Chapter 208: Uninvited Eyes
The gates of the Grefo estate parted silently, letting the convoy glide onto the smooth driveway. The contrast between the decaying mud of the bogs and the glittering, high-tech security domes of the upper district felt almost violent.
The moment the sedan came to a complete halt, Jannah didn’t wait for anyone to open her door. She violently shoved it open, stepping out into the cool air, her pale face set in a hard, rigid mask of anger. She bypassed Guron and Himelda, who had just stepped out of their private transport, completely ignoring their gazes as she marched straight into the central wing. Shadron offered a tired, strained breath, running a hand through his hair as he split off toward his own private quarters to handle the fallout from the slums.
Guron Grefo stepped into the grand foyer, his sharp eyes tracking Jannah’s fast, rigid ascent up the stairs before he turned his gaze to his son.
"Dorrent," Guron called out, his voice carrying a heavy, commanding weight. "In my study. Now."
Dorrent didn’t argue. He adjusted the links of his cuffs, his broad chest expanding with a slow, measured breath as he followed his father into the dimly lit room. The doors clicked shut behind them, sealing out the rest of the mansion.
Guron walked straight over to his desk, placing his palms on the dark wood as he turned to face his son. His face was carved into a grim, analytical line.
"It seems everything that happened to you nine years ago... that entire catastrophic blackout... had something to do with Bellero Boren," Guron delivered flatly, his eyes narrowing with a sharp, dangerous clarity.
Dorrent stood towering near the center of the room, his posture rigid, his eyes completely cold. "I have always suspected that old Mafia god, Father," Dorrent rasped out, his jaw clenching until the bone stood out in high relief. "Even on that specific night nine years ago when my system experienced the black cycle... I had just come directly from Bellero’s compound. My neural paths didn’t just collapse on their own. He must have triggered it."
Guron let out a low, rumbling growl, nodding his head slowly as the historical puzzles clicked into place. "It is about time we unearth the truth. And since we finally have a concrete starting point... that mechanic, Enock. The man Bellero tried so desperately to label as insane with a forged psychiatric certificate."
Guron’s eyes flashed with a cold, ruthless intellect. "I have dealt with madmen for decades, Dorrent. I could tell with certainty that Enock was not mad at all. The man knew every single detail of what he was shouting in that alleyway. He holds the entire blueprint of Bellero’s games, and Bellero is simply moving his pawns to bury the truth before we can interrogate him."
Dorrent’s lips curled into a terrifying smirk that carried a lethal promise. He took a slow step forward, his winter-frost pheromones flaring subtly in the quiet room.
"Do not worry yourself, Father," Dorrent delivered, his voice dropping into a freezing vibration. "Bellero’s entire world is coming to crumbles. It is only a matter of time before I bring that old bastard to his knees forever. He won’t survive this time."
Guron looked at his son, his expression softening just a fraction, though his eyes remained deadly serious. "Just be careful not to let your guard down, my boy. Bellero Boren is a ruthless, unhinged snake who has survived decades in the dark. He will use every dirty trick in the world."
"So am I," Dorrent countered instantly, his eyes flashing with a sudden, demonic light—a display of pure, S-tier predatory dominance. "I am just as ruthless, Father. In fact, I would love to see just how far that old man can push his limits before I snap his neck."
Guron let out a low, satisfied grunt, resting his weight back against the desk. "Good. But what about the girl? It seems Jannah was completely blindsided by everything that happened in those bogs. She looked like her entire world was collapsing."
Dorrent’s dark smirk vanished, replaced by a complex, heavy gravity as the image of her tear-stained, angry face filled his mind. "Do not worry about her," Dorrent murmured, his voice dropping into a rough rasp. "I will deal with her. I will go to her room and explain every single detail to her, step by step. Even though... she is so stubborn."
Guron straightened his spine, fixing his son with an authoritative glare. "No matter how much she disturbs you, no matter how much she fights or curses your name, Dorrent... you must always remember one thing. She is the prize. She is the divine key to this family’s bright future. You must always treat her with respect, and most importantly... now that you have successfully marked her scent gland, you must make sure she gets pregnant as soon as possible."
A dark, possessive glint flared in Dorrent’s silver eyes. He stood up straight, towering over the desk as he gave his father an unshakeable assurance.
"It is only a matter of time before you hear the good news, Father," Dorrent stated flatly, his tone carrying finality. He turned on his heel, heading straight toward the doors. "Now, if you’ll excuse me... I have a very stubborn girl waiting for me."
Dorrent walked down the quiet corridor of the wing, his footsteps making no sound. He stopped outside Jannah’s bedroom door. Without bothering to knock, his hand reached out, turned the handle, and pushed the heavy door wide open.
Inside, Jannah was standing near the foot of the bed, in the middle of changing out of her dirt-stained clothes.
She had just stripped off her shirt and was in the process of wrapping a plush white bath towel around her frame. The sudden intrusion made her entire body jerk in shock. The towel was clutched tightly across her chest, but it did almost nothing to hide the breathtaking view of her pale, slender thighs, the smooth curve of her waist, and the expanse of her collarbone—where his mark was still actively pulsing.
Jannah’s eyes flared with explosive rage. She pressed her back against the bedpost, clutching the towel securely against her chest.
"Curse you, Dorrent!" Jannah shrieked, her voice trembling with intense indignancy. "Are you completely animalistic?! Can’t you learn how to knock on a door like a normal human being?!"
Dorrent stood frozen in the doorway, his eyes slowly dragged down her bare shoulders, taking in the flawless texture of her skin and the flushed, angry color on her cheeks. He didn’t step back; instead, he casually shut the door behind him with a quiet click.
"I didn’t know you were changing," Dorrent delivered smoothly, his voice rough and thick as he adjusted his cuffs, his gaze remaining locked onto her pale thighs.
