Chapter 1726: Jocelyn Handles the Situation Calmly

She didn’t look like she was lying, and that made Julie start doubting her own judgment.

If someone is lying, how can they manage not to blink, not to even flinch?

Julie questioned her again, "What exactly did your sister‑in‑law come here for?" Her gaze darkened, hoping the girl would come clean.

Jocelyn Morgan’s lips lifted slightly as she countered, "I don’t know what it is you’re suspecting, Captain? It was your Princess Consort who invited my brother over, she was the one who took the initiative to propose a collaboration. My brother has a good relationship with his wife, so he brought her along on the trip. Isn’t that perfectly normal?"

"What can a woman like her possibly do?" Jocelyn added casually.

Julie’s eyes remained icy. Every word this girl had just said sounded reasonable on the surface, but she wasn’t about to believe any of it.

Julie scrutinized her, looking her up and down from head to toe.

Jocelyn was actually panicking inside, but she had a strong tolerance for pressure, so on the surface she appeared calm and poised.

Julie thought she had really underestimated this girl. Sharp tongue, which just proved her mind was clear—and this whole demeanor made Julie feel she was anything but simple.

"If the Captain has nothing else, I’ll be going." With that, Jocelyn started past her, stepping forward.

"Stop." Julie’s cold voice cut through the air, carrying a forceful aura.

Jocelyn halted, her back to her, her heart giving a tiny jolt.

But she told herself she absolutely could not panic. She had to handle this woman well. No matter what she said—so long as there was no evidence—she must not admit to anything!

Three seconds later, Jocelyn heard footsteps.

Julie walked past her and came to a stop in front of her again.

The two women’s gazes locked once more.

"You poured tea all over me today on purpose, didn’t you?" Though it was phrased as a question, she used an affirmative tone. A sharp chill flashed in Julie’s eyes.

Jocelyn’s expression stayed composed. "I’ve already apologized to you about that. If the stain on your clothes is hard to get out, name your price and I’ll compensate you. How could I possibly have done it on purpose? There’s no bad blood between us."

"Don’t try to change the subject!" Julie’s face was dark and cold as she raised her voice slightly.

Her tone carried the intense displeasure of someone who’d run out of patience. "Jocelyn Morgan, you deliberately drenched me in water today for one reason only—to stop me from following the King into his bedchamber!"

The girl’s heart sank heavily. She... figured that out too?

The novelist told herself: don’t panic, don’t panic. Jocelyn had Julie’s character pinned down perfectly in her mind, yet she still met her gaze head‑on. "You’re slandering me. Do you have any proof?"

Just then, Princess Consort Catherine came hurrying over and caught the sound of their argument.

"What does it have to do with me whether you go in there or not?" Jocelyn looked as if she genuinely couldn’t make sense of it. "I was supposed to bring tea to Prince Louis. I bumped into you by accident, and I already apologized."

Their dispute reached Catherine’s ears clearly, making her quicken her steps.

This Julie really was looking for trouble with her.

Right before Julie could speak again, Catherine grabbed her arm. "That’s enough!" she snapped in a low voice, cutting her off.

"Your Highness." Jocelyn bowed to her obediently.

Julie was still seething inside.

Catherine looked apologetic. "Jocelyn, you can go, you can go. Julie’s head isn’t quite clear today, don’t take it to heart."

The girl gave her a smile. "Goodbye, Your Highness." She didn’t spare Julie another glance, lifting her feet and quickly walking away.

The anger Julie had been suppressing kept surging, and she glared after that departing figure, but with the Princess Consort present, she could only swallow it back down.

"Your Highness!"

Once Jocelyn had walked far enough away, Julie finally couldn’t hold it in. "She’s just an outsider. Why are you defending her so much?"
