Chapter 371: The Angel and the Corpse
The Dragon raised its head, letting out an arrogant puff, before its body transformed into a thick black sludge.
The dragon shaped sludge slowly lost its form, allowing its rider to simply glide down to the ground before the sludge crawled into his shadow and finally vanished.
Ren glanced at Elise as she stood there, not hiding the slight disgust on her face at his magic. It was always like that. Necromancy was not designed to be pretty, it was designed to be overwhelming in its power, and he achieved that without fail.
What else did he have to care about other than that?
"How did the raid go? Any issues?" Elise asked the arrogant undead as he strode past her.
"Ask Bird boy." He simply grunted in response and pushed past her, a thick black cloud of irritation hanging over his head as he stormed off like a petulant teenager.
As if hearing his cue, a few luminescent white feathers drifted softly to the ground around Elise. A few of them touched against her shoulders or floated into her, and immediately burst into a tiny shimmering ball of light.
The ball was eagerly absorbed into her body, bringing with it a sense of relaxation and pleasure as the slight energy deficit she had gained from her training was washed away, as well as her mental stress.
Her eyes drifted upwards, a soft smile on her face, as an angel descended from above.
With his Demonic fiance in his arms, carrying her like a delicate princess, Jason descended through the air on wings of pure light.
Every gentle flap sent a few more feathers drifting downwards, which he thankfully did not need to fly and were only a part of the skill.
When he landed, he did so with a sigh at his comrades dismissive behaviour, before placing Lucy down and dismissing his wings, which promptly faded into twinkling stardust.
Naturally, this was a skill that he had gained when he had achieved the rank of ’Wing’ as a reward from his God.
When Jason had stabbed the dagger into the core of the Siege of Infernus, which had been located at the very back of the final treasure chamber, he had completely altered the dungeon from that moment on.
The beasts that were previously enslaved were set free and no longer appeared at any point within the dungeon, except for one singular floor. That being the fifth floor, the entirety of which had become a hellscape, pun intended, of Lizard based traps, as well as the home of a Roaming Mini Boss, the Magma Wyrm.
A colossal serpentine creature that had a body made out of lava with scales of volcanic rock. It was the evolved form of the Lava Snakes that had tried to eat Belladonna for breakfast when she went diving for treasure.
That creature along was responsible for wiping out hundreds of parties, as it was prone to ambushing parties when they were at their most vulnerable and was never found in the same place twice.
It was a nightmare, and completely put the fear of Beasts back into the minds of those who thought that they could enslave them.
Of course the players had no idea that Jason was responsible for this. Instead they just believed that they had done something to unlock a ’hard mode’ for the dungeon and were spending a lot of time in other dungeons trying to unlock the same, as well as trying to beat the new ’Hard Mode’.
Jason was happy with his promotion however. Not only did he get actual wings, to go along with his title, but they came with additional benefits to healing and defence.
Plus he could fly. That was good enough on its own.
"Pfft. What crawled up his butt and died?" Elise scoffed, giving Ren the stink eye as he stropped away.
"Ah, He’s just in a mood because we still haven’t found the reason for all the portals. Still, this one wasn’t so bad. Just a little baby one, barely a threat since we got there so fast. But I think being so close kinda got to him a little." Jason replied with a sympathetic smile, as Lucy wandered off to go get herself some food.
"Oh, Hey. How did the new perception spell set up go? Did it work alright?" Elise asked, perking up slightly.
"Haha, Yeah. It worked a treat. It’s gonna be useful for the future, and means we don’t have to drag you around everywhere we go.
Just a shame about how expensive it is... Would be nice to miniaturise it and keep it on hand for stealth missions or something. Or make a big one to cover our island so no one bothers us."
"Yeah... It would. But I’m only the power source, you’ll need to talk to the engineer for that. And she already worked her ass of just getting this one working." Elise laughed.
Jason frowned, glancing over Elise’s shoulder before looking around.
"Where is she anyways? Would have thought she would be the first one to come out and check on her work, and especially to say ’I told you so’. Not that I miss the second one all that much."
"Where do you think?" Elise replied with a chuckle as she turned back towards the house, "She has barely left that gym for the last week. It’s starting to stink."
"Of course... I should have known." Jason sighed, strolling towards the house alongside Elise.
"Oh, by the way. A delivery drone came by for you whilst you guys were away. I’m not naming any names but someone, whose name rhymes with ’Vivian’, opened it. He says he thought it was from his girlfriend."
"What? The definitely real one that he met on Worldcraft that no one else has ever met or heard from?"
"Yeah, that one. It was some invitation to a party or something like that."
"A party? Who would be inviting us to a party?" Jason scoffed and shook his head, as they left the green paradise and headed inside the guild house.
