesarpent Crusade was decided after the afternoon, during which time modifications were to be made to the part on which Luna would ride.
