Chapter 124 Veyra’s Trump Card
The room was tense.
Xiomara stood with her arms crossed, her chin lifted, her eyes blazing. She had just threatened Veyra. She had said she would not let the matter rest.
Veyra looked at her. Then she started to clap.
Slowly and deliberately which made the sound echoed off the walls.
"Bravo," Veyra said. "That was a wonderful performance."
Xiomara’s face went red. "What are you doing?"
"I’m applauding your acting skills. You should be on a stage. You’re wasted in real life."
Xiomara’s mouth opened once again, closed and opened again.
"You’re mocking me," she said.
"I’m stating a fact." Veyra’s voice was flat. "You walked in here with tears in your eyes. You played the victim. You made it sound like I attacked you for no reason."
Xiomara’s hands curled into fists. "I didn’t play anything. You hit me."
"You insulted my husband."
"That doesn’t give you the right—"
"It gives me every right." Veyra stepped closer. . "You called him a bodyguard. A hired hand. You made it sound like I settled for less.”
Xiomara’s face was pale. "I didn’t know who he was."
"Does that make it any better?"
Xiomara said nothing.
Veyra shook her head. "You’re pathetic. You come in here, demanding an apology, playing the victim. But you’re not the victim. You’re the bully. You’ve always been the bully."
Professor Sterling’s face was red. His hands were shaking.
"Wesley," he said. "This is going too far."
Wesley looked at him. His voice was calm. "Is it?"
"Your guest is mocking my student. She’s insulting her in front of everyone."
"She’s telling the truth."
Professor Sterling’s eyes widened. "Excuse me?"
"She’s telling the truth. Xiomara insulted her husband. She was wrong. And now she’s refusing to apologize."
Professor Sterling stepped forward. His voice was loud. "Wesley, you are going too far."
Wesley smiled. It was a cold smile.
"Even if I am," he said. "What are you going to do about it?"
Professor Sterling’s face went pale.
Wesley leaned back in his chair. His voice was pleasant.
"You came into my private dining room uninvited. You interrupted my dinner. You demanded an explanation. And now you’re threatening me."
Professor Sterling’s hands were shaking. "I have connections. I have influence. I can make things very difficult for you."
Wesley laughed. "You think I’m afraid of your connections?"
"I’m warning you—"
"Warn me all you want." Wesley’s voice was ice. "But remember. You’re in my restaurant. You’re surrounded by my people. And you’re insulting my friends."
Professor Sterling’s mouth went wide open in shock.
He was trapped.
Wesley’s voice was flat. "If you have a problem with me, you can take it up with me but not with my guests."
Professor Sterling’s face was pale. He looked at Xiomara. Then at Caspian. Then at Veyra.
He was running out of options.
"This isn’t over," he said.
Wesley smiled. "I know it’s not. But it’s over for tonight."
Professor Sterling turned to leave.
Veyra watched Professor Sterling turn toward the door.
She knew what was going to happen. He was going to leave. He was going to tell everyone about the humiliation. He was going to spread rumors about Veyra and Wesley and the Ravenwood Syndicate.
She did not want that.
She stepped forward.
"Professor Sterling," she said. "Wait."
He stopped but he did not turn around.
"I have something to say."
He turned. His face was cold. "I don’t want to hear anything from you."
"Then maybe you should have thought about that before you brought her here."
Professor Sterling’s jaw tightened.
Veyra reached into her bag. She pulled out her phone.
"You want to know the truth?" she asked. "I’ll show you the truth."
She held up the phone and her thumb moved across the screen.
Then to everyone’s shock and surprise she played a pre-prepared recording.
