Chapter 97: Aria’s interruption
And as far as the public knew, the only person in recorded human history to ever wake up from the coma was Eren’s own younger sister.
Violet’s hands began to tremble. She reached up, frantically covering her quivering mouth as a cold wave of terror crashed over her chest.
She realised that she wasn’t just bearing a heavy, social burden. She was walking toward an inevitable, lonely grave. That made her stomach twist, threatening to make her vomit her sweet pastries right then and there.
"I’m... going to die...?" Violet whimpered out, tears instantly brimming in her wide, horrified eyes as her small frame shook. "I’m going to... end up alone on a bed... and never wake up...?"
"You really are remarkably overdramatic, Miss Violet," Eren noted dryly, casually leaning back in his chair with an amused smirk.
The purple haired cutie blinked, her tear-filled purple eyes staring at him in absolute, stunned bewilderment. "W-What...?"
"Did a single word come out of my mouth saying you were going to die, or that your condition was currently fatal?" Eren asked, raising a sarcastic eyebrow. "Besides... did you forget who is sitting right in front of you? I literally cured my own younger sister from that condition."
Violet’s heart, which had been engulfed into a dark, bottomless abyss, suddenly slammed to a complete halt. "T-Then...?"
He offered her a warm, reassuring smile that instantly cut through her rising panic. "I have good news for you. While it might take some time to createa 100% permanent cure, I’ve already developed a method that will suppress your curse. Meaning... you can finally touch people, walk through crowds, and interact with others."
Her breath caught in her throat. Her purple eyes shimmered with a sudden, overwhelming wave of hope. Part of her anxious mind screamed that it might be a bluff, but her soul desperately wanted to believe him.
Eren gestured toward the expensive plate of pastries sitting between them. "Now, pick your fork back up and finish your dessert."
Violet offered a cute, reluctant little pout, her lower lip twitching. "I... I don’t think my stomach can handle sugar right now..."
"Eat," he ordered softly. "I’m not letting my hard-earned currency go to waste, and I explain complex medical diagnostics much better when my patient isn’t actively starving herself."
Sniffling gently and wiping a lingering tear from her cheek, Violet reluctantly picked her fork back up. But the moment the rich, velvety cream hit her tongue, her sweet tooth instantly took control, and she began happily munching away again. The tear tracks were still visible on her pink cheeks.
"So," Eren began, folding his arms on the table. "I had a suspicion from the very first day we met. I suddenly casted a spell for the first time on that day."
Violet paused mid-bite, her eyes lighting up. "Oh! But... wait, how did you do that? Everyone knows that you were completely talentless with zero magic capacity, yet you somehow threw a massive tantrum to get admitted into the magic combat division anyway..."
Eren stopped, giving her an icy, deadpan stare.
Realizing what she had just blurted out, the purple cutie instantly paled and bit her tongue, grinning as adorably and sheepishly as humanly possible before quickly shoving another piece of pastry into her mouth to shut herself up.
Eren let out an amused huff, letting her slide. "As I was saying... my body normally can’t create mana. However, I can use magic now—under one very specific condition."
"What condition?" Violet asked around her fork, her curiosity completely piqued.
"You," Eren replied simply, pointing a finger directly at her. "I need to be in close physical proximity to you. When I’m near you, I can even use mana, even for a short duration after I leave your side."
Violet froze, her mind struggling to process the dynamic. "M-Me...? But... how does that even work?"
Eren pulled her notebook closer, tapping a neatly drawn diagram of a human mana-circuit. "It comes down to biological mechanics. Normally, a human body constantly generates mana, while simultaneously venting tiny, involuntary micro-bursts of excess energy into the atmosphere to keep the internal circulation fresh and healthy."
Violet nodded eagerly, her academic brain kicking in. "Right! I remember learning about mana-respiration in classes! But how does that relate to what’s happening to me?"
Eren tapped the center of the diagram with his pen. "Because your condition is the exact opposite of a blockage. You aren’t storing it—you are aggressively, uncontrollably venting a huge reservoir of mana into the surrounding atmosphere at nearly ten times the rate of a normal human being."
"Ten times...?"
"Precisely," Eren continued. "That three feet radius isn’t a cursed aura, Violet. It’s simply the zone where your vented mana is at its peak concentration before it eventually dissipates into the air. When a normal person steps inside that radius, their mana-respiration system gets forcefully flooded by your massive, foreign mana. Their circuits can’t handle the sudden pressure, causing them to fall unconscious."
Violet swallowed hard, the pieces finally falling into place in her mind. "T-Then... how can you and Alice stand right next to me without collapsing? And why isn’t anyone passing out right now while I’m sitting across from you?"
"Because Alice possesses a hyper-dense, holy-attribute mana pool that acts as an immovable shield," Eren explained, a sly smirk playing on his lips. "And as for me? My body doesn’t just block your excess mana, Violet—it actively devours it. I am literally a storage for your internal overpressure."
Before Violet could fully absorb the miraculous weight of his words, a cold, melodious female voice suddenly cut through the ambient noise of the cafeteria.
"My, my... isn’t this an intriguing sight? Lord Eren Volsver."
Eren turned his head casually to see a small group of three upper class noble girls suddenly halting their steps. At the center stood a breathtaking beauty with blue hair and sharp, golden eyes—Aria, his official fiancée.
The moment her gaze swept over the quiet corner table, taking in the expensive assortment of luxury pastries Eren had bought, her eyes narrowed into an icy slit.
Violet instantly paled, her entire body stiffening in panic.
"Good afternoon, Aria," Eren greeted, completely unfazed as he offered his fiancée a calm, perfectly composed smile.
Behind Aria, her two noble friends immediately began whispering, their eyes darting between Eren and the terrified purple-haired girl.
"Wait... why is Lord Eren sitting tucked away in a corner with her?" one of them muttered under her breath. "And he bought her luxury pastries...?"
"I heard rumors that he had completely changed his ways," the second girl whispered back, her tone laced with sharp judgment. "Is he really no different from that disgraced Reinhardt after all? Flaunting another girl right in front of his fiancée?"
Aria didn’t care about them. Her eyes locked on Eren. "You two may go ahead to our reserved table. I need to have a private word with my fiancé."
