Chapter 1092 - 1065: The Chief Appears
Knock knock.
Axel Brodie, sitting in his cell, heard the sound of knuckles tapping on the wall. He looked up towards the entrance and found the scruffy-bearded Director Takasumi standing at the door, with a smile that sent chills down the spine.
"Someone reported that you are hiding a weapon here."
Takasumi said.
"A weapon?"
Axel was stunned and frowned.
"How would I have something like that?
If that’s the case, you can search my room."
Takasumi chuckled coldly twice and said, "There’s no need for that."
Saying this, he reached under Axel’s bed board, quickly retrieving a sharp blade.
Axel’s face changed drastically, and he sprang up, shouting angrily, "You bastard..."
Guilty before proven, Axel understood right here that he was framed.
He had heard of Director Takasumi’s notorious name in other holding facilities — extremely cruel, taking out his bad moods on the inmates for fun. But hearing was different from witnessing, and now experiencing it firsthand, Axel felt a chill down his spine, cursing intensely in his heart.
But just as Axel got up from his bed, even before he could make a move, two security officers had already pounced on him, skillfully locking his arms behind his back and pressing his head onto the floor.
"Ah ah ah—"
Axel’s screams echoed throughout the entire facility, audible to practically everyone in every room.
Several minutes later, the bruised Axel was thrown into the corridor in the middle of the courtyard.
With hands on his hips, Director Takasumi loudly declared, "Axel Brodie committed a grave mistake by hiding a weapon! But it is impossible for him to do this alone within the prison, so I believe there’s an accomplice among you.
However, checking each person one by one to find the accomplice is too bothersome, and I don’t have the time for that. Hence, the responsibility will be shouldered by all of you here!
From today onwards, for a full year, all of your free outdoor time is revoked! You are all forbidden to leave your rooms!"
As expected, the entire room erupted, with every convict unable to restrain themselves from poking their heads out of the bars.
"Wait, this is too unreasonable!?"
"I don’t even know this Axel guy!"
"Isn’t this just like solitary confinement?"
Axel, pinned to the ground, gasped laboriously, "You... framed me, you planned this from the start..."
"Shut up!" Takasumi shouted, "What are you trash yelling about? You’re all people not needed in this world!
You have no freedom, no rights, only a life of surviving in the darkness!"
"This isn’t right."
Yusei, unable to hold back any longer, said coldly to Takasumi from behind the bars of his cell.
"There’s no such thing as people who aren’t needed in this world."
Takasumi sneered, "Oh? The trash from the Satellite District wants to play hero too?"
Yusei said, "Axel is innocent. He is a true honorable Duelist without any schemes or plots."
"Oh?"
Director Takasumi sneered.
"Are you saying this after knowing I’m also a Duelist? Interesting.
If you say he’s a true Duelist, does that mean I’m a fake?"
Yusei did not speak, but his indifferent expression said it all.
"Humph, alright then."
With a cold smile, Director Takasumi revealed the plan he had all along.
"Then in front of everyone, you and I, let’s resolve this in a Duel. If you win, I’ll pardon Axel and won’t take away your free time.
But if I win..."
Before he could finish, Yusei chimed in, "Then I’ll follow your orders for the rest of my life."
Director Takasumi laughed heartily.
Though he said nothing, he sneered internally, Kid, you might not know it yet, but your life won’t last long.
Today I’ll see if the Dragon Sealer is really as formidable as rumored, but regardless of the Duel’s outcome, after today you’ll vanish from this world.
But his laughter was cut short by a voice behind him.
"Oh, Director Takasumi is in such good spirits today, impressive."
Director Takasumi felt displeased upon hearing the voice.
"Who is it?"
He turned around, wondering who dared to speak to him like this in his prison.
But as soon as he looked back, he nearly jumped out of his skin,
"Officer... Officer Godwin!"
The man behind him had silver hair, a handsome face, and stood tall and straight with his hands behind his back. Even alone, his presence was imposing.
At this point in the timeline, Yusei had never met Godwin. Upon hearing Takasumi’s address, Yusei couldn’t help but take a closer look at the silver-haired man.
Officer? Is he this director’s superior?
However, at this time, Godwin was actually Yugen.
Yugen smiled and stepped forward. Takasumi and the officers on each side quickly saluted him.
"It’s good to like dueling. Duel pushes the progress of our world, the development of civilization. Even personally, I greatly advocate for it."
Yugen said.
"However, challenging others after confiscating their card decks doesn’t seem like something a true Duelist would do, does it?"
"Ah, this... "
Takasumi was a bit embarrassed and lowered his head, daring not to respond.
In the original animation, he also initiated a duel with Yusei, yet confiscated all the prisoners’ card decks inside the prison. Ultimately, the prisoners each secretly hid a card and handed them all to Yusei, forming the card deck for the duel.
Takasumi felt puzzled at this moment. Wasn’t there an order to eliminate this Dragon Sealer? Why would the officer personally come here to interfere with my actions?
Could it be like the officer just said, he really cares about the legitimacy of duels and cannot tolerate such dirty methods?
Not only was Takasumi considering this, but even Yusei Fudo beyond the prison bars, though expressionless, was speculating similarly in his heart.
This director may not be a decent person, but his superior seems like a true Duelist.
In the original timeline, when Yusei first met Godwin, he was not aware he was the mastermind, but his initial impression was not favorable. Now the timeline has changed, and Yugen’s portrayal of Godwin earned Yusei some goodwill.
This was originally part of Yugen’s plan.
The mastermind who sent future Godwin to the present timeline, regardless of his motives, seems to want Godwin to destroy history based on the tasks given to him.
From this, Yugen recalled a hypothesis he heard from Kaiba Group experts before coming to this dimension; it’s possible that the original history of the 5DS Dimension was disrupted, causing the two worlds to attract each other, potentially leading to a collision crisis.
This could indeed be the mastermind’s goal.
Thus, Yugen naturally thought to restore history, correcting the distorted plot back to the track of the original work.
Whether history is corrected or the mastermind reveals himself directly, both outcomes are good for Yugen.
Since the goal is to rectify history, the first step is to save Yusei Fudo, preventing him from being killed by Godwin’s prior order,
and if possible, gather a bit of Yusei’s goodwill for the next phase.
Next, to restore the original plot, Godwin should host the Lucky Cup tournament, using this tournament to gather Dragon Sealers in order to trigger the awakening of the Red Dragon’s power.
But Yusei is a stubborn person; the stronger an authority figure forces him, the more he prefers to refuse. In the original work, Godwin kidnapped Yusei’s satellite district friends, using hostages to compel Yusei to participate.
Yugen dislikes holding hostages, finding it uncouth and troublesome, so he thought of a better idea.
Yusei is completely opposite to Judai; though cold externally, he is warm within. You just need to display qualities recognized by him, and he views you as a partner easily.
For instance, "a true Duelist."
Yusei respects all Duelists that he acknowledges. The prowess in dueling, enthusiasm for dueling, conduct and honor as a Duelist, all earn his respect. If invited by a Duelist he recognizes, he wouldn’t need hostages to participate in a tournament.
Thus, Yugen believes it’s necessary to create opportunities to showcase a little in front of him.
"How about this, Director Takasumi,"
Yugen chuckled lightly.
"I’d like to make a slight modification to your plan. How about dueling against me?"
Takasumi was shocked at this, promptly waving his hands repeatedly: "Wait... Wait officer, how can I dare to...? "
Before he could finish, Yugen continued: "If you win, I’ll immediately promote you to headquarters. Looking at your resume, without this chance, your position as warden might be your career’s peak with no further advancement, right?"
Upon hearing this, Takasumi swallowed the latter half of his sentence, gulping in disbelief.
Immediate... promotion?
