Three days later, early in the morning, Mogiana, looking refreshed and radiant, personally saw Laine and Surya off.

Surya’s face was bright and captivating, while Laine’s complexion looked decent enough.

After leaving the Lake Fairy Tower, Laine took a whole day to rest and finally felt much better.

Laine always felt that since returning this time, it seemed even Surya had become more clingy. The female knight was now with him all the time, but the Count could understand a little. As a lady, Surya still didn’t have an heir, which was intolerable for her, especially since Amelia was already expecting.

The noble court was darker and more ruthless than one might imagine. Without a qualified heir, Surya’s position as a lady wasn’t entirely secure.

Thinking of the little maid, Laine felt a bit worried. He didn’t know how Amelia was doing now. He had sent Baron Devon Hex to Brunswick and Nuer, delivering his personally signed recognition, acknowledging that he was the father of the child in Amelia’s belly, along with a jar of berry wine and a bottle of diluted Water of Life.

The diluted Water of Life was something he obtained when attending that dark salon in Marinburg, and the berry wine was a gesture of apology from the Wood Elves regarding the betrayal of Mogiana. At that time, Divine Champion Alaros the Brave and Female Prophet Lifer of the Wood Elf Queen Airel brought four jars of berry wine. Laine drank one jar during his champion duel with Egil, leaving three jars.

Regarding this matter, Laine had asked the Lake Fairy, who assured him that the Water of Life and berry wine would certainly benefit Amelia’s health.

As for whether to go to Nuer... Laine decided to heed Gailte’s advice.

It’s not the right time. Right now, Amelia is wrestling with the Imperial Council to regain her Prince-Elector position. Laine’s appearance would cause too many changes, providing Amelia’s political enemies with an excuse to attack her.

Laine would only go to Nuer once the dust settled.

For now, all he could do was wait for the result.

Meanwhile, taking advantage of the preparation for war, Laine was planning his next step.

And that was to audit and reform all the Churches within his domain.

Unknowingly, time had moved into June.

The climate was getting hotter, with the summer sun scorching the land. Brittania’s summer wasn’t as hot as Estalia’s or Tiriel’s, so the peasants could still continue their work, and the Master Knights carried on with their training.

Inside Count Glamorgan’s winery, the air conditioning was on.

In the dining room, Laine, Surya, and Sylvia were enjoying breakfast together.

"Miss, would you like some more milk?" Sylvia, dressed in a standard maid uniform with a headscarf and apron on her golden hair, asked, her face stern as the Head Maid. She also asked, "Lord Laine, would you like some as well?"

"I’ve told you, Sylvia, you can just call me Laine after this," Laine said, holding a soft and tasty cream bread, once again correcting Sylvia’s mistake: "We’re family, after all. It’s fine outside, but calling me Lord Laine at home feels a bit distant, doesn’t it?"

"Rules are rules! Even if you are the missus’ husband, every rule must still be followed!" Sylvia, seeing Laine looking at her, blushed for some inexplicable reason on her noble face, quickly looked away, and said firmly, "You are the master, I am the servant. I am the missus’ maid; of course, I should call you Lord Laine."

Laine felt helpless with Sylvia, whose temper was as hard as a rock.

The Count himself was a bit unhappy, he smiled wryly, shook his head, and stopped speaking.

Sylvia thought Laine had given up on this issue, but as the lady, Surya immediately noticed the change in Laine’s emotions, and the female knight spoke up: "Sylvie (Sylvia’s nickname), who is the Count of these lands?"

"Of course, it’s Lord Laine," the maid answered without hesitation.

"And at home, who is the head of the family?" Surya continued smiling as she asked.

Sylvia now understood what Surya meant and hung her head, "But I am the missus’ maid..."

"You are the maid of both of us, my orders are the same as Laine’s," Surya went on to say, elegantly running her fingers through her hip-length golden curls: "Do you understand?"

Sylvia didn’t answer again, she was just silent.

Laine knew Sylvia had listened, but she was just like that, and said no more. He turned to Surya instead, saying: "Surya, let’s set off once breakfast is over."

"Okay," the female knight nodded, and Laine and Surya planned that today they would visit a runaway slave who fled to Laine from Leonais: "Sylvie, you’ll be coming with us, right?"

"But..." Sylvia was still hesitating. Faced with Surya’s gaze, Sylvia eventually agreed, "I understand."

Fifteen minutes later, breakfast was over, and everyone was ready to head out. As they were in town, Laine didn’t bring too many people with him—he, Surya, Sylvia, and the newly appointed Ranger Knight Juan were all that made up the group for this visit.

Inside the winery’s cloakroom.
