Chapter 203 - 177: The Gu Clan’s Autocracy and a Show of Force
Evidently, this batch of gold bars had all been custom-made for Gu Heng by Chinese Gold, making them distinctly different from the bars typically found on the market.
He casually picked up the gold tester Chen Mu had just given him. The results showed no issues whatsoever.
Package after package of gold bars was unwrapped, and the bars were laid out in neat rows.
The glittering golden scene was truly a spectacular sight.
Even Chen Mu, the vice minister of the China Gold Group’s investment management department, was seeing such a sight for the first time in his career, and a hint of awe showed in his eyes.
CLINK, CLANK...
As more and more gold bars were laid out, they would occasionally collide with a clink. But Gu Heng didn’t find the sound jarring at all; to him, it was practically heavenly music.
It took Gu Heng about fifteen minutes to unwrap all 40 sets of gold bars.
A single one of these bars was worth enough to provide the traditional gold wedding gifts for dozens of ordinary families.
"Chairman Gu, that’s 400 gold bars in total."
"Once you’ve confirmed the count, could you please sign the handover document?"
Chen Mu took a legal document from a colleague in the legal department and presented it to Gu Heng with both hands.
Gu Heng glanced down at the document.
Seeing that the document was in order, he took out the Montblanc pen he carried and signed his name in the bottom-right corner.
"Are you going to be taking this safe with you?"
Gu Heng asked Chen Mu as he signed.
"Mr. Gu, the safe is a gift to you."
Chen Mu replied with a smile, "I’ll clear all the existing passwords shortly and then show you how to set your own."
"Oh..."
"In that case, I won’t be modest."
"Otherwise, I really wouldn’t have anywhere to put all these gold bars on short notice."
Gu Heng did have a small safe in the walk-in closet of his master suite, but it was far too small. It could only hold a few important documents and certainly couldn’t accommodate such a large quantity of gold bars.
This safe from Chen Mu had truly solved a pressing problem for him.
"Chairman Gu, you are a distinguished client of the China Gold Group."
Chen Mu bowed slightly. "It is our honor to be of service to you."
A physical gold transaction of this scale involved a great deal of paperwork. Under Chen Mu’s guidance, Gu Heng signed several more legal documents.
Finally, with Chen Mu’s help, Gu Heng moved all the gold bars back into the safe. He then reset the first three levels of the safe’s password.
"Chairman Gu, please keep these gold authentication certificates safe."
After the 400 gold bars were stored back in the safe, Chen Mu once again received a bag from his colleague and handed it to Gu Heng.
"Each of the gold bars you just saw has a unique serial number on the bottom. These numbers correspond to the ones on these gold authentication certificates. The certificates are issued by the China Gold Group and serve as proof of authenticity worldwide."
As Gu Heng listened to the explanation, he took the gold authentication certificates out of the bag. They were plastic-laminated cards, each about the size of an adult’s palm. Each card featured photos of the front and back of the corresponding gold bar, and was stamped with the official seals of the China Gold Group and the World Gold Council.
"Alright."
Gu Heng glanced at them for a moment before putting the certificates back in the bag.
With the transaction complete, Chen Mu and the others took their leave.
Gu Heng saw Chen Mu and his team to the door. Only after watching them get into their cars and drive away did he turn and return to the living room.
"Have you eaten breakfast?"
Gu Heng asked casually as he saw Jiang Ruan emerge from the dining room.
"Mhm."
"I just finished."
Jiang Ruan nodded.
She was tactful enough not to ask what Gu Heng had been doing or who those people were. If he wanted to share, he would tell her without being prompted.
And if he didn’t want to say, it would be pointless for her to ask.
"I’m going to be very busy for the next few days."
"Before I left on my business trip, I promised I’d give you a few days off when I returned."
Gu Heng said to Jiang Ruan, "If you want to go home or take a trip, just let me know before you go."
"I..."
"I don’t want to go home right now, and I don’t feel like traveling either."
Jiang Ruan said softly after a moment of thought.
"Whatever you prefer."
"If you don’t want to take time off, you can just rest here at home."
Gu Heng had just sat down on the sofa when his phone began to ring again.
Ever since Deloitte China had finished structuring his shareholdings, Gu Heng had spent the rest of his time in Zhonghai interviewing all kinds of high-level talent almost daily.
Now that Gu Heng had returned from Zhonghai to Beichun, the high-level talent he had recruited in Zhonghai had also started arriving in Beichun over the past couple of days.
Leasing office space, renovating facades, designing corporate structures, recruiting employees...
Countless trivial matters, many of which required Gu Heng’s personal approval before they could proceed.
Zhao De Inheritance, Dingdun Capital, Changze Holdings, Celestial Travel Airlines, and Xingyao Culture—aside from Zhen Cui Group and Junlan Hotel, which required no attention, the other five companies were brand new. To say they were being built from the ground up was no exaggeration.
Amid the flurry of trivial tasks, three days flew by in an instant.
...
On this day, the sky was a vast, clear blue.
The azure expanse was like a flawless sapphire, deep and vast.
Warm sunlight streamed down, direct and intense.
