Chapter 413 - 412-
Grey and Bao continued talking for several more minutes before Grey finally decided to leave. However, before he departed, Bao repeatedly reminded him to be careful during this period.
Grey did not need to ask why.
He already understood the reason.
There was a very high possibility that he would be attacked by different Heavens’ Chosen at various times.
After all, according to the rumors spreading throughout the city, Grey had effortlessly captured the Heavens’ Chosen from the Bizarre Broken Sect without even breaking a sweat.
Although the truth was far more complicated than the rumors suggested, very few people knew what had actually happened. To most people, Grey’s actions were nothing short of astonishing.
He had captured a Heavens’ Chosen with overwhelming ease.
Naturally, anyone who heard such a rumor would assume that Grey was an extremely powerful individual with considerable strength. And because of that, he would inevitably become the first target for many of the other Heavens’ Chosen.
They would want to challenge him and defeat him.
And, most importantly, they would want to use his defeat to establish their own reputation.
For the Heavens’ Chosen, glory was often just as important as strength. Defeating someone who had recently gained a reputation for being powerful would undoubtedly bring them considerable fame.
Thankfully, not many people knew what Grey actually looked like.
Most people only knew that he worked as a Vice-Captain within the Detective Agency Department. They did not know his face, his exact identity, or even his name in many cases.
Therefore, the various Heavens’ Chosen had been constantly raiding and challenging the Captains and Vice-Captains of the Detective Agency Department.
Grey could already imagine the chaos that would erupt when they eventually discovered his true identity.
It was only a matter of time before one of those Heavens’ Chosen sent a challenge to their particular building.
When that happened, Grey would inevitably be forced into a difficult situation.
If he fought, there was a chance that he would have to reveal some of his trump cards.
And if there was one thing Grey disliked, it was revealing his true strength unnecessarily.
The more people knew about him, the more dangerous his situation would become.
This was also the primary reason Grey had hurriedly gone to retrieve his Magic Ship from Bao.
Remaining within the Detective Agency Department would only bring him unnecessary trouble. There was no reason for him to remain there and wait for trouble to come knocking on his door.
Staying aboard his Magic Ship at the harbor, on the other hand, would make him far less conspicuous.
At least, that was what Grey hoped.
With his decision made, Grey left the Transportation Department and stepped into the bustling streets of the city.
He wore a dark coat that concealed most of his body, while a hood was pulled over his head, casting his face into shadow and preventing the light from clearly revealing his features.
His appearance was deliberately ordinary.
There was nothing about him that would immediately attract attention.
Grey quietly joined the endless flow of people moving through the streets. The city was as lively as ever, with cultivators and ordinary people alike constantly moving from one place to another.
The streets were filled with noise.
Voices overlapped with one another, merchants called out to potential customers, and the occasional carriage or Magic Artifact moved through the crowded roads.
Grey paid little attention to any of it as his mind was already focused on his next destination.
The Detective Agency Department.
Before completely leaving the area, he needed to retrieve some of his belongings. More importantly, he needed to inform Violet about his decision.
He did not want to simply disappear without saying anything.
After following the flow of people for some time, Grey eventually arrived at the Detective Agency Department.
He entered the building without attracting any unnecessary attention and quickly made his way toward his office.
The moment he arrived, Grey immediately began packing some of his belongings.
He did not have much to take with him.
Most of the things he needed were already stored within his storage artifact, and the rest were insignificant enough to leave behind.
Still, he carefully checked the room one final time.
He did not want to accidentally leave behind anything important.
Once he was satisfied, Grey sent a Voice Transmission to Violet, informing her of his departure and briefly explaining his decision.
He did not go into too much detail.
There was no need.
Violet was intelligent enough to understand the situation.
After sending the Voice Transmission, Grey did not waste any more time. He quickly left his office and made his way out of the Detective Agency Department.
He had barely traveled a short distance, however, when a faint fluctuation suddenly came from the Jade Slip he carried with him.
Grey’s footsteps came to a halt. His brows rose slightly.
A Voice Transmission?
He immediately reached for the Jade Slip and infused it with his Spiritual Sense.
The moment he sensed the aura of the sender, Grey’s expression changed slightly.
The person who had contacted him was not a stranger.
It was an acquaintance.
An acquaintance he had not seen for a very long time.
For a brief moment, Grey stood silently in the middle of the busy street, his expression becoming somewhat strange.
He had not expected to receive a Voice Transmission from this person at all.
In fact, he had almost forgotten about them.
Almost.
Grey stared at the Jade Slip in his hand for several seconds before his eyes narrowed slightly.
What could they possibly want from him And more importantly... Why contact him now?
Grey stared at the Jade Slip in his hand for several long seconds before finally deciding to reply.
The content of the Voice Transmission was simple.
Zayne wanted to meet him at a particular location.
Although Grey was immediately suspicious of the request, he did not reject it outright. It had been a very long time since he had last seen Zayne, and there was no way to know what had happened to him during those years.
More importantly, there was no reason for Zayne to suddenly seek him out after such a long period of silence unless something had happened.
Grey lowered the Jade Slip and fell into thought.
His gaze unconsciously drifted toward his shadow.
The dark silhouette beneath his feet seemed completely ordinary at first glance. Yet Grey knew better than anyone that there was something deeply abnormal about it.
He also recalled the poison he had concocted a few days ago.
Although he had yet to test it in an actual battle, Grey was confident in its potency. Even if the poison could not kill his opponent outright, it would certainly give him an advantage.
Then there were his other hidden abilities.
The various trump cards he had accumulated over the years.
His new magic ship, his poison and the shadow.
And the other abilities he had deliberately kept concealed from the eyes of others.
Grey silently calculated his chances.
Even if Zayne had some ulterior motive, Grey was confident that he could escape if the situation became dangerous.
After considering everything carefully, Grey eventually decided to show up.
There was no point in being overly cautious. Besides, he was somewhat curious.
What exactly did Zayne want from him?
The meeting place was none other than the crowded Market District.
However, when Grey arrived at the location provided in the Voice Transmission, he discovered that Zayne had not chosen a street, a restaurant, or even a secluded café.
Instead, the meeting place was on top of an inconspicuous building.
Grey’s eyes narrowed slightly when he received this information.
His Spiritual Sense swept across the surroundings, carefully examining the area.
Nothing seemed out of place. There were no obvious signs of an ambush.
Still, Grey remained cautious.
