Chapter 1800: Knowing Janelle Is Not Biological
"Dr. Shelby, what’s going on?" Carlotta clutched her heart anxiously, "Do I... have a serious medical issue?"
Nathan Mills quickly came over too, half-bent and full of tension as he asked, "Is Carlotta in a bad condition? What’s going on, really?"
Ian Shelby returned to his senses, staring firmly at Carlotta. He got straight to the point, "This bracelet doesn’t belong to you, does it?"
She was caught off guard. Unrelated to her health?
Carlotta was slightly stunned. She glanced at him and then at the middle-aged man standing by the bed, both confused. Why suddenly ask about the bracelet?
How did he know the bracelet wasn’t Carlotta’s?
"Can you tell me where the owner of this bracelet is?" Ian asked, looking at Carlotta. His tone was very calm, but his heart was turbulent, trying hard to restrain himself, "Or, where did you get this bracelet from?"
Carlotta and Nathan exchanged another glance. They both knew this bracelet had been on Janelle’s wrist, adjustable in length, long before they adopted her.
They suddenly realized, could Janelle’s background be connected to this bracelet?
Old Mills hurried to turn around and head to the door. Ian glanced over, seeing him close the door and lock it from behind.
After a mental struggle, Carlotta answered Ian with a selfish thought, "Found." She couldn’t lose Janelle! Couldn’t lose the daughter she had raised with so much effort.
But this answer brought a tinge of disappointment to Ian’s heart; had the clue been broken?
He stared intently at the woman leaning against the headboard, trying to see if she was lying.
Old Mills was very surprised, even incredulous, at the woman’s answer!
At this moment, Carlotta met Ian’s gaze and firmly added, "I found it at the entrance of a shopping mall a few years ago." She said it to increase credibility.
But this addition made Ian even more doubtful; he had already guessed in his heart, "This bracelet is Janelle Mills’, isn’t it?"
Carlotta’s chest tightened again at the question; why was he digging so deep?
Who was he, anyway?
Old Mills was clear-headed; he knew they couldn’t keep it a secret any longer, so he sighed heavily and said to Carlotta, "Janelle already knows."
"What?" Carlotta was a little dazed, looking at him, she asked, "What does she know?"
Ian also turned his gaze to his face.
Nathan looked at both of them, bracing himself to speak, "You had a major hemorrhage during surgery, and she found out through blood type that she isn’t our biological daughter."
At this moment, a sliver of hope rose in Ian’s heart!
Hearing this, Carlotta was undoubtedly shocked inside. She knew??
Then why hadn’t she felt anything these past days? Janelle had been acting like nothing happened, calling her mom back and forth.
Old Mills knew she was puzzled, so he continued, "But Janelle chose to pretend not to know. She still wants to be our daughter."
Alright, the answer was out; Janelle Mills wasn’t their biological child.
Ian suppressed the waves and excitement in his heart and said to them, "If this bracelet is Janelle’s, then she is my long-lost sister."
His tone was very certain, his voice pressed with years of urgency to find his sister, as he calmly said to Old Mills, "Uncle, please call her and ask her to come to the hospital. I want to do a paternity test with her."
Carlotta was completely dumbfounded; a sense of impending loss turned her face pale. Things happened too fast; she simply couldn’t react.
Old Mills looked at Carlotta, feeling a sense of helplessness encasing him. Whether to make this call or not left him truly torn.
