Chapter 38: The Royal Order
"Do you accept?" Valanta asked.
"What if you’re wrong and I kill him for no reason?" Sam inquired.
"I am not wrong," she insisted. "It was no ordinary dream. It was a vision, a foretelling of things to come."
"How can you be sure?" Sam pressed.
"I’ve had visions since I was very young," Valanta revealed. "And they always come true."
Sam crossed his arms. "Is there a particular reason you can’t trust your own people with this mission?"
"Most Braskans are very superstitious when it comes to matters of telepathy and clairvoyance," she explained. "I’ve kept my visions hidden from them for my entire life, else they’d have accused me of demonic possession and exiled me ages ago. I only act on this vision now because it pertains to my son."
Sam sighed and rubbed his temples. "If your people don’t trust visions, then assassinating this Sylar may spark a civil war in your kingdom, with me as the prime target. And I’ve already got enough enemies after me as it is."
"They will never know the true source of my knowledge," Valanta revealed. "As the Queen Regent, I am immune from interrogation in relation to Royal Orders given. I will simply state that a trusted informant relayed to me that Sylar was plotting High Treason against the Throne, and without knowing if others within the Kingdom were loyal to him, I elected to hire an outsider to track him and observe him."
Sam looked at her for a minute. "And then when he discovered my prying eyes, he attacked me, and I had no choice but to defend myself?"
She grinned widely. "Precisely."
"How do I know you won’t just deny this conversation ever happened and leave me hanging?" he asked.
"True, I could," she admitted. Then she got up and walked over to a cabinet in the meeting room, grabbing a piece of parchment, a quill, and an ink bottle. She then sat back down and began scratching out a note. "I’ll make it an official Royal Order."
After she was done writing, she held her hand over the bottom of the letter and conjured an icy mist from her palm. The mist warped a small circle section on the parchment, covering it in ice crystals. She then brushed the crystals away, leaving behind a raised section shaped into a circle of runes and symbols.
"That is my royal signet," she explained as she slid the letter across the table to Sam. "It is also enchanted with a sliver of my own Aura, so the authenticity cannot be called into question."
Sam sighed heavily and read the letter.
~BY THE ORDER OF VALANTA OF HOUSE E’TRAESMOND, QUEEN REGENT TO THE FORTHCOMING KING OF THE ROYAL KINGDOM OF BRASKA, FIRST LADY OF THE HIGH COUNCIL AND PROTECTOR OF THE REALM~
Lord Prince Sylar of House E’traesmond has been credibly accused of conspiracy to commit High Treason against the Throne.
In not knowing what others within the Kingdom share his cause, a separate third party, one Captain Sam Draconis, has been charged with a scouting mission to determine if the accusation holds true, and to apprehend Lord Prince Sylar if it does.
This letter serves as a Royal Pardon for any actions Captain Draconis may be required to perform in pursuit of this Royal Order.
May the Frost Father watch over us all, and may His Light continue to shine forever more upon Braska.
Sam looked up from the letter. "And what if Sylar does have loyal followers among your people? What’s to stop them from disregarding this letter and pursuing me anyway?"
She just grinned and lifted one of her legs onto the table, pulling back her dress to reveal her bare, light purple thigh. "I suppose I’ll be forced to make an offer you cannot refuse."
Sam gave her a little smirk and lifted an eyebrow in a flirty manner. "How scandalous!"
"Oh, this is nothing," she said with a wave of her hand. "I’ve been quite the little slut ever since my husband died."
"Well, you’re my slut now," Sam proclaimed, propping his feet on the table and leaning back in his chair, crossing his arms and grinning. "After I bring you Sylar’s head, you’re going to join my harem of pirates. That’s my asking price."
"Okay, it’s a deal!" she said with zero hesitation.
Sam raised his eyebrows. "I’m actually kind of surprised you agreed so quickly."
"After Brion’s coronation, my obligations to the Crown will be complete," she explained. "I want to see more of the world while I’m still young enough. Not to mention you and your ladies are quite the eye candy."
Sam tilted his head back and laughed. "You’re not wrong!"
He then put his feet down and leaned forward, running a hand along Valanta’s bare thigh. She let out a little sigh of pleasure and placed her hand on top of his, then gently pushed it away.
"Now, now, Captain, don’t claim your reward before your mission is complete," she said as she blushed.
He grinned at her and then they both stood to their feet.
"Very well. I will return to claim that fine, fine ass," he said as he tilted his head to look at her backside. She just giggled as she rolled up the letter, tied a ribbon around it, and handed it to him.
"A parting gift," she said as she leaned forward and kissed him on his cheek. Then she whispered in his ear. "I know you will ravage my insides, and I am hungry for it."
When Valanta said ’hungry’ with a little growl, Sam actually felt his cock harden a little in his pants.
"Oh, you are fun!" he said as he blushed a little himself.
"And Sam? Don’t tell Maravont or anyone else what we talked about until after you’ve returned," she added.
Sam nodded. "Undertsood. It’s been a pleasure, Your Majesty," he said with a little bow.
Soon Sam and the girls were back on the carriage heading to the docks. Maravont seemed to be eyeing Sam.
"What?" Sam asked.
"The meeting was fairly short, but... Did you fuck the Queen?" Maravont asked.
Sam snorted as he laughed.
