Chapter 367 - 209: Demon Attack (2)

The Third Elder flew into a rage at these words. He was about to order the surrounding Demon Hunters to restrain the person before him when suddenly, a dark shadow flew from the connection between Cars 1 and 2, straight toward him.

"Watch out!" Anke blocked the dark shadow with his blade, only to find it was the head of a Demon Hunter.

His pupils contracted the moment he saw the Demon Hunter’s face.

He recognized the Demon Hunter. If memory served, this was the captain of the team sent by the Bertelili Demon Hunter Association.

Anke’s expression changed as if he understood something. Instead of comforting the Third Elder, he shouted to the two Demon Hunter Guards at the entrance to Car 1, "Quick... hold the door!"

It was too late.

The door was pushed open.

Fleeing Old Race and Bloodless surged inside, instantly creating a crush of bodies.

The Old Blood Nobility and Demon Hunters were pushed back again and again by the tide of people. The Demon Hunters’ weapons were difficult to use in such a confined space; deploying them risked accidentally injuring the Old Blood Nobility in the car.

Finally, in a corner, Barbara, being a Wizard, used a Magic Card to erect a barrier. It intercepted the Old Race from the other cars, who had been driven mad with fear, barely managing to create a stalemate.

The situation in Car 1 was now split half and half: one side with the upper echelons of the Old Blood Nobility, the other with the middle-class Old Race and Bloodless.

The Third Elder, fuming, yelled at Anke, "Get this rabble out of here! Throw them out! These bastards are ruining the Medici Clan’s finest Dragon Crystal Hide!"

It wasn’t just the Third Elder. Some of the Old Blood Nobility and upper-class individuals who had paid a fortune to transport their personal collections were also furious:

"My horse! My horse!"

"What happened to my Napoleon painting... What are you rabble doing to my Napoleon painting?"

"Where are my whores... Those are pure-white goods, the kind that sell for an Elf’s price! You rabble... Didn’t I pay you?"

The Old Blood Nobility clamored for the Demon Hunters to drive the rabble out of Car 1.

Anke said with a grim face, "It seems Cars 2 and 3 have been overrun... I can’t reach the Demon Hunters who were guarding them anymore. They’re most likely all dead."

Barbara said, "How could Law Enforcers be killed by the Old Race?"

Anke said, "There’s someone mysterious among the Old Race inciting their emotions, trying to fish in troubled waters..."

"What’s their goal in doing this?" Barbara’s brow furrowed slightly, which only enhanced her beautiful face. "We’re all on the same train. With this fog, danger is everywhere. If things really get out of hand, we’re so far from the city... I fear we won’t be able to handle the Demons."

Anke said, "I don’t know, but it’s definitely not good. Besides, it’s too late to be talking about this now."

"What’s too late?" the Third Elder asked.

"The Demons are here," Anke and Barbara said in unison.

They and the other Demon Hunters in the car looked out the window. Several pairs of giant, demonic eyes were pressed against the glass, staring in at them.

The Old Blood Nobility were all stunned, holding their breath instinctively.

"It’s a Corrosive Demon... the Demons around us are its avatars... No wonder I sensed so many... one of this thing’s Authorities is creating clones."

Anke’s Alchemy Circuits lit up. "All Demon Hunters with more than three years in the Association, with me."

The group opened the car window and plunged into the darkness. Soon, the sounds of battle erupted from the thick fog alongside the train.

At the sound of the fighting, the crowd instantly grew agitated again.

In the commotion, the hood Baron had placed on Vivian to hide her identity was accidentally torn off, exposing the silver hair and beast ears characteristic of someone infected with Demon’s Blood to everyone’s view.

"It’s someone infected with Demon’s Blood... The Demons were probably drawn here because of her... Throw the infected one out! She must be the one who brought this disaster upon us!"

Just as Baron expected, such voices rose from the crowd.

What surprised Baron, however, was that the person who said this wasn’t one of the Old Blood Nobility, but one of the Old Race from their own side of the car.

His gaze quickly locked onto a few people.

They were a few Old Race from Car 9 who knew Vivian’s identity. Among them were a few hidden infected and a few who had instigated the riot.

Vivian’s face instantly turned deathly pale, because those Old Race were actually coming for her.

Her grandfather, Dunbar, tried to protect her but was immediately shoved to the ground by several able-bodied men.

As the men moved toward her, about to grab her, Baron once again blocked their path. "Hey, this feudal superstition business is a nasty business."

The men remained unmoved. Baron shot each one in the head. They still didn’t move—because they were dead.

The sudden gunshots drew everyone’s attention.

While they were still reeling from the shock of an Old Race pulling two guns from his sleeves, another enormous crash echoed!

RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE.

The crowd was split apart.

More accurately, the connection between Car 1 and Car 2 was splitting apart.

A few quick-reacting people managed to jump from Car 2 to Car 1, but most didn’t make it in time.

Amid cries of despair, they, along with Car 2 and the long line of cars behind it, vanished into the darkness.

’Was it a Demon attack?’

But there were no sounds of a fight.

Everyone looked and saw a man in a train worker’s uniform standing where the cars had been connected.

He had pressed some sort of decoupling device and detached Car 2.

Facing the stares of everyone in Car 1, he said, "I was just following orders."

The passengers responded with a flurry of fists and feet.

The Old Blood Nobility might be untouchable, but that didn’t mean he was.

The beaten train worker cried out for help to the Third Elder and the other Old Blood Nobility on the other side of the barrier—the very ones who had given him the order—but they just watched coldly, muttering complaints:

"Such a lawless bunch of peasants."

In the end, he was beaten to death. His body was kicked off the train by the Old Race and the Bloodless, tumbling into the darkness along the tracks.

The surrounding clamor and those demonic eyes faded into the darkness. Wind poured in from the rear of the car, and the crowd huddled together, gasping for breath in the aftermath.

An announcement came over the broadcast system. Up ahead, the conductor was methodically reporting how many miles were left until London and the estimated time of arrival.

Suddenly, the Old Race on one side of the barrier seemed to remember something and looked toward the spot where the gunshots had come from.

Two young men were protecting an old man and a child infected with Demon’s Blood. The leading youth, his face obscured, still held two guns, looking as if he was ready to put a bullet in anyone who dared to press them.

The bodies at their feet were the best proof of that.

"He killed people... That guy killed people..."

"He has a gun... Is he a wanted criminal? So sinful, so sinful. Only a criminal like that would travel with someone tainted by Demon’s Blood..."

Jack looked at the hostile and wary gazes of the people around them and said, "What a headache, L. Didn’t you say you were going to keep your head down and just ride the train to London?"

Baron shrugged. "I don’t know. I surprised myself, too. Maybe it was just instinct."

"Didn’t realize you were such a bleeding-heart, L."

"A good person? Not really."

’In reality, I just can’t stand to see certain things, same as always. The only difference is, compared to before, I have more power now.’

Vivian was a little scared. "Mister... aren’t you afraid of being contaminated by my Demon’s Blood?"

’Whatever. It’s not like I know what I’m contaminated with at this point anyway. Let’s see what’s stronger: your Demon’s Blood, or all the random crap inside me.’

"This is the interest on my help. As payment for killing people for you this time, you still owe me one hundred head-pats."

Baron said casually, looking at the bodies in front of him.

One or two of these people had been hiding in the crowd, fanning the flames. One of them had even posed as a Guard to open the door to Car 1.

’At first, I thought this guy was the mastermind, but looking at him now, he really does seem to be just an ordinary Bloodless... No, wait.’ Baron’s gaze fell on the base of the corpse’s ear. There was a strange rune there.

His gaze moved to the other bodies. Two of them also had the same strange rune in the same place.
