Lesson 22: Cavalry Combat

The rain falling on my face is gradually increasing in intensity.

While paying attention to the mud, Chaff looked back behind him.

─ Wolf smoke. You were ready.

Around where ambushes using carriages were lurking, I could see smoke muscles rising into the sky.

Summer in the rain and poor visibility.

It was depressing rain, but now it was just a thankful chaff.

"─ Enemy ahead, three horsemen!

Hearing one of the escorts report, Chaff gazes at the end of the road.

He hastily pulls out his sword at the chaffs coming towards him, wondering if it's a scourge sent out to see how it goes.

The Chaffs were still running at full speed after jumping over the carriage, so they encountered it earlier than expected by the scouts.

"You don't have to fight. Drop it."

It's also a waste of time stabbing the stubborn.

Chaff looks to the left and right escorts.

The left and right guards with the eyes slightly increased their speed and lined up in Felix.

One hand away from the reins pulls the long sword out of his hips.

Did the scouts decide to be ready, or they began to slow down so that waving their swords would not bring them down.

But the Felix and the others don't slow down.

"It doesn't make sense when the cavalry's late."

Felix shrugged like he was stunned.

In the blink of an eye, the scouts fell and hung on the horseshoes of the chaffs running behind Felix and his men.

Felix and the others deliver their swords to the sheath as they return the line.

Chaff spoke to Felix.

"There must still be enemies. Be careful."

There's a unit somewhere that's been transmitted by wolf smoke and sent out scouts.

Chaff recalls the directions.

"Indeed, beyond this, it is enlarged, rendezvous with the road along the river. Ambush is the road after rendezvous?"

"No, maybe not"

Yellah disagreed with Chaff's predictions.

Yella explains as Felix and the others clear their ears.

"Traders around here may proceed by road after they have handed over goods on the road along the river. Because it will shorten the business route to the hinterland."

"In other words, is it more likely to be witnessed on the road after rendezvous"

I don't know how far an assassin would pay attention to witnesses.

But if rumors erupt that a group of mercenaries are attacking people, it will crack into the reputation of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce.

It is difficult to imagine that those who plan to take over will devalue the Federation of Chambers of Commerce.

─ ─ Then, the immediate concern is how the soldiers who were stretching along the river move.

If it is to be complete, split into two hands and strangle the chaffs from the front and back of the road.

Given the possibility that the Chaffs will turn back at the point where the carriage was, the enemy will come more from behind.

But it has nothing to do with the chaffs coming over the carriage.

The rain is still getting more intense.

Mixed with the rain noise, he heard a slight group of horses rushing, and Chaff looked back.

But there's no sign of the enemy.

I don't think so. At the same time, Felix sticks up his voice.

"Enemy shadow to the left, beyond the woods!

A cavalry figure could be seen across the Black Pine Forest and on a riverside road maintained in parallel.

─ ─ The number is ten horsemen.

"Everybody, pull over to the left!

Copy that.

Felix and the others responded, and a five-horse escort lined up in a vertical row to Chaff's left.

Felix caught sight of his enemies walking together across the forest.

"... hey, that's not a mercenary"

With a rugged face, Felix shrugged.

Yella observed the enemy across the forest, tilting his neck.

"How do you know?

"Not at a time when you're joining the Trynen cavalry."

Yella also has no choice but to convince herself of the determination backed by absolute confidence about equestrianism.

Chaff agrees with Felix's words and adds an explanation to Yella.

"Even at this speed, the enemy's line is not disturbed. Both horses and riders should be considered fairly trained. I can't seem to afford boulders..."

There is no doubt that it possesses a skill beyond its dimensions as a mercenary.

- Ex-cavalry? I think it's a good technique to call it elite, but why are you here?

Question blurs in the back of my brain, but I don't have time to give an answer.

The enemy has ten horsemen, and the chaff side only has a five-horsemen escort and a chaff with Yellah on board.

If the road keeps rendezvous, it's obviously unfavourable.

"Felix...... can you guess?

Chaff raises the question.

Felix looked back over his shoulder with an awesome grin.

"Bastards! Young ladies want a bend!

Felix raised his voice and set up a throwing knife in one hand.

The other escorts also hoist the nibbly end of the mouth, pull out the knife and stand on their left hand.

You heard Felix, the enemy cavalry turned its gaze.

"No way......"

Yella squeaks when she senses what she intends to do.

While maintaining speed, Felix and the others narrowed their eyes and threw a knife into the enemy cavalry.

Of the five knives, three stand on the trunk of a black pine between them.

But two have reached the enemy cavalry.

He makes a blunt noise, two fall behind enemy cavalry, and one rider falls into an empty horse rampage.

The enemy cavalry suddenly looked back at his rear companion.

"Young lady, I have another bottle left, what do you want me to do?

"Keep it warm. We may still have enemies."

In response to Felix joking and asking for instructions, Chaff answers seriously and looks to the end of the road.

Visiting the rendezvous point with the road along the river, Chaff held the reins strongly.

"The enemy has pulled out his weapon. Equipment is uniform and a crooked knife."

One of the escorts reports.

The enemy cavalry also appears to have entered into full-scale preparations for engagement.

"Get this one out of your sword, too"

Copy that.

Felix and the others drew swords as they returned the words.

A long sword gripped in his left hand wets in the rain dew and emits a noisy glow.

Even if you set up a weapon, the enemy will not slow down.

I guess I'll have more arms than the earlier scouts.

The rendezvous point is imminent.

The moment the leading Felix entered the rendezvous point, the sound of metal bumping into each other rang continuously.

Shortly after the rendezvous, the song knife and Felix's long sword, wielded by the enemy cavalry, were met, and the following enemies and escorts were likewise set up.

While walking in two rows, the escorts continue to attack the enemy cavalry.

Among other things, Felix was dealing with the two of them.

Let him sew between the leading enemies and also play a song knife that can be poked in from the diagonal rear.

The speed of the horses combined, the enemy had to be conscious of maintaining the balance of his body, and he seemed to be attacking.

Within doing so, an escort who was behind Felix slashed the butt of an enemy horse who was played a song knife by Felix to show a gap.

The sudden pain disrupts the horse's gait and the rear of the enemy cavalry congests.

One of the enemy cavalry distracted by his decelerating companions was thrust into his shoulder with a long sword cut, out of balance.

Suddenly, the long sword wielded by Chaff's escort, who leaned over his horse, tears the air parallel to the ground and slashes the enemy cavalry backwards.

There is no way that a congested enemy cavalry could have avoided his comrades flying from the front.

A colliding rider was thrown out, the horse fell, and involved a follow-up.

The leading enemy cavalry, who confirmed the rear noise sideways, looks blue.

"You're alone."

Felix smiled furiously and slammed the long sword in.

The enemy cavalry was outnumbered with a song knife, but a knife was thrown from the rear and pierced the empty stomach.

Felix slashed and dumped him where the pain had loosened his strength.

The horse who lost his rider starts running behind the chaffs according to his instincts.

I thought I'd chase them away, but sometimes it was a waste of time, and I ignored them.

Yella checks the front and rear of the road and zeroes her breath of relief at the absence of the enemy.

"Apparently, you escaped."

"No, not yet."

Denying Yellah's words, Chaff pours a serious eye at the end of the road.

"There was no good horse the other day. Considering the distance of the cavalry, there is no other unit that sent out the scouts"

The enemy cavalry was traveling at full speed.

If you saw wolf smoke before you started acting, the distance from scouts is too wide.

I opened my mouth to skip an order in preparation for a new enemy, and...

"Young lady, right!

Felix urged vigilance with a look of impatience.

Oblique your horse to the left while shifting your gaze to the right like it was bounced.

In sight were six cavalry men running across the Black Pine Forest.

They travel at the highest speeds on a simple trail that pays for branches and grass beforehand, all targeting the chaffs with a songknife in one hand.

The escorts, including Felix, try to break in between Chaff and the enemy, but they don't make it.

An enemy joining from the trail is swayed with a songblade, approaching Chaff and Yellah.

"─ Yella, stick to the horse's neck."

Shortly after the whisper reached Yellah, Chaff twirls his reins and jumps his horse.

For a moment, the enemy hesitates, changing his aim from Yellah and attempting to slash the horse.

But a moment of hesitation on the part of the enemy was enough for Chaff.

Pull one foot out of the box and kick the enemy's horse's neck.

Sudden shock, leaving the chaff like the horse doesn't like it.

The enemy hurriedly swung through the song knife, but it did not reach Chaff's horse slightly.

With his toenails back in the air and down to the ground, Chaff slowed down while paying attention to the enemy, who began to pack his distance again.

Sharpen your hearing and hear the sound behind you.

─ ─ Right behind you, honest guy, it helps.

When I saw the chaff laughing niggardly, the enemy frowned.

Chaff opens his mouth as he weighs his horse with his right thigh.

- Backwards, please.

An enemy threw his gaze behind Chirali and immediately left the chaff.

An empty horse, excited and cut between Chaff and his enemies, rushes through luxuriously.

The empty horses who followed the instincts behind the chaffs got excited with repeated anger.

If I hadn't run out of the way, someone in the escort would have inspired me by driving.

An empty horse running for real left Chaff and his enemies with a light run because he had not put anyone on his back.

In the meantime, the distance was completely open.

I can hear the tongues of enemy cavalry.

Chaff ignored, rendezvous with the escorts and switched positions.

I can do a vertical row of escort walls to the right.

The six horsemen of the enemy also have five horsemen lined up in a row, accompanied by their escorts.

Chaff gazed at the commander-like man behind the enemy wall.

A person with excellent motor vision can barely see that he is wearing glasses.

But it was obvious to everyone that this time the enemy was the sharpest.

─ ─ Someone might lose it.

The ominous hunch was not spoken of, and Chaff decided to be ready.
