Chapter 7: A Shaken Bottom Line
Upon their first meeting, Gu Heng and Luo Xiwen exchanged a few brief pleasantries.
"Mr. Gu, the items you commissioned me to purchase are in the trunk. Would you like me to get them for you now?"
Luo Xiwen stood with her hands folded gracefully over her stomach, her posture elegant and her bearing poised.
"Bring them out."
Gu Heng gave a slight nod.
"Of course."
Luo Xiwen acknowledged and immediately turned to the trunk of the commercial van, retrieving a large number of items.
A quick glance revealed they were all either high-end fruits or imported snacks.
There were six large bags in total, and Luo Xiwen had to make two trips to bring them all out.
"Momo, thank you for feeding me these past four days."
"As a farewell gift, I had someone buy you some fruits and snacks."
"You can share the fruit with Sister Dan and the others. Keep the snacks in your locker for when you get hungry on a night shift."
Gu Heng took all the bags from Luo Xiwen and, turning to Xu Mo, said with a smile.
Over the past four days, Gu Heng and Xu Mo had talked a lot, and he had learned about her family’s financial situation.
For as long as she could remember, her father had been an idle, addicted alcoholic who would often beat her mother when he was drunk.
It wasn’t until two years ago, when her father died of a sudden heart attack from his drinking, that things at home improved slightly. Her mother was a sanitation worker who toiled from dawn till dusk just to raise her.
Growing up in such an environment, Xu Mo was keenly aware of her mother’s hardships. She had been sensible and extremely frugal since she was a child.
On a normal day, she would pinch every penny.
She wouldn’t even buy herself fruit, and she would patch her worn-out socks again and again.
And yet, despite all this, she had insisted on giving Gu Heng her own portion of fruit every day at lunch. Her kindness had genuinely moved him.
"No, no, no..."
"Gu Heng, this is way too much."
Seeing the six large bags Gu Heng was offering, Xu Mo’s glistening eyes flashed with unease, and she quickly waved her hands to refuse.
"Momo, you’ve been feeding me for so many days. How come it’s not okay for me to treat you once?" Gu Heng feigned a look of suspicion. "Or do you not even see me as a friend?"
"Of course not!"
Hearing this, a hint of anxiety appeared on Xu Mo’s delicate, fair face. She quickly reached out her slender hands to take the bags. "I’ll take them, I’ll take them! Is that better?"
"Sister Dan, could you please help her with some of that?"
Gu Heng turned to Liu Dan. "It looks like it’s a bit much for Momo to carry on her own."
"Ah, ah..."
"No problem, no problem at all!"
Liu Dan reflexively agreed.
"Here, let me. Give them all to me."
"I’m not in a rush anyway. I’ll help them take these things upstairs."
Just as Liu Dan was about to take the bags, Zhang Haoyang cut in, eagerly grabbing them. He then took the bags from Xu Mo’s hands as well, his attitude exceptionally proactive.
"Thank you, Brother Zhang."
Gu Heng could see the man’s eagerness to curry favor. He smiled and offered his thanks.
"It’s nothing, nothing! A small matter!"
Hearing Gu Heng call him "Brother Zhang," Zhang Haoyang’s smile grew even wider.
"Momo, I have a few other things to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now."
Gu Heng’s gaze returned to Xu Mo. "We’ll keep in touch on WhatsApp."
"Mhm."
Xu Mo nodded, a hint of reluctance in her expression.
Then, under the watchful eyes of Xu Mo, Liu Dan, and Zhang Haoyang, Gu Heng stepped into the Reelfa commercial van. The automatic door slid shut, and the vehicle quickly drove away.
...
Inside the quiet cabin of the van.
Gu Heng sat on a comfortable and soft captain’s chair, his exclusive client manager, Luo Xiwen, beside him. Her beautiful legs, wrapped in sheer stockings, were crossed, and her body was always angled slightly toward him. The faint, musk-like perfume she wore wafted between them.
Gu Heng casually twisted open a bottle of mineral water. He appeared relaxed and composed, but his mind was anything but calm.
It was, after all, the first time in his life he had been this close to such a goddess-level beauty, and the first time he had enjoyed the many "privileges" that wealth brought.
’Is this the charm of money?’
’It really is wonderful!’
While Gu Heng was marveling inwardly, Luo Xiwen was also secretly sizing him up.
After graduating from university, she had joined China Merchants Bank. She started as a teller at a small branch in Beichun, became a client manager, then transferred to a larger branch, and was only just promoted to a major client manager in the private banking division last week.
Gu Heng was her first major client in private banking, and he would likely be her only one for a long time to come.
A full 100 million yuan in cash savings was as rare as a phoenix feather in the relatively underdeveloped Ji Province.
This amount would undoubtedly rank in the top 1%, not just within CMB, but among all private banking clients of the five major state-owned banks combined.
Because of this, the bank was placing a high degree of importance on Gu Heng.
Not only did the branch president personally call to greet him, but Luo Xiwen was also directly appointed as his exclusive client manager, with her primary duty being to serve him well.
When she first received the assignment, Luo Xiwen assumed her client would be a middle-aged or elderly tycoon. She was truly stunned when she saw Gu Heng’s personal information.
Eighteen years old!
A hundred-millionaire!
The combination of these two labels felt like something out of a dream.
She, a graduate of the Central University of Finance and Economics, had worked tirelessly for four years, and her total savings had only just broken the six-figure mark last month. That was less than the interest he earned in a single month.
The vast disparity in their lives had kept Luo Xiwen up for several nights. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the balance in Gu Heng’s bank account, a number so long it looked like her phone number.
"Does your bank, CMB, assign an exclusive client manager to every private banking client?"
Gu Heng suddenly turned his head, breaking the silence in the car.
Faced with his question, Luo Xiwen pushed aside her thoughts and quickly refocused her attention. "Mr. Gu, while regular private banking clients do have a client manager, it’s usually one manager handling multiple clients."
"Only ultra-high-end private banking clients like yourself are assigned an exclusive manager. From now on, if you have any needs, whether financial or personal, you can contact me at any time."
Luo Xiwen’s voice was gentle and pleasant. Her teeth were perfectly white and straight, and she maintained a gentle smile as she spoke, making her a pleasure to look at.
Hearing two specific words in Luo Xiwen’s reply, Gu Heng raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly, a strange light flickering in his eyes.
"Any time?"
As those two words left Gu Heng’s lips, Luo Xiwen’s heart began to pound, and her mind instantly raced with countless possibilities.
’He emphasized those two words...’
’Could it be...’
She looked at Gu Heng’s young, handsome face, thought of his nine-figure balance, and the principles that had held firm against so many past temptations were now severely shaken.
After all, a young, rich, and handsome man was a super-rare, high-quality resource in society, holding an almost irresistible attraction for women.
Before meeting Gu Heng, Luo Xiwen had considered herself quite resistant to temptation.
Only now did she realize it wasn’t that her resistance was strong, but that the temptations she had faced before were simply on too low a level.
"Yes."
"You can, at any time..."
"...call me."
A blush crept onto Luo Xiwen’s cheeks, but she forced herself to answer with composure.
"Mm..."
Gu Heng nodded slightly. He appeared outwardly calm, but inside, his heart was stirred once more.
’As expected...’
’Without money, you’ll never know just how proactive the goddesses you admire can be!’
Gu Heng felt a wave of emotion as he took out his phone, opened his WhatsApp chat with Luo Xiwen, and directly transferred 5,000 yuan to her.
"This is for the things you helped me buy earlier."
Gu Heng explained after sending the money.
When Luo Xiwen saw the transfer notification, she quickly waved her hands. "Mr. Gu, the things I bought didn’t cost nearly that much."
"Keep it."
Gu Heng’s tone was casual. "I’m not used to having people run errands for free."
Having been rained on himself in the past, now that he had made it, he certainly wouldn’t become the kind of person he used to hate.
Even a workhorse—
—has its dignity!
"Thank you, Mr. Gu."
After a moment’s hesitation, Luo Xiwen quietly thanked him and accepted the 5,000 yuan he had transferred.
Amidst their casual conversation, the Reelfa sped towards the China Merchants Bank private banking center in Beichun...
