Choosing an apprentice was important to me when I became a professor at the School of Magic.

In this school, in the third grade, each student will have an instructor.

Since good professors choose excellent disciples and talented students also wish to learn under good professors, their character as magicians of nature and masters and disciples is proportionate.

I had to choose a good student to carry on the magic of Dr. Lilula.

Both Dr. Lilra and I were some of the leading geniuses in the School of Magic, and then my disciples must be geniuses, too.

A disciple can only be taken about one to a few at a time, and can't be taught otherwise.

So the qualities of the disciple need to be well identified.

Especially since this is my first apprentice, all the more so.

My first attempt at discipleship was an 11-year-old girl by the name of Sophia.

Sophia enrolled at just nine years of age in the School of Magic and has since shown her highest talent in the school year, leaving the name of a genius wanting.

I went into magic school as a young boy, too, and I felt familiar with Sofia's position.

When I actually met her, Sophia was a familiar but very beautiful looking girl.

The magical talent was comparable to mine, and even now I felt like choosing Sophia as my apprentice.

I teach Sophia what Dr. Lilula taught me about "Ruthie the Crimson" and now it's "Ruthie the Crimson".

Because I admired Dr. Lilula, this time I wanted to become a master and recreate the relationship between Dr. Lilula and a mentor like me.

But Sophia didn't become my apprentice.

Principal Glenn of the School of Magic did not seem to be on board with me making Sophia my apprentice.

"You and Sophia are too immature."

Principal Glenn, come to my lab. That's what I said with a bitter laugh.

"That's not true! I should be the best at drawing on Sophia's talent!

"Talent, in the sense that you two are impeccable. But. It's not like talent is everything."

"I don't know what Principal Glenn is trying to say"

"It would not necessarily produce good results for too young a professor to teach too young a disciple. Sophia has a better teacher, and you have a better disciple."

Principal Glenn said so, leaving.

Even with Principal Glenn's opposition, I couldn't give up.

Masters and disciples choose from each other.

If Sophia hopes strongly, it will be possible to push off the principal's opposition and make him my apprentice.

Back then I was highly conjectured and wanted to make Sophia my own apprentice at all costs.

I thought doing so would help Sophia as well.

As Dr. Lillula led me.

I met and persuaded Sophia many times.

But Sophia chose another professor as her teacher, not me.

I mean, I wasn't chosen.

I've always been the chief of magic school, and although it's weird to say so myself, I did everything well.

So I couldn't make Sophia my apprentice, and I was filled with defeat.

Other outstanding students were not far from Sofia either.

In the meantime, while I was taking the time to convince Sophia, the top graded students had mostly decided on their masters.

I was in a hurry.

At any rate, but I want to make Sophia my apprentice.

It's not uncommon to change a master along the way, so we still have a chance to rewind.

While I kept thinking about that, one day when I was doing research, I made careless and outrageous mistakes.

The wrong amount of magic medicine was formulated, and it erupted in the lab.

The drug ignited violently and inflamed the lab in an instant.

I tried to use magic to extinguish it but the wand wasn't close.

In the moment I wanted to take my wand, I was inhaling toxic smoke.

I fell on the spot and became less conscious.

There was a flame approaching in front of me, and I was ready to die.

I can't believe we're going to go after Dr. Lilra for this.

But I didn't die.

When I realized I was being held by someone.

And when I opened my eyes, one boy was glancing at my face worryingly.

He was a magic school student in a black robe and was about fifteen or six years old.

My eyes shine with strange brightness, and that's impressive.

"Are you all right, Dr. Lucy?

"Yeah, yeah. Who are you?

"I'm a third-year solo."

Solon.

I've heard the name before.

I've never stood out for my grades or my magical talents.

I enrolled two years later than the standard age of admission, so I was already sixteen even though I was in third grade.

However, he was a caretaker for Sofia, a five-year-old classmate, and he had tremendous trust from Sofia.

I also hear Sophia is barely even away from Solon for an hour.

Eventually I remembered that I could hold him.

I was getting my hands around my back and legs, and I kept my whole weight with Solon.

I blushed unexpectedly and stared at Solon.

"Uh..."

Let's get to the infirmary.

"The fire..."

I looked around the lab.

The books and desks were blackburned and the lab was in an unscrupulous state, but the fire seemed to have stopped.

Sounds like Solon magically wiped it out for me.

"Excuse me. I wish I could have wiped it off a little sooner..."

He says with all due respect.

I mean, it seems Solon helped me.

He was using some pretty dangerous magic chemicals, and the extent of the fire was terrible.

So I guess he also risked his life to help me.

I whispered, "Thank you."

I said I could walk to the infirmary by myself, but as soon as Solon got me down, I fluttered.

Solon hastily hugged me.

Solon's hand, which received me, was limp and comfortable, and I was unexpectedly limp.

"Don't push me. I'll take you to the infirmary."

I mean, he's going to carry me around like he just did.

I was embarrassed, but I had no choice.

"Do me a favor... okay?

"Absolutely."

So Solon turned his hand around my leg and back and hugged me, making my face a little red.

Solon seemed embarrassed, too, and I laughed all the time.

As he walked, he tried to heal me with healing magic that could be used without a cane.

I could see his magical talent as very average.

What's so good about it, it doesn't seem like it at all.

But Sophia trusts him.

Why not?

"I was surprised because there happened to be a street nearby and it was a big fire. Glad to see the teacher falling down, but I'm back in consciousness"

"How could you help me?

Solon looked strange.

"Is there a reason to help?

"Because... I think it was very dangerous."

"I'm learning magic to help people at times like this, so there's no reason not to use it."

Solon's words were fresh to me.

What do you use magic for?

I never even thought about that.

I was studying magic to meet the expectations of my favorite Dr. Lilula, and to gain higher fame.

There was no concept of the purpose of using magic there.

Solon, as always, looked at me worryingly indistinctly.

And he used healing magic all the time.

I had little to worry about, even if I was ever admired or respected.

It was about Dr. Lilula who worried about me.

So I was a little tickled and happy with Solon's worries.

I thought I figured out a little bit how Sophia trusted Solon.

Later, when I was fully recovered, I summoned Solon to a blurry lab.

I had decided to make Solon my apprentice.

"Me? Is a genius apprentice like Dr. Lucy okay with me?

"I'm calling you here because I thought you were worthy of my apprentice"

"That's... thank you"

"So, are you going to be my apprentice?

What if they say no, like they did when Sophia did?

Being turned down was a surprisingly hard experience.

Because that means I wasn't needed and I wasn't chosen.

But Solon smiled.

"Of course I won't say no. A genius like Dr. Lucy chose me as his apprentice."

I felt my heart bounce off that smile.

I wanted to be a master like Dr. Lilula.

Then the apprentice doesn't have to be Sophia.

Students I can trust.

When I thought about it that way, it seemed to me that I had no other option than Solon.

I slammed my index finger against Solon's forehead.

"... you're immature right now, but I'm sure I'll make you a first-rate magician"

"Thank you. I'm looking forward to that."

Solon was grinning, but I was restless.

I feel my body temperature go up.

How can I behave like a master?

It was me who was immature.

I have zero experience as a teacher, even if I have the ability to be a magician.

I remember the first time I met Dr. Lilula.

The teacher glanced into my young eyes and shook my hand.

When I stared at Solon, Solon stared back at me too.

I offered my right hand and hesitated to snap, "Uh..." Solon grabbed my hand naturally, wondering if he understood my intentions.

"Coming up... Nice to meet you, Solon"

"Yes, it's nice to meet you, Dr. Lucy"

Solon's hands were limp and pleasant.

That's how my life as my and Solon's mentor began.

Though I didn't know how to deal with Solon and said a lot of unscrupulous things, Solon always took me for a giggle.

Probably Solon was a lot more adult than me.

Unlike my classmates who once looked at me far-flung and rejected me, Solon accepted me.

Just like Dr. Lilra.

Solon became more and more important to me.

And there was a decisive incident.
