Chapter 688 - 687: The First Rule of Wife-Chasing (31)
This request put Bella in a bit of a bind.
It wasn’t because she was worried the old man had any bad intentions; it just felt like she was overly concerned with Damian’s company’s affairs.
This conflicted somewhat with her intention to maintain distance and draw a clear line with Damian.
But it seemed like they hadn’t really drawn that line anyway—her daughter was still calling him "Dad" and following him closely.
Bella sighed almost imperceptibly.
The old man heard it and said, "Young Acker, if this makes you uncomfortable..." But could you be so kind as to take me home?
Before he could express what was truly on his mind, Bella was already shaking her head with a smile. "No, I’m just worried about your health. How about we go to the hospital for a check-up first, and then I’ll take you home. How does that sound?"
"I know my own body best; no need for a check-up. I’m fine; just taking me home will do," the old man said as another elevator arrived on the second floor, "Young Acker, the elevator is here. Let’s go."
"Okay. If you feel unwell, just let me know." Bella nodded.
The elevator doors opened, and the two walked inside. Judy Zimmerman happened to be in there too.
Outside the elevator, the neglected responsible person was left speechless: "..."
"Bella, why are you on the second floor?" Judy immediately moved to Bella’s side, using her eyes to inquire who the old man next to her was.
"I’ll explain later."
When the elevator reached the basement level, Bella helped the old man out while Judy went ahead to find the car and opened the door.
"Take it slow, sir," Bella said, helping the old man get into the car first.
Judy said, "Bella, this..."
Once the old man was seated, Bella said, "I encountered an elevator malfunction on my way down, and this old man was with me. We’re taking him home first."
"Were you hurt?" Judy gasped.
"I’m fine. It’s just that the old man is elderly, and it’s better to avoid frightening him." Bella sighed. If anything happened to the old man, even if Kingston Group settled it, it would still cause some unpleasant news.
Judy nodded, "Alright, let’s take him home first."
In the car, the old man took out his phone and made a call, "Old Zhang, can I borrow your house for a bit? You’d better leave your house and stay at mine. Put the keys under the flowerpot by the door. Got it? Okay, leave now. I’m heading over. I’ll talk to you later."
Seeing Bella about to get in the car, the old man hurriedly hung up the phone.
Bella got in and saw the old man clutching an iPhone 6. She smiled but said nothing.
The old man patted his phone and said, "This is the phone my grandson gave me. I told him not to waste money and to save it for his wedding, but he wouldn’t listen. Young Acker, you’re young, you know these things. Is this phone really only 360 dollars?"
360? That number reversed and with an extra zero added on would be closer to the truth.
Who would have thought the old man’s grandson told this fib to get the old man to accept the phone without worrying? It was quite filial.
Bella nodded, "Yes, that’s about the right price."
"Ah, too expensive. I had a seventy-dollar phone that was better than this one. It was louder and easier to press. My grandson spent half a day teaching me how to use this phone, and I still only learned how to make calls." The old man put the phone away and sighed again.
