Chapter 1722: Mia Lane Is Certain
Mia Lane, although a woman, possesses a calm and composed personality and meticulous thinking, qualities that enable her to accomplish great things.
As Catherine steps out of the King’s bedchamber, her pace deliberately pauses, her aloof gaze swiftly glances over Eden, and then she departs.
Eden turns to glance at her back, his expression equally grim.
The relationship between these two has always been tense, given that Eden is the brother of the King’s deceased wife, while Catherine is the newly wed consort.
After the entourage leaves, Eden steps into the King’s bedchamber.
Ian Shelby, standing by the bed, turns his gaze at the sound, "Uncle." He speaks softly, his manner as usual.
The middle-aged man strides forward, his frame imposing, his expression stern: "How is the King? Is he still coughing?"
"He coughed up blood this morning," Ian replies quietly, taking a deep breath, looking sorrowful.
Eden proceeds directly to the bedside, observing the King with closed eyes, his breathing weak, lips pale and slightly parted.
No one knows what Eden is thinking; he remains silent.
Ian’s gaze sweeps past his uncle, settling on his father, who seems to be asleep, unaware of his uncle’s presence.
Eden looks at the King, then at Ian, "Stay with him." Then he turns and leaves.
After Eden’s departure, Ian assesses that he hasn’t aroused suspicion and won’t likely return soon.
He then sits by the bedside, takes a bottle of medicine from his pocket, and speaks softly, "Father, let’s take the medicine first."
The King opens his eyes, supports himself to rise, and Ian promptly reaches out to assist, "Be careful."
The father and son exchange no more words; Ian cautiously administers the medicine, the King cooperatively opens his mouth, exactly 30 milliliters.
After taking the medicine, Ian swiftly tightens the cap, puts the bottle back in his pocket, "Father, you must have hope, maintain an unwavering belief. This medicine is the antidote; what follows is up to time."
"When you get the chance, thank her well for me." The King expresses deep gratitude toward Mia Lane.
Mia Lane’s image is permanently etched in the King’s mind; her expression conveys a profound sense of kindness.
"Yes, I will. Rest well and strive for a quick recovery."
"Yes, yes."
Ian helps him lie back down, sits by the bedside to check his pulse, which is becoming increasingly steady.
Meanwhile, Catherine has already escorted Justin Kingston and Mia Lane back to the palace.
"Mrs. Kingston must be very tired after such a long flight, please rest well. I won’t disturb you," Catherine speaks politely to her.
"Farewell, Princess," Mia Lane responds with a gentle smile, her demeanor serene.
Julie appears in clean attire, ready to receive her.
The Kingston couple bids farewell to the Princess, agreeing to meet again to discuss evening gown design details.
They escort Catherine to the door and watch her leave.
Only then do they turn and enter the inner hall.
"Is it safe here?" Mia Lane looks around, asking, "Is it under surveillance?"
"No, it’s already been checked."
"Okay," Mia Lane then assuredly informs him, "The murderer is the one who just blocked us at the King’s palace doors."
Justin Kingston muses, "That person is Eden."
"He has another name, Miles Lee," Mia Lane confidently tells him.
Justin Kingston is taken aback, looking warily at his wife.
She says, "Because the method of poisoning exactly matches the medical book’s description, and the antidote’s formulation is effective, that’s why I went to the welfare institution."
Listening intently, Justin Kingston can’t help but admire her meticulousness.
He hears her continue, "I went to see Master Uncle, asked him who else had seen the medical book. He gave a name, also a person from the master’s sect, peer-ranked with him, named Miles Lee, who once practiced medicine, profiting from poison-making, and was expelled from the sect."
