Chapter 1121 - 1094: Transformation Strike
"Cotton Candy’s monster effect."
Yugen chuckled as he explained to Leo.
"After this card in face-down defense position is attacked, the player that attacked takes 1000 points of damage."
Leo: "Huh? There’s something like this..."
The bespectacled classmate beside him said, "That’s not right, even so, the monster should be destroyed in battle..."
"Cotton Candy can’t be destroyed by battle," Yugen replied.
Leo: "What!? It can’t be destroyed by battle, so then the effect of Recorder’s consecutive attacks is meaningless..."
Yugen said, "And I’ll activate the cover card, the Trap Card ’Sacrificial Treasure Scroll’.
If the total attack of all monsters on my field is lower than the monster with the lowest attack on the opponent’s field, I draw two cards from the deck." (Original effect)
Leo: "Cotton Candy’s attack power is lower than Recorder’s..."
The small Cotton Candy stood proudly, as if it was very proud of having low attack power.
"Indeed." Yugen said, "Hence, I draw two cards from the deck.
But during the turn this card is activated, I can’t perform any normal summon, flip summon, or special summon."
Leo grumbled, "Alright, then the turn ends."
In the original story, Yusei commented that at this stage, Leo often indulged in his own duel, without much regard for the opponent’s tactics and responses, only becoming smug and complacent about his own combos.
While this showed his love for dueling, Yusei said that thinking like this wouldn’t take him far. A duel should be an interaction between both parties, a collision of strategies and tactics.
This theory still makes sense in this era, but Yugen contemplated that in the distant future, it might not necessarily be so.
After all, in modern Yu-Gi-Oh!, with mainstream decks, people could monologue to a wall for five minutes, and by the time they finished, the game would be almost over with no interaction involved. You only needed to focus on your own progression.
In this light, Leo’s understanding of duels was rather ahead of his time.
Yugen said, "Now to my turn, draw a card."
"Activate the Magic Card ’Pot of Greedy Modesty’.
Reveal the top three cards of the deck, select one to add to the hand, and return the rest to the deck."
Yugen drew three cards, glanced at them, picked one to add to his hand, and returned the rest to the deck, which shuffled automatically.
"But Pot of Greedy Modesty has a side effect," Yugen said, "In the turn this card is activated, I can’t perform a special summon."
Leo crossed his arms: "What, it’s hard to execute effective attacks without special summoning."
"Indeed."
Yugen smiled and continued.
"Then set two cards to the backfield. Next, from the hand, activate the Magic Card ’Handwriting Erasure’.
Both players discard all cards in their hands, then draw the same number of cards."
Leo’s face fell: "Huh? I have to discard my hand again..."
He bit his lip, seemingly very reluctant to part with each card, muttering as he slowly sent his hand card by card to the grave.
The bespectacled classmate next to him watched and found it odd.
"This person keeps drawing cards and exchanging hands, and it’s only the second turn, yet already so many cards have been played..."
Cotton Candy placed on the field was like an immovable meat shield, but aside from knocking the opponent for a thousand damage at its flip, it didn’t have other offensive capabilities. Yet, the opponent didn’t seem to intend to initiate any further attack means.
It looked like he was simply stalling for time.
Using Cotton Candy to stall seemed like he was preparing to find something specific from the deck.
"The effect of Handwriting Erasure, one of the cards just discarded to the grave was a Monster Card ’Scholar Spirit’."
A bespectacled spirit ghost appeared in Yugen’s field, adjusted its glasses, and began chanting spells from the complex Magic Scripture in its hands.
"With Scholar Spirit sent to the grave, I can draw a card from the deck."
Yugen drew another card.
"Then activate the covered card on the field," Yugen opened the backfield, "Magic Card ’Burial Spell Treasure Scroll’.
This card allows me to banish three Magic Cards from the grave from the game to draw two cards from the deck." (Original card)
A golden light flashed through the grave on Yugen’s duel disc, and three cards, in sequence, were returned from the grave to his hand. Yugen displayed the three cards.
"From the grave, banish Magic Card ’Handwriting Erasure’, ’Dark Realm Trade’, and ’Pot of Greedy Modesty’ from the game, then draw two cards from the deck."
Leo: "Drawing more cards?"
He seemed a little stunned. He couldn’t keep track of how many cards his opponent had gone through in just two turns.
Is this guy here to play a card draw deck, or is he here to duel with me?
"And then summon ’Air Circulation Machine’ in defense position."
Yugen finally summoned a monster. A robot with a blue shell appeared, with a giant fan on its head, spinning briskly from the moment it landed.
[Air Circulation Machine, Defense Power 600]
"The effect of Air Circulation Machine," Yugen said, "Activates upon successful summon of this card.
Return two hand cards to the deck to shuffle."
Yugen selected two hand cards, inserted them into the deck, and it shuffled briskly. Then the top two cards popped out, which he drew into his hand.
"After shuffling, draw two cards from the deck."
"Swapping hands again..." Leo scratched his head, "Uncle, can you speed it up? Isn’t it my turn yet?"
Yugen laughed.
Kids just lack patience; it’s still early on and they’re already impatient. If it were the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! environment, where the opponent could monologue for five minutes, wouldn’t you break down?
"Finally, set a card, and my turn ends."
The bespectacled classmate beside him wasn’t like Leo, only focused on his own game. Watching Yugen’s continuous card draws, he felt it was peculiar: "Leo, be careful, this person’s duel is strange..."
"I know, I know! No need to worry!"
Leo was in high spirits.
"Alright, it’s finally over; my turn again, draw a card!"
Leo drew a card.
"Summon adjusted monster, ’Transformed Warrior: Remote Control’!"
A small white device appeared, looking like an air conditioner remote. The display lit up with cartoonish green eyes, with slender arms extending from each side, and tiny legs at the bottom, bouncing lively all around.
[Transformed Warrior: Remote Control, Attack Power 300]
"Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes! It’s finally coming!"
Leo’s excitement peaked.
"I use Level Three ’Transformed Warrior: Remote Control’!
Level Four ’Transformed Warrior: Recorder’, Star-Tuning!"
[3+4=7]
"To protect world peace, connect courage and strength! Synchro Summon!
The emissary of love and justice—
—Power Tool Dragon!!!"
