Chapter 969: Others Want Information Too
The guy asked quite a lot of questions but I guess it’s to be expected since they were technically planning to go challenge a job that apparently had a high mortality rate.
He asked me about the type of bugs we encountered, the tunnels, their perceived intelligence, their tactics, the mutated type bugs, the weather and even their attack patterns.
I thought the last part was a dumb question to ask until I realised that those mutated bugs actually had patterns of attack like trying to sneak attack from the darkness or charging straight in from the very start of the engagement.
Apparently knowing these things would determine how they would handle how they would engage with the bugs as well.
Since they were planning to pay me quite well, I did my best to give him all the information he asked for as well.
Honestly, pretty smart of them to offer a percentage of their earnings because that would make me invested in their success instead of seeing them as competition to ensure the information I gave them was reliable.
After I answered all his questions, he pulled back his personal terminal that he had been using to record our conversation and looked like he was considering something before looking up at me again.
"We appreciate the help you have given us, Tera. I would like to offer one other thing, however. Would you like to join us on our raid of the nest?"
I raised an eyebrow at him, "I already said I’m not joining you guys though?"
"It’s not as an invitation to join, just to accompany us. We would even split part of the reward with you as well. I think it would be good that we have a guide at least on the first expedition."
I raised an eyebrow, "I thought you guys work alone?"
"It’s not an actual rule in our group that prevents us from working with other people. We just don’t take in others because they are mostly incompetent and a burden. We have no interest in allowing others to just ride along with us and take part of the credit themselves."
"I suppose that since you know my group can clear out a nest on our own..."
"That you will not be a burden but a genuine asset instead. We would not mind working alongside you for a higher chance at success."
That’s admirable I suppose. I thought these people might be the kind of stuck up, self important Mercs who would use their ranks to lord over you and act like they have some kind of power over lower ranking Mercs.
I guess there’s a reason why this group has that much respect amongst the Mercenary community.
"I will have to talk to my group members... And we intend to take a break here before we return to Xetarva."
He nodded, "There’s no issue. I am also waiting for the rest of my strike team to arrive. We will keep in touch. That is, if you are interested to join us, of course."
This might be a good chance to see how the pros work so I don’t mind.
I mean... Not that we aren’t pros I guess but... I think we’re more like cheaters if you ask me... What other Mercenary company has three Psionics on their roster, after all?
So seeing some pros in action might be an interesting experience too.
I nodded at him, "I will talk to my team today and contact you with our answer."
He then tapped on his personal terminal and my Codex let out a beep.
"That’s my contact info. Drop me a message over what you have decided. Even if you decide not to follow us, the initial offer still stands."
I checked my Codex to see that he has sent me his contact details and I would be able to call him through that.
He then nodded at the door, indicating that I should leave now.
At first, I thought it was just because he did not want to get close to me with the dog even if he seemed to be not fearful of it.
But then I stepped outside and the doors slid closed behind me with a soft click, locking him inside the meeting room.
I’m guessing he’s going to use the room to contact his team mates to update them about what I told him. Since the room was supposed to be sound proof and everything after all, it would be stupid not to use it.
I stepped into the lift and brought up my Codex, sending a quick message to the girls to let them know about what happened and that we would discuss this later after we meet again.
The lift reached the ground floor and I stepped out with Freyja following me by my side, only to stop when I realised that a whole bunch of people were standing in front of the lift.
"There she is!!"
"She’s the one!!"
"Tera of Teran Mercenary Company!! Could we have a moment?!"
"Miss Tera! I represent the Azure Raiders! We would like to buy some information from you!"
"Tera! Are you going back to clear more bug nests?! Do you need more people? My crew would like to join you!"
"Tera! Step on me!"
What the heck? I guess news got out about me and now they figured they want to buy information as well?
I am definitely not good enough to handle this...
It looked like they were going to press forward and try to converge on me when a low growl came from my side.
All of them finally noticed my cute doggo growling at them, with her shoulders hunched like she was preparing to pounce, her eyes glaring at the group of Mercs in front of me.
The reaction was pretty dramatic as several Mercs ended up falling over on their butts and scrambling away while the others took several steps back while keeping their eyes on Freyja fearfully.
Right then, I got a notification on my Codex and I realised that it was a message from Vier.
’You already sold information? I’m afraid you might have been given a deal for less than what it’s worth, Tera. If there’s anyone else looking for more information, tell them that we will be selling it on the GalaNet and get them to buy it from there. I’ll deal with it. Please bring me along next time you are doing business. I would feel very motivated if you were there with me and I’d get us a better deal.’
Ah.
I guess I should have called up Vier when I was dealing with that Kale guy earlier... Now I’m wondering if the deal I got from him was even worth it... Though the last part... Right, I shall keep that in mind.
At least we still have the cooperation deal later which I could still potentially get some benefits back for us if it turned out I got shortchanged for the information.
I looked up at the gathered Mercs who were still standing around in front of me, which I think were still there more because they were too afraid to move away from Freyja lest she pounced on them.
I cleared my throat, getting their attention and the other Mercs who were hiding behind their chairs.
"We’ll be selling the information on the GalaNet so you can purchase the information from there. It should be up within the next few minutes I believe."
Even though I told them that it would only be up in the next few minutes, several of them had already pulled out their personal terminal and started searching for it.
Since I’ve already delivered that information, I walked past them to start looking for my actual purpose here, which was finding a hustle for us to do while we take a break from bug hunting.
Sure, there’s the offer from the Reapers but if I find a better job to do at this time, then I might as well go with that.
Besides... He did say that he’s waiting for his strike team to arrive and who knows how long that was going to take? Could even take a week for all we know and in that time, we could have done a few hustles.
I checked on the local terminal to see if there were any hustles worth taking which might pay a lot and also didn’t require too much effort to complete.
I went ahead to search for hustles that were located within this station and did not require us to leave the place and realised there were actually quite a number of them.
I don’t know if I should be surprised but... Most of them were basically hustles that required someone to get killed as the mission objective.
Hmm.... I think some of these are easy enough to do so... Maybe I’ll just note them down and see what my girls think?
