Chapter 21: Anywhere There’s a Queue
Zhuozhan Shopping Center, at the Burberry store.
Gu Heng browsed around inside. The single personal shopper who had been following him had quietly become two, and both were now laden with shopping bags.
At Armani, Gu Heng bought a lot of business attire.
At Burberry, he bought a lot of casual jackets.
The purchases, which easily topped a hundred thousand yuan, were but a drop in the bucket for Gu Heng, who had over a hundred million in cash assets. It barely made a ripple in his mind.
"Gu Heng, it’s already late August."
"In a month at most, the weather here will start to cool down."
"If you’re not looking to buy too many short-sleeved shirts and shorts, I’d suggest you take a look at the Louis Vuitton store. Their men’s summer casual wear is quite nice."
Luo Xiwen suggested as they walked out of the Burberry store.
"Hmm..."
"Let’s just take a quick look then."
"I have to go after this. It’s about time."
Gu Heng nodded, his expression calm.
Four days of suppressed desire to spend, followed by half a day of frantic shopping, had already pushed him into a state of post-splurge clarity.
As they spoke, the group headed toward the Louis Vuitton store.
While they were still a good distance away, they could see a long line of about twenty people in front of the LV store.
They were only letting new people in as others came out.
"What’s going on?"
Gu Heng couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the sight.
"They just got a lot of new limited-edition bags in today. A lot of people heard the news and came to check out the commotion."
Shen Jia, the personal shopper walking behind Gu Heng, answered him.
"Oh..."
Gu Heng nodded in understanding but didn’t slow his pace.
Soon, the four of them arrived in front of the LV store.
Most of the people lining up in front of the LV store were young women.
As Gu Heng’s group of four slowly approached, they immediately drew many stares.
The women looked at the numerous Burberry bags carried by the two professional shoppers, then at the poised and elegant Luo Xiwen who looked like a secretary, and finally, their gazes landed on the well-dressed, handsome young man at the front—Gu Heng.
In an instant, many of the young women’s eyes lit up.
Gu Heng ignored the stares and led Luo Xiwen and the others straight toward the main entrance of the LV store.
However, Gu Heng never expected this.
Wang Hao, Liu Nanyi, and their group, whom he had just run into at the Helena counter not long ago, happened to be at the very front of the line.
"Er..."
"What a coincidence. We meet again."
The corner of Wang Hao’s mouth twitched slightly. He couldn’t believe that in a place as big as Zhuozhan Shopping Center, they would run into each other again after parting ways.
He felt a faint sense of bad luck, but Liu Nanyi, who was standing behind him, thought differently.
"Hey, handsome, it must be fate!"
Liu Nanyi’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Gu Heng. She gave him that sweet smile again and said, "I added you on WhatsApp just now. Did you forget to accept my request?"
"Oh..."
"I haven’t gotten around to it yet."
Gu Heng hadn’t expected her to be so forward again. A hint of surprise flickered in his eyes, but his expression didn’t change much. And he certainly didn’t pull out his phone to accept her friend request just because she mentioned it.
Standing at the front, Wang Hao saw Liu Nanyi’s attitude and tone toward Gu Heng, saw how she was practically begging Gu Heng to add her on WhatsApp, and his face turned green with envy.
"Gu Heng, look, everyone is waiting in line."
"We’ve been waiting for a long time, and it’s almost our turn."
Wang Hao said with a forced smile, "You can’t just cut in line because we know each other, can you?"
"Cut in line?"
Gu Heng shot him a sidelong glance. "Wang Hao, haven’t you ever heard the saying?"
"What saying?"
Wang Hao asked subconsciously.
Just as they were speaking, Shen Jia, who had proactively gone to speak with the LV store staff, quickly walked back toward Gu Heng with two employees in tow.
"Wherever there’s a line, there’s always a way to not be in it."
"So..."
"I don’t think I need to cut."
Gu Heng gave Wang Hao a small smile. Then, to the warm welcome of two LV staff members and under the watchful eyes of everyone else in line, he leisurely strolled into the Louis Vuitton store.
Wang Hao stared at Gu Heng’s back, looking like a complete idiot.
"Wang Hao, Gu Heng has a Zhuozhan Super VIP card."
"With that card, every single store in Zhuozhan will treat him like a VIP. He doesn’t need to wait in line, let alone cut in, okay?"
Liu Nanyi turned to look at Wang Hao and explained with a slightly exasperated tone.
As for Su Tang and Feng Yao, both women were stunned. Their minds were filled with the image of Gu Heng being respectfully welcomed by the staff, and the cool, nonchalant way he delivered that last line.
’It seems...’
’Maybe a degree isn’t that important after all.’
From the moment he entered the LV store to the moment he left, Gu Heng spent less than ten minutes in total.
He casually picked out a few summer outfits with simple logos, spending a total of 52,000 yuan.
As Gu Heng was leaving the LV store, Wang Hao, Liu Nanyi, and their friends were just being let inside.
They passed each other, and the girls saw the new LV shopping bags in the hands of the personal shoppers behind Gu Heng. They knew he had just spent a considerable amount of money again.
Even Feng Yao, who came from a wealthy family in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang region, couldn’t help but be secretly astonished at the sight of all the luxury brand bags the shoppers were carrying.
To say nothing of Su Tang, who was from a modestly well-off family, or Liu Nanyi, who was less affluent than the other two.
That night, Gu Heng, who spent money like water, left a deep impression on the three young women.
「Underground Parking Garage.」
After leaving the LV store, Gu Heng’s group didn’t continue browsing. They took the elevator straight down to the underground parking garage.
It was the same entrance they had used to arrive. By the time Gu Heng and the others got there, his Maybach GLS 600 had already been brought over by a mall attendant.
"Mr. Gu, your key."
The mall attendant presented Gu Heng’s car key with both hands.
"Thank you."
Gu Heng gave a slight nod, then opened the trunk and had Shen Jia and the other shopper put his recent purchases inside.
At the same time, Gu Heng quickly checked the items Shen Jia had delivered earlier.
"Xi Wen, thank you for your hard work today."
"You’ve been running around with me all day. This is a small token of my appreciation."
Gu Heng picked up a Helena gift box from the trunk and handed it to Luo Xiwen with a smile.
"Mr. Gu, I couldn’t possibly accept this."
"Providing you with good service is my job. It’s what I’m supposed to do."
Luo Xiwen was flattered and flustered, waving her hands to refuse.
"Just take it."
"I have things to do soon, so don’t waste my time."
Gu Heng directly thrust the Helena gift box into Luo Xiwen’s hands.
"But..."
When Luo Xiwen saw Gu Heng’s brow furrow slightly, she didn’t dare refuse any longer and said softly, "Thank you, Mr. Gu."
"It’s nothing."
Gu Heng waved his hand dismissively and stepped on the automatic running board to get into the driver’s seat. "When you hear back from Shenglong Real Estate, contact me on WhatsApp or by phone, and we’ll set up a time then."
"Okay."
Luo Xiwen stood by the car and bowed slightly. "Mr. Gu, please drive safely. My phone will be on for you 24 hours a day, so you can contact me anytime about anything."
"Mhm."
Gu Heng grunted in acknowledgment as the window slowly rose. Then, the Maybach GLS 600 started up smoothly and drove toward the garage exit.
Luo Xiwen watched the car gradually recede into the distance, then glanced down at the Helena gift box in her hands. A complex look flickered in her beautiful eyes...
