What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?

Chapter 210: There’s Still Assassination Attempts

Olivia was practically staring holes into the two Mortal Goddesses as we stepped off the stage.

She definitely figured out that something happened between the three of us but she probably doesn’t know what exactly it was.

The lunch for us was held in a separate hall where a large circular table had been set up with three chairs.

Obviously they intended for the three of us to dine together but... I don’t see any tables for the Guardians?

I looked around, "Umm... Where are my Guardians supposed to eat?"

The two Mortal Goddesses turned to look at me with an odd look on their faces.

I didn’t get to ask them why they were looking at me like that when Olivia spoke up, "My Lord... We are on duty now."

I turned to her, "You guys haven’t eaten anything since breakfast. What are you even talking about? It’s lunch time now."

"Anything can happen, my Lord. We’ll rotate out for lunch later... But we have to guard you right now."

"I don’t think I need all of you just standing around here twiddling your thumbs. I’ll accept the guarding but you guys can start rotating out for lunch right now."

My Guardians looked at each other, obviously unsure of what they should do.

Diana and Siti also turned to their own Guardians to nod at them.

"You girls can go ahead as well."

"No need for all of you to be here."

Their Guardians also looked at each other before they started discussing who should be rotated out first.

Seeing that, Olivia immediately started organising the others as well to let the others filter out for lunch.

As for me... I went over to the table and joined the two Mortal Goddesses at the table.

Once again... Even though they had set the chairs up so that we were each separated by an equal distance between each of us... The two of them picked up their chairs and moved over to sit beside me.

They were obviously having fun with me...

The remaining Guardians all stood at the edges of the room, all of them watching over us at a distance close enough to rush towards us but far enough not to eavesdrop on us.

Right then, the side door opened and waiters came marching in, each of them holding plates of food in their hands.

If they were surprised to see our new seating arrangements... None of them showed it.

While the waiters were walking over to serve our food, I noted that my Guardians that remained behind were Olivia, Jia Lian, Sergei and Valletta.

I’m assuming they would take their lunch afterwards when the rest returned so I didn’t complain.

Besides... I have other things to worry about in the form of two Mortal Goddesses sitting beside me like it was the most normal thing in the world.

I waited until the waiters placed the first dish in front of us, which was some kind of salad or something with dressing, before speaking to the two women once they had left.

"Can I ask why you two are so insistent on sitting so close? You know people are going to talk about this, right?"

Diana chuckled, "Hehehe~ Don’t worry, I do this all the time with Siti when it was just the two of us. People will just see it as you being dragged along by our shenanigans."

"I mean... They did arrange the chairs far away from each other..."

"And we would always just drag them next to each other anyway. I don’t blame them, they have to assume that we aren’t close or they might risk offending us. We never did tell them to do otherwise anyway."

"Right... I mean... There’s also the issue of me being a guy."

"Pffft... So what? The worst that they can say is that we’re fucking. What are they going to do about that even if it’s true?"

Well... I guess that’s true... Even if the leaders of our countries figured out that we were dating or something... There’s nothing that they can do.

It’s just that it’s already exceedingly rare for Mortal Gods to be in a relationship with another Mortal God to begin with. And it was kind of discouraged because it would very easily lead to international incidents.

Which was why we have these Guardians to serve us and... The expectation that they would also serve as our harem.

"It surely wouldn’t be a good thing to be spread around though... Right?" I pointed out.

Siti shrugged, "I don’t really care what the masses might think of me. I know my friends well enough that this would not bother them. Hmmm? Are you not going to eat that?"

I looked down at the untouched bowl of salad that she was pointing at.

"I don’t like salad," I admitted.

Without even a moment’s hesitation, Siti hooked her fork at the edge of my salad plate and pulled it over to her.

"Your loss~" She chuckled before helping herself to it.

I took a sip of the glass of water on the table before looking around, checking that no one was listening in on us before I whispered to the two women beside me.

"Just checking... Have there ever been assassination attempts on you two?"

Diana poked at her salad idly, "Mmm... I would say that there were attempts... But none to the point that it reached your level, Qing. The both of us awakened pretty early on when the world was still coming to terms with the existence of Mortal Gods so we were immediately placed under protection. No one else aside from other Mortal Gods and our Guardians were able to approach us. My Guardians and the security will always stop any attempt before I was even aware of it."

And as if on cue, I heard the sounds of muffled thumps that sounded like distant gunshots.

The Guardians around the room immediately went on alert but Diana just pointed in the direction of where the sound came from calmly, "Like that."

I blinked at her, then turned to Siti who was still eating her salad like nothing happened.

"You two... Aren’t worried at all? I mean... There’s shooting happening outside right now, you know?"

Siti turned to tilt her head at me, "We got used to it. I admit it was a little scary the first few times but after like the tenth time it happened, I just treat it like background noise."

I sucked in a breath, "I don’t think I’ve had any other attempts on me aside from that one time though..."

Diana hummed, "That was a pretty big deal by itself, you know? I don’t think there was another case of a Mortal God coming so close to being assassinated through... Well... Mortal means."

Siti moved her empty plate aside to move my salad plate over to take its place, "That’s not true. There was that Mortal God in ECL who was almost killed by a terrorist attack, wasn’t it? They weren’t even newly awakened too and that event shook the entire region for quite some time."

I think I heard about that before. Apparently the council then decided to lock down the entire ECL region because the attacker was a foreigner revealed to be a foreign spy and no one could enter their territory for almost half a year.

They then went ahead to do a ’cleansing’ of their territory and I would rather not say what they did exactly but... Quite a lot of people died during that half a year I would say.

The Mortal God that was almost killed basically went on a righteous crusade and... Yeah, that’s all I would say in regards to that matter.

I think that’s why most people were basically holding their breaths during the first week or so after that attempted assassination attempt on me. They were probably thinking I might do the same as that guy.

Well, I wasn’t going to just go on a rampage and start killing random people so I never thought about doing that.

That was when I suddenly realised a specific term they mentioned.

"You... said through ’mortal means’?"

Before either of them could even answer, there was the sound of something tearing apart and I looked up to see someone crashing through the ceiling while holding two swords in their hands, their face hidden by a dark cloak that covered their entire body.

The swords in their hands were glowing with a sickly green light and I’m pretty sure getting cut by those blades was not something that I would enjoy.

I was just getting ready to grab them with my floating arms when the shadows around me rose up like tentacles to wrap themselves around the guy, locking him in place.

Right after that, the water from the pitcher on the table suddenly formed into a spike and pierced through the guy’s torso, killing them instantly.

I looked to the side to see one of Diana’s Guardians with her hand outstretched towards us, no doubt the person behind this.

And of course, the shadow tentacles were because of Sergei.

Despite all this, Siti and Diana just continued eating like nothing happened.

Are you two... Really alright?
