Chapter 68: Master Chef
Ray was confused why everyone left in a rush, but he couldn’t care enough to inquire.
He was rather sleepy from a food coma.
There was a master chef in the cafeteria, and Ray knew he had to make them spill the recipes or secret techniques to Belva. Once she learned the technique, he wouldn’t even need to walk out of the dorm and to the cafeteria.
’Ah, wait, I still need to attend class and watch the storyline unfold. Ugh, I’m just an extra, so I have to be present as an audience.’
Although it sounded like a drag, Ray does take joy in watching a clown fight.
The protagonist was still in his early days, so the naivety and stupidity were at their peak.
How hilarious would it be to watch the whole play in first-person view rather than as a reader?
"RAYMOND CARRION!
Out of the blue, Ray suddenly got his name called out. But he showed no reaction.
That was because he wasn’t used to the Carrion name yet.
’Looks like someone’s in trouble.’ He thought to himself and prayed for them.
Soon, he was about to go back to sleep until Belva nudged his arm repeatedly.
"Wake up, Young Master." She whispered softly.
How could she not recognize that voice even without turning around to see who it was?
"Broke Sam returned from her dump?" Ray opened his eyes slightly and inquired. He then looked up and frowned. "No, I don’t see her around. Why bother me now when I’m kind of tired?"
"It’s Professor Margaret," Belva informed him.
"Professor who now?"
"Me!" Finally, Margaret had had enough of Ray’s audacious behavior and shouted.
"Jeez, my eardrums." Ray finally lifted his head up and turned around. "I’m not old like you with hearing aids. So please, lower your tone."
Instantly, Belva gasped in horror. Her mouth was wide open from disbelief.
The same goes for Margaret, whose eyes nearly flared up from fury.
How long had it been since someone got the courage to call her old?
"Do you even know who I am?" Margaret suppressed her fury and asked coldly.
"Yeah." Ray picked his ears and nodded.
"If you do, then how dare you disrespect me?"
"Listen, I just know about you now. And it was your fault for raising your voice at me when we just met. What did you expect me to do? Go on my knees and bow to you like you’re an emperor or something?"
"Young Master..." As the banter between them was gradually rising, Belva quickly held his clothes subtly in hopes of warning him to back down.
"You have no respect for your seniors or professors." Margaret accused and was close to punishing him.
She simply hadn’t done it in respect for Belva. Otherwise, Ray would have long been swatted like a fly.
But little did Margaret expect that Ray’s eyes suddenly turned cold.
He slammed his palm on the table furiously and stood up, his eyes meeting directly at hers.
"Professor Margaret, right? What respect should I show you? Someone who can’t even protect their own student has no right to be talking about respect to me." He sneered coldly.
Although he couldn’t quite make out who she was exactly because he skimmed through these side characters in the novel, he could tell from Belva’s reaction that she must have been someone she respected.
Given Belva’s big change in character from her tragedy, there was probably only a handful of people who could make her hesitate.
With a few jigsaw pieces here and there, Ray concluded she must have been the professor that Belva was supposedly under care for. After all, she even made her presence all the way here when it was definitely not in protocol.
While the two had an intense staring contest, from afar, someone was coming out of the restroom with weak legs.
"Curse that bastard Raymond." Samantha hissed and gritted her teeth.
"I’ll make him pay—" Just when she was about to swear to get revenge, her pupils suddenly constricted when she witnessed the scene.
’What the heck?’ She was alarmed and astonished.
Why was Raymond clashing with a Professor?
She knew he was a bit insane, but not this insane.
The Professors in the Crestellan Academy had major influences. They might not be nobles, but their status and position couldn’t be ignored.
As she hid stealthily, she peeked out a little to eavesdrop.
"You do not have the right to lecture me, Student Raymond." Margaret’s expression was dark as he just had to bring up the very taboo topic that none of her colleagues would dare to say.
The last time it happened was very recently, too, and Professor Clark had already been given a lovely massage to the wall.
"Oh, I do have that right." Ray snorted and pointed at Belva with his thumb. "She’s my maid, and her problem is my problem now."
"How dare you!"
"NO, HOW DARE YOU!" He finally lost his cool and raised his voice.
"I don’t give a damn about your shitty reason on how you failed because you did fail to protect her. No matter how many excuses you have, failure to protect is a failure."
Shortly after saying that, Ray was unfortunately reminded of the tragedy that the people in Moonrock Town faced. He tried his best to protect, but he couldn’t protect those who lost their will to survive.
Did he fail there?
Yes, he absolutely did!
However, he wouldn’t go around making excuses or even say dumb crap like if he had arrived faster or whatnot.
What was done was done, and he could only strive to look forward.
But the nerve of Margaret to still put on an air of authority when she messed up badly and believed she was ’making amends’ was laughable.
He was a Rogue Reader who had seen this type of plot too many times, and he had no interest in letting it continue that way.
Back then, he was a reader and was powerless. But here, he was at least an Extra who could take charge of it!
