Lesson 60: Northbound

Once again, the stage returns to Gilsall Island.

June 15.

The Rays depart from the village of Natalis here, where the Temple of the Creator God (Creatore) is located, in order to head to the meadow area of the central Empire region.

Clerical chief Lair Gyneth, cleric Atro Kayan and village chief Connally were here to drop him off.

"Thank you for all your help," Ray said, lowering his head as did the Ashleys.

"It's my pleasure to thank you. Because thanks to you, the gods have spoken to me."

That's what Leah says and bows his head.

"I may come again. Thank you then."

When Kitty Erbain says so, she smiles, "Of course she does," he says.

When the Rays crossed the horse, they set off for Gilsall, the king's capital.

Atro and Connally left the scene where they were no longer visible, but Lair was staring at the direction they were going.

(I just really appreciate it. You spoke directly to the gods. We weren't dumped......)

What the gods told Lair was that the Temple of Creatore would serve as a base of faith after the Rays prevented the invasion of the God of Nothingness (Vanitas).

And even though at that dawn the priests will need it with their knowledge. However, that period was a far future and it was important to keep this place safe until then.

(We are needed. Even if that's a distant future...... that's all I can hope for......)

The gods were telling the Rears why clerics barely responded to how much they prayed.

That was because the power of Ray and Luna, who summoned him to confront Vanitas, was unknown and, worst of all, he was told that he was planning a way to attract Vanitas' steps to feed on the Temple of Creatore and destroy both the clergy and the others.

Though I am shocked by the word, I am convinced that if we hang ourselves and the world on the balance, we will come to that conclusion every moment.

(All I can do for those two is pray. Pray for the success of those children loved by the gods. That's all......)

Lair kneels on the spot and prays for them. At that moment, I was enveloped in a sacred air like in the temple.

(The gods seem to care. It's something I can't do, but I think those kids can do it. Really strange kids......)

And when you get up slowly, you walk towards the temple. The expression was wrapped in a soft grin as usual.

June 21.

The Rays arrived in Renecrates, a town north of Gilsall Island. We stopped in Jilsall, the king's capital, but we couldn't find a ship to the empire and decided to wait for the ship in Renecrates as planned.

Though I decided to wait, I start looking for a boat to head to Cheslock or one I can contact to cross the Empire mainland a little faster.

I find a trader, I listen to him, but he says no, "If you wait about ten days, I can handle it, but you can't do it right away".

Though we searched for more ships, we soon found out that it was a small town and that there were no ships that could make it to Cheslock safely.

When I was about to give up, someone came into contact with the Rays. A fisherman in this town, he learned that the Rays wanted to carry a letter to Cheslock and said he had come to see him.

"I asked you to carry the letter, if that's what you want."

He's a tough guy with a seared face and arms like a round too, and he calls himself Bill.

"Yes... are you a fisherman?

"Oh, I'm a fisherman here now"

That's how I get a grinning look.

Ray didn't look like he was laughing because he had a tough face.

Still managed to return a laugh,

"I have about 100km (Kimmel), is it okay?

"Of course I do. I was a sailor near Cheslock until three years ago. The sea around here is my garden."

I felt frigid at that grand language, but the sooner you carry the letter, the sooner I can get to the mainland of the Empire.

"How about five gold coins? You have that much money, don't you?

Five pieces of gold will cost 500 kronas and about 500,000 yen in Japanese yen.

If Ray is hesitant about that amount,

"Storms come a lot around here this time of year. It's been steady for the last few days, but I don't know what's going on in five days."

Still, I can't trust one person in front of me right now.

Bill noticed that said, "I don't know what else to do,"

How about three gold coins?

Three hundred kronas think you can let it out, and Ray nods.

"Pass this letter to Mr. Tobias when you get to Cheslock," and give him the letter that was prepared.

But I couldn't trust him and added the terms.

"The advance is one gold coin. Be sure to get a reply from Tobias. I'll give you the rest in exchange for that letter."

Bill grinned bitterly at the words and nodded loudly, "I get it," he said.

"Well, there's no way you can trust me, but this story benefits me, too."

"Is it a benefit?" and lean his neck.

"That's right. The other guy is that Tobias from the Closure Chamber of Commerce, right? I want him to give me a hand..."

Bill originally had a tight trade across aristocratic territory in the southern part of the empire, but he came under tight control and fled to Renecrates. Almost when it cooled down, he wanted to be hired as a sailor by the Closure Chamber of Commerce instead of getting his hands on tight trade again.

"It stinks of spiciness. I'm just saying goodbye from this town. You seem to have a loan to Tobias, so I'm going to let you use it."

With that word, Ray was willing to trust him.

Bill then left the port immediately. His story was that he would be able to get to Cheslock tomorrow at noon, and that he would be picked up as early as June 26, five days later.

The Rays waited to be picked up as they trained.

The people of the town watched as they distanced themselves from the rare sight of martial arts training. There are few soldiers in this town either, because I never saw intense training or anything like that.

morning of June 26th.

As Bill said, the sky is covered with thicker and thicker clouds, with wet winds blowing through from the south.

"That's some kind of cloud," Ray says, looking up at the sky with Ashley's worried face, "That's right.

"I asked the veteran fisherman that it would be rough the day after tomorrow or so. At this time of year, the ten days will continue. Will you be all right?"

Stella also communicates the information she gets as she looks up at the sky worryingly.

Around noon, a vessel of the Closure Chamber of Commerce, the Westwind (Zephyr), entered the port of Renecrates. The Rays will be on their way to the harbor soon.

When the ship landed, Tobias came down trying to jump.

Suddenly without a greeting, he asks, "Are you ready to leave?"

"Yeah, you can leave as soon as you get your horse and your stuff," Ray replies surprised.

"Then get it right away. If we don't hurry, we won't be able to get the ship out."

Tobias originally had a swordswallowing face, but only more because of his frustration.

The Rays intuit that they don't have time for that look and rush to get their stuff. There was no big baggage and when we got back about enough, the ship was already in the port ready to leave.

The Rays immediately brought the horses and their luggage into the ship.

"Use this southerly wind to return to Cheslock. Shake more than before, but don't worry, I'll get you back safe."

To Tobias's words Ray remembers the seasickness he went through, darkening his expression. But when I missed this timing, I didn't say anything from being late on a few days basis.

The Zephyr leaves the port of Renecrates as it glides. As Tobias put it, the ship begins to shake heavily just after leaving the harbour.

Two hours later, the wind grew stronger and it began to rain. The triangle sail (latin sail) swells wide and heavy rain slams the deck.

Not only does it shake loudly to the left and right, but from time to time the bow lifts loudly and comes up with the sound of tapping the bottom of a ship called a van.

Rays, unfamiliar with the voyage, soon became seasick due to such severe shaking.

The only thing was that the Unos and Stella didn't have to get seasick, but with so much wobbling that they got seasick up to Kitty, who was used to traveling, Ray was anxious to be really okay while fighting nausea.

Though the sway is great, the Zephyr in the southerly wind travels through the sea as it flies.

It took all day and night to get there, but this time it took about half an hour to get to the south of the Wale Peninsula. Isn't the Empire side in the storm range yet, it wasn't raining and there was just a strong southerly wind.

The sun had already fallen, but Tobias is not going to wait until tomorrow morning, but is going straight into the port of Cheslock, giving tedious instructions to the sailors.

"We're going to escape into the harbor! At the end of the day, we pull by boat! ……

There was also a rush on their faces, and they obeyed without defying Tobias's orders.

I could see the lighthouse lights on the embankment of Cheslock's harbor.

Tobias's voice gets even louder.

"Pull the sail! The rudder is in the center! All right, let him hit the back sail!

We slowed down as we entered the harbour and began to prepare for boarding.

An hour later, the Zephyr arrived at Cheslock with the sound of Gotun.

immediately after the date has changed, and there is no shadow in the harbor.

Shaking and seasickness led to a flurry and a ray of footsteps coming out onto the deck.

"You've already arrived. Helpful......"

"It's the fastest I've ever seen. If I was half a day late, I'd be eating a halt in Renecrates for days."

Ray thanked Tobias again.

"Thank you. I'm sorry you had to carry us."

I would otherwise do business in Renecrates, but this time only transporting the Rays because the weather could have been worse. He apologized for that.

"I don't mind. I just repaid the Sea Serpent."

"Thank you. Pass this to Mr. Bill. Remaining rewards included"

That's what I say. I give him a leather bag with gold coins.

After shaking hands with Tobias and breaking up, I headed to the inn. Late at night, but because there is an inn that deals with merchant ships that come into the harbor.

Ray enters the inn in a flimsy foothold and falls into the bedroom.

The next morning I woke up neatly but it was rough weather outside.

Everyone gathers in the dining room to discuss the future.

"We'll push the bad weather to leave like this or we'll see how it goes for the day," Ashley said, turning off the tantrum of the discussion.

"I wonder what the weather will be like ahead. I think you should ask the locals before they judge you."

When Ray said that, Stella,

"I asked the sailors on the Zephyr that the storm would last a few days around here,"

"So you have no choice but to wait. If we head north, the weather may recover, and there's no difficulty."

There was no disagreement with his opinion, and after breakfast, he was to face the Closure Chamber of Commerce and the Robbins Chamber of Commerce and leave as is.

Thanks again to Tobias at the Closure Chamber of Commerce, head to the Robbins Chamber of Commerce. Vitali White of the Robbins Chamber of Commerce, who guided us all the way to Cheslock, had already left for the north, and no one knew, but had access to information within the Empire while we were on the island of Gilsall.

One of the clerks tells me that the Empire is steadily preparing for a war with the Holy King Luke.

"... We've been talking lately about an elite Fourth Corps leaving for Lark Hill. And there are rumors that His Royal Highness Leopold's Third and Seventh Regiments are about to march out..."

Ray listens to the story and solicits a sense of crisis.

(We have more to talk about than I thought. We may not make it if we don't hurry......)

After the Robbins Chamber of Commerce, the Rays set off north on Southern Avenue, the main street in the southern part of the Empire.

Leaving Cheslock, the Rays head north all the way. Though initially plagued by severe storms in the early summer when we left, the weather recovered and things went smoothly without any trouble.

Like them, many merchants were on their way to the Imperial Capital, and when they looked into the reasons, they talked about going into selling supplies to coincide with imperial army marches.

"Looks like we're leaving in a few days. If we don't pull out the Imperial Army, we might find it harder to move on."

What Ray cared about was that the streets would be blocked by the Imperial Army's big army.

Luna nods loudly to that concern as well.

"Right. I want to get out of here before I leave the capital. Because even if I can't do that, it feels like catching up in Ezzarington and not heading west first, I'm going to follow behind the army."

Ray was snorting at it too.
