Chapter 425 - 424- Teleportation array
"What is that token?"
Even Grey was surprised when he saw the expressions of the cultivators suddenly change. The moment the attendants caught sight of the token in the young girl’s hand, their previously indifferent attitudes vanished, replaced by obvious respect as they immediately began attending to the two of them.
The people waiting in the queue behind them were equally stunned.
Gasps and cries of disbelief quickly erupted from the crowd.
"What?!"
"No way! Why are you attending to them first? We’ve been waiting here for so long!"
"What kind of token is that?"
"Why are they being given priority?"
"Even cultivators have to follow the rules here! How can they just cut the entire line?"
Similar complaints rang out one after another, the voices growing increasingly indignant.
Grey, however, paid little attention to them. He simply turned his head and looked at the young girl beside him.
"Why is your token causing such an uproar?" Grey asked calmly.
The young girl couldn’t help but reveal a gentle smile.
It was a smile capable of melting even the coldest snow.
Unfortunately for her, Grey merely looked at her in silence.
There wasn’t even the slightest change in his expression.
The young girl was momentarily stunned.
Then, seeing that her smile had failed to produce any reaction from him, she couldn’t help but feel slightly amused.
"Eldest Brother Grey, this token is a gift from my master," she explained respectfully. "As long as we have it, we’ll be able to use any teleportation rune under the Sect’s jurisdiction for free, even if the teleportation array is located outside this region."
She paused briefly before continuing.
"Moreover, the attendants are required to prioritize us and prepare the teleportation array as quickly as possible."
Grey’s expression remained calm, but his heart stirred slightly.
So that was the reason.
The authority contained within this seemingly ordinary token was far greater than he had initially imagined.
The only people within the Sect who possessed enough authority to receive such treatment were the Elders and the Sect Master.
For the attendants stationed here, obeying the holder of this token was essentially no different from obeying an Elder who had personally descended upon the teleportation station.
This also meant that the young girl’s status within the Sect was far from ordinary.
Grey’s eyes flickered subtly.
Once again, he couldn’t help but wonder about her relationship with the Sequence Elder.
Just what kind of relationship did she have with that mysterious old monster?
Even Core Disciples of the Sect might not possess such authority.
Yet this young girl could casually take out a token and make everyone here treat her with the same respect they would show an Elder.
Grey found the matter increasingly intriguing.
However, he didn’t ask any further questions.
If the young girl wanted him to know, she would naturally tell him eventually.
After a short while, the attendants finally finished calibrating the teleportation array.
The intricate patterns carved into the ground began to glow faintly, and a powerful spatial fluctuation gradually spread through the area.
The young girl immediately turned toward Grey.
She reached out and gently grabbed his hand.
"Let’s go, Eldest Brother Grey."
Her voice was soft and pleasant.
As she spoke, the cloak that had concealed her face slipped slightly to the side.
Her beautiful features were revealed completely to everyone present.
For an instant, the entire teleportation station fell silent.
The cultivators who had been complaining only moments ago suddenly stopped talking.
Their expressions froze.
Even those who had been glaring at Grey and the young girl in dissatisfaction were now staring blankly at the young girl.
Her appearance was simply too stunning.
It was as though the entire world had momentarily lost its color the instant she revealed her face.
Some of the younger cultivators stared with their mouths slightly open, while others hurriedly looked away after realizing that they had been staring for too long.
Even the previously furious crowd had completely forgotten about their complaints.
"..."
Grey remained indifferent to the commotion.
The young girl, however, seemed completely accustomed to such reactions.
She simply pulled Grey along and stepped into the already-active teleportation array.
The attendants immediately bowed slightly.
"Safe travels."
Their voices were filled with respect.
The next moment, the dazzling light of the teleportation array erupted.
Space seemed to distort around the two figures.
In the blink of an eye, Grey and the young girl disappeared into the brilliant radiance.
They had already left the city.
---
In a nearby city, the teleportation array suddenly began to shine with an intense brilliance.
The spatial fluctuations grew stronger with every passing second.
The attendants stationed around the array immediately straightened their backs.
Some of them even trembled slightly.
They had already received a message from Sky Mist City.
Someone possessing the authority of an Elder was coming.
For ordinary people and even low-level cultivators, such authority was something they could barely imagine.
The teleportation arrays in these local cities were under the jurisdiction of the nearby Sect. Although the cities had their own City Lords and local authorities, none of them dared to offend someone carrying an Elder’s authority.
To these people, such an individual possessed a status that surpassed almost everyone within the city.
Even the City Lord himself would have to show the utmost respect.
Hence, among the group of attendants standing around the teleportation array was an old man with a slightly hunched back.
His hair had already turned completely white, and deep wrinkles covered his face.
Yet despite his aged appearance, his eyes remained sharp.
He was the City Lord of this place.
An old monster in the Foundation Establishment Realm.
Unfortunately, he was also someone who had reached the end of his cultivation potential.
His lifespan was rapidly approaching its limit.
He knew that he didn’t have much time left.
Because of his Foundation Establishment cultivation, he had been appointed as the City Lord of this local city and had ruled over it for more than fifty years.
During those fifty years, he had watched the city slowly develop.
Under his rule, the city had gradually flourished.
Eventually, it had even been selected by the nearby Sect as one of its teleportation anchors.
To him, that had been one of the greatest honors of his life.
However, despite having served as City Lord for decades, he had never personally encountered anyone who possessed such tremendous authority within the Sect.
This was his first time.
And naturally, he wanted to know exactly what kind of cultivators would be arriving.
More importantly...
Just how powerful were they?
The old man’s eyes contained a faint trace of anticipation.
He had remained trapped in the Foundation Establishment Realm for too many years. At this point, his lifespan was almost exhausted, and his cultivation had long since reached its limit.
If he had no opportunity to advance, death was inevitable.
Therefore, seeing the arrival of cultivators who possessed such authority made him genuinely curious.
Perhaps they were experts from the Sect.
Perhaps they possessed cultivation far beyond his imagination.
He wanted to see them with his own eyes.
A few seconds later, the light within the teleportation array suddenly intensified.
Two figures gradually emerged from within.
Grey and the young girl stepped out of the brilliant light.
Immediately, the attendants surrounding the teleportation array bowed.
"Greetings, esteemed guests."
Their voices were respectful.
However, the old hunched man didn’t immediately speak.
His gaze was fixed on the two figures before him.
The moment he saw the young girl holding onto Grey’s arm, his expression changed slightly.
She looked far too young. Just a little girl.
Yet when he secretly attempted to probe her cultivation base, his expression became even more complicated.
He couldn’t sense anything. It was as though a thick layer of mist completely concealed her cultivation.
This caused his heart to tremble.
As for Grey, his features were concealed beneath his disguise, preventing the old man from seeing his true appearance.
Nevertheless, based on his build and aura, the old man could tell that he was also a young man.
He appeared to be around the same age as the girl beside him.
The old man was immediately flustered.
These were the people he had imagined would possess terrifying cultivation and immense status within the Sect?
Why did they look so young?
He didn’t dare underestimate them.
After all, the cultivation world was filled with countless monsters who possessed extraordinary abilities.
A person’s appearance meant nothing.
Especially when the two of them had arrived with the authority of an Elder.
The old man hesitated for a moment.
Then, as though he had suddenly remembered something, he released his spiritual energy.
A powerful aura surged from his body. The next instant, his figure shot into the sky.
He didn’t even wait for Grey and the young girl to properly leave the teleportation array before taking off.
His body transformed into a streak of white light that rapidly disappeared into the distance.
When Grey finally stepped away from the array, he noticed the white arc fleeing from the area at an astonishing speed.
To ordinary people, the old man’s speed was so fast that it would be difficult to follow him with their eyes.
But to Grey...
It was extremely slow.
His eyes narrowed slightly.
A faint glint flashed through them.
The old man’s sudden departure had naturally attracted his attention.
There was something strange about it.
Why would the City Lord flee immediately after seeing them?
Was he simply in a hurry? Or had he sensed something?
Grey’s divine sense silently spread outward and it swept across the surrounding area.
One hundred meters... Five hundred meters. Very soon, it became thousand meters.
He carefully searched every corner, examining the surrounding buildings, streets, and distant areas.
Nothing.
There was no hidden expert. No strange spatial fluctuation and no concealed killing intent.
Nothing appeared out of place.
After confirming that there was no obvious danger, Grey gradually suppressed the caution in his heart.
He didn’t pursue the old man.
Instead, he calmly turned his attention toward the attendants who were still bowing before him.
The young girl remained beside him, seemingly completely unconcerned by what had happened.
Grey nodded slightly.
"Let’s go."
With that, the two of them calmly left the teleportation array.
Behind them, the attendants remained respectfully bowed until the pair had completely disappeared from their sight.
