Chapter 1374: Afraid of Losing
Xia Yinian stood there frozen, forgetting to take a step.
It wasn’t until the woman making tea looked up at her that she confirmed this was the person she was searching for.
That day, Xia Yinian was drawn to those eyes, eyes very similar to Beicheng’s.
Upon closer inspection, she wasn’t sure exactly what was similar, but the feeling was unmistakable.
"Aunt." After a while, Xia Yinian called out softly.
Qiu Yan glanced at her and then withdrew her gaze, continuing with her task.
"Are you presumptuous, or just bold enough? You actually dared to find this place."
Xia Yinian lightly pursed her lips and continued forward, even sitting directly opposite Qiu Yan.
"You can consider me presumptuous." She responded softly, leaving her earlier discomfort far behind.
Listening to her words, Qiu Yan’s hand paused for half a second.
"Do you know why I sought you out?" She poured herself a cup of tea.
Taking up the cup, she brought it to her nose to smell, without any intention to drink, and then set the cup down again.
"Seems like it’s me who should be seeking you, not the other way around." Xia Yinian gazed at her unflinchingly, with an air of calm assurance.
Qiu Yan seemed a bit more interested in her, lifting her gaze to meet Xia Yinian’s eyes after setting the cup down.
"As expected, a woman favored by Beicheng, quite bold." She curled her lips slightly.
Undeniably, Xia Yinian genuinely found her beautiful.
Such beauty cannot be aptly described with a few simple words.
Beicheng is twenty-seven this year, what age should the woman who gave birth to him be?
But the person before her seemingly doesn’t resemble Beicheng’s mom; saying she’s Beicheng’s older sister wouldn’t be overreaching.
Beicheng looks so handsome, clearly an inheritance from his mother.
Getting close to fifty, yet still mesmerizingly beautiful, beauty that holds your gaze captive.
During her younger years, she must have been quite popular with men. Old Master Gu was one, but certainly not the only one.
"Thank you for the compliment, Aunt." Xia Yinian returned her a composed smile.
"I came here today simply to understand why you were so heartless, knowing your son was searching for you, yet hiding so far away from him, refusing to reunite?"
Summer Yinian’s question caught Qiu Yan by surprise.
She furrowed her brows and casually said, "Shouldn’t you be asking why I want to kill you?"
"If you’d like to explain, I’d be happy to listen. But I’m more interested in why you abandoned Beicheng for so many years?"
Thinking of her man’s cold personality beneath his vulnerable, anxious heart, Xia Yinian’s mood deteriorates.
He fears losing, which is why he ruthlessly hurt her that night.
Perhaps he’s feared losing from a young age, leading to his icy demeanor.
If he’d never met her, would Beicheng ever truly open up and find happiness in his life?
Xia Yinian knows, although he smiles so often by her side, failing to reunite with his biological mother limits his happiness.
"Do you think there’s any need for me to explain this to you?" Qiu Yan Yue slightly frowned, picked up the teacup from the table, and drank it all.
"Mother and child is a lifelong matter. If you really sought out how Beicheng has journeyed through life, maybe you wouldn’t say such things."
Xia Yinian looked at the woman opposite her.
