Chapter 1258: The Solitary Qilin Immortal
“I suppose Junior Brother Dai has been overworked for too long, leaving him physically and mentally exhausted. A period of rest will do him good. Little Junior Brother, you shouldn’t visit him. Let him recuperate in peace.”
Lu Yang was tempted to say, “Big Senior Sister, could it be that you had frightened Senior Brother Dai?”
Even Lu Yang knew how shocking this string of events was. This was why he had only planned to tell Dai Bufan that the Four Ancient Immortals would be visiting and nothing more. I didn’t expect Big Senior Sister to spill everything.
“You must be here to tour the Dao-Seeking Sect. Welcome, seniors.” Yun Zhi greeted each of the Four Ancient Immortals.
The four of them hurriedly returned the greeting. Three-quarters of them had been taught a lesson by Yun Zhi before. Even the remaining Qilin Immortal had witnessed Yun Zhi’s fearsome might in Zhongshan Commandery.
“However, I have matters to attend to with Fellow Daoist Jiang in the imperial city. Would it be acceptable for Senior Immortal Fairy and Little Junior Brother to guide you around instead?”
“No problem, no problem at all,” the Four Ancient Immortals hastily replied. Yun Zhi’s composed aura was so overwhelming that they dared not let loose and have fun.
“What are you going to the imperial city for?” The Everlasting Immortal Fairy was baffled. I was hoping Lass Yun would show us around the Dao-Seeking Sect. Besides, haven’t we just met Jiang Ping’an in Zhongshan Commandery?
Yun Zhi let out a rare sigh. “After the battle at the imperial city, Guan Shanhai’s three ethereal souls, seven corporeal souls, physical body, and Dao Fruit were all separated. Our Dao-Seeking Sect retained the three ethereal souls and the Dao Fruit, while the imperial city kept the seven corporeal souls and the physical body.”
Lu Yang nodded. Of course, I remember. That was my idea.
“Just now, Guan Shanhai said he felt outnumbered and constrained on Incarceration Peak, so he would like to have his seven corporeal souls and physical body returned. I’m going to negotiate with Fellow Daoist Jiang about it.”
Lu Yang. “...”
Isn’t our Dao-Seeking Sect taking its humanitarian concern a little too far?
“By the way, Big Senior Sister, we believe that Senior Qilin Immortal didn’t assassinate Senior Epoch Immortal. Yao Sheng had likely altered his memories,” Lu Yang said.
Once reality and memories were modified, they became established facts, and there was no longer any need to continuously maintain the Law Follows Words state.
Yun Zhi looked unsurprised, as if she had expected it, and nodded. “That’s what I thought too.”
“You thought the same?” Lu Yang was delighted. He had spoken up in hopes of receiving Yun Zhi’s support.
“Naturally. After all...” Yun Zhi paused, realizing there were too many people around to voice some things aloud. She promptly kept her mouth shut.
“After all what?” The Qilin Immortal was desperate to know the reason.
Seeing how eager he was, Yun Zhi hesitated for a moment before finally saying, “After all, you look rather weak.”
“I...” The Qilin Immortal was choked speechless. He could only turn to glare at his three brothers behind him, who were struggling to suppress their laughter.
“One more thing. The seniors wish to remove the World Seal and open the Box World. What is your opinion on this?”
“Open the Box World? That’s not a bad idea.” Yun Zhi revealed a faint smile.
She had spent her childhood in a secret domain, never having seen the true starry sky. When the Taciturn Daoist Priest brought her out, though the sky above was resplendent with stars, it was merely the shadows of the starry sky that once existed. This was why she had used her golden cores to substitute the stars.
If the Box World could be opened, she would finally behold the genuine starry sky, fulfilling one of her wishes.
“However, opening the Box World involves many far-reaching implications. We can’t act rashly,” Yun Zhi reminded him.
“That is a given.” Lu Yang knew that Yun Zhi shared his concerns. On the way here, he had already mapped out the first step. “The best approach would be to summon the authority figures of all major factions and have them sit together to formulate a set of regulations.”
The authority figures referred to Jiang Ping’an of Great Xia, Jiang Lianyi of the Demon Region, Ao Ling of the East Sea, and the Epoch Immortal of the Buddhist Kingdom. The Extreme North wasn’t a unified faction, so it could be left out.
“Perfect. Since I’m heading to the imperial city, I’ll discuss this with Fellow Daoist Jiang Ping’an.”
“Then I shall be responsible for notifying the rest?” Lu Yang volunteered.
“That won’t be necessary.” With that, Yun Zhi leaped into the sky and vanished in a streak of golden light, leaving everyone nonplussed.
What does she mean? Who would notify Jiang Lianyi and Ao Ling then?
Lu Yang’s eyelid twitched. He was the first to grasp Yun Zhi’s intentions and prepared to slip away before chaos erupted.
Unfortunately, it was too late. From the rear of Heaven’s Gate Peak, resounding dragon roars and phoenix cries echoed.
“You dare to come back?!”
A dragon and a phoenix soared across the sky, their pupils blazing with raging fire.
No wonder the others didn’t need to be notified—Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi were already at the Dao-Seeking Sect.
The color drained from the Qilin Immortal’s face. He immediately grabbed the Heaven Mandate Immortal and the Nine-Layers Immortal to use them as shields.
“Qilin, family matters are best settled personally.” The Heaven Mandate Immortal and the Nine-Layers Immortal nimbly sidestepped at the critical moment.
The Epoch Immortal demonstrated his loyalty to friends and hollered at the top of his lungs. “Younger sisters-in-law, no need to hold back! If anything is damaged, I can fix it with my Epoch Dao Fruit!”
The Heaven Mandate Immortal and the other two immortals wisely distanced themselves, lest they be caught in the crossfire.
The dragon and phoenix’s combined assault came crashing down from the heavens, its power terrifying beyond compare. In the Qilin Immortal’s pupils, the figures of the dragon and phoenix grew larger and larger.
BOOM!!!
Smoke and dust billowed. Two graceful figures emerged, leaving the prone Qilin Immortal sprawled on the ground.
Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi snorted coldly, each taking one of Lu Yang’s arms.
“Senior Brother Lu Yang, didn’t we agree that once our hubby appeared, the three of us would discipline him together? Why didn’t you make a move?”
Layer upon layer of cold sweat beaded on Lu Yang’s forehead. The Qilin Immortal, still lying prone on the ground, lifted his head and fixed Lu Yang with a chilling glare. Even when the Qilin Immortal learned how well-versed Lu Yang was in their embarrassing dark history, he hadn’t looked at him like this.
Sandwiched between Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi, Lu Yang groaned inwardly. “Junior sisters—I mean, seniors, there must be some misunderstanding between us.”
Heaven and earth bear witness, I stay out of such situations whenever I can. Last time the two ladies suggested joining forces to discipline the Qilin Immortal, I immediately used Close Horizon From Cliff to flee to the Extreme North to suffer.
Jin Caiwei appeared behind the Qilin Immortal, struggling to pull him up from the ground, but she was too short to lift him properly. She bared her heart to him. “A’Shi, I knew you’d come back. I’ve always believed in you!”
Sensing everyone’s gaze on him, especially the icy, merciless glares from Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi, the Qilin Immortal wished he could die on the spot.
“Caiwei, come here. Don’t stand on his side.” Ao Ling’s voice was frosty. They had searched the world and failed to find the Qilin Immortal. It was clear that he had been deliberately hiding from them. Now that he had finally shown up, they were determined not to let him off easy.
Jin Caiwei looked at the Qilin Immortal, then at Ao Ling and Jiang Lianyi. With a difficult decision, she released the Qilin Immortal and ran over to Lu Yang’s side.
In the blink of an eye, the Qilin Immortal was once again a solitary soul.
With how the Everlasting Immortal Fairy was enjoying the spectacle, she evidently wouldn’t be of any help. Lu Yang prayed to the heavens for someone to come and break this deadlock for him.
Yun Mengmeng appeared, beaming with a bright, innocent smile as she threw herself at Lu Yang, exclaiming, “Second-in-Command, you’re back!”
Lu Yang looked like he had nothing left to live for.
This wasn’t how I wanted the deadlock to be broken.
