Who would study psychology unless they had some issues?!

Chapter 998 - 772: Aligning Granularity

The two young consultants completely chimed in with Nan Zhubin and Chonghui, even looking like they were raring to go; their earlier complaints had long been thrown to the winds.

So that settled it.

When the meeting ended, the master’s students and the consultants left first. They needed to draft the relevant written proposal; once the framework was laid out, Nan Zhubin would then fill in the most professional sections.

Mo Kai, however, stayed behind, a look of wanting to speak yet holding back on his face.

When he looked up, he met the meaningful gazes of Nan Zhubin and Chonghui head‑on, as if to say, "we’re just waiting for you to talk."

"Is there a problem?"

Mo Kai smiled awkwardly, not at all surprised that his thoughts had been seen through.

"It’s not a question about our profession, so I didn’t feel comfortable asking just now with so many people around, since everyone’s enthusiasm was finally stirred up. I kept feeling like my question would dampen their motivation again," Mo Kai explained.

He’d really thought it through.

Indeed, when it came to issues around Psychological Consultation, Mo Kai usually asked on the spot; he couldn’t delay at all.

Situations like this—grabbing someone for a private word after a meeting—were actually pretty rare.

Even Nan Zhubin couldn’t help being a little curious: "What’s the question?"

"It’s just... I’ve had this contradictory feeling all along."

Mo Kai organized his wording and asked, "Right now we want to take on this emotional support conference, and the core is to stabilize the company’s situation and protect the visitors who’ve transferred over to us, right?"

Nan Zhubin signaled for Mo Kai to go on.

"But we’re also trying to deal with Boss Wang... no, ’deal with’ isn’t the right word—anyway, we’re standing on the opposite side of Boss Wang, right?"

Nan Zhubin nodded: "If Boss Wang doesn’t have any ulterior motives, then we’ll just follow the process and complete the support work; but if he does have ulterior motives, then conflict becomes unavoidable—and judging from where things stand now, the latter is highly likely."

When Nan Zhubin said "highly likely," it was basically a conclusion.

Mo Kai nodded, then asked, "But if we are dealing with Boss Wang... won’t that make the company even more turbulent? When that happens, our visitors will also be affected. Wouldn’t that run counter to our original intention?"

"Right now what I’m feeling is... on the one hand we want to stabilize the company’s atmosphere and create a better real‑world environment for the visitors, which is helping Boss Wang, helping his company;

"on the other hand, we’re going up against Boss Wang, and that might end up hurting our visitors."

Mo Kai showed a distressed expression: "I feel like... we’ve fallen into a situation where our left hand is fighting our right."

Once he said this, Nan Zhubin and Chonghui roughly understood what Mo Kai meant.

It did sound like there was some logic to it.

No wonder Mo Kai hadn’t asked this when everyone was there; it really did sound a bit demoralizing.

But in the eyes of Nan Zhubin and Chonghui, this was an easy problem to solve.

"You’ve mixed up what’s primary and what’s secondary," Nan Zhubin said.

Mo Kai froze for a moment.

Nan Zhubin held out one hand: "We’re holding this support conference to stabilize the employees’ state and the company’s atmosphere, thereby improving the visitors’ real‑world environment, right?"

Mo Kai nodded.

Nan Zhubin then held out his other hand: "And we’re confronting Boss Wang partly out of self‑protection..."

That was putting it modestly; what Nan Zhubin was doing went far beyond mere self‑protection.

"...and on the other hand, because the current chaos in the company originates with Boss Wang."

Nan Zhubin looked at Mo Kai and said, "’Boss Wang’ is not the same thing as ’the company,’ and ’the company’ is not the same thing as ’the company’s employees.’ Our dealing with Boss Wang doesn’t automatically mean we’re throwing the organization into chaos and thus harming our visitors."

Nan Zhubin held his two hands up parallel in front of his chest: "These two lines aren’t heading toward each other in opposition. To some extent, they run in parallel."

Mo Kai kept his stunned expression for a moment; then his eyes brightened a little, as if his brain were itching.

The boss of a company and the company itself... really weren’t always the same thing.

"Of course, there is some risk here. While Boss Wang isn’t identical with the company, the overlap between the two is quite large. Affecting Boss Wang will indeed affect the company, so the way we operate has to be somewhat delicate—this isn’t about blindly confronting him or blindly attacking him."

Nan Zhubin adopted a thoughtful look: "You can just read my proposal and watch how we operate when the time comes."

Since Nan Zhubin had put it that way, and given his boundless trust in Nan Zhubin, Mo Kai naturally nodded with anticipation.

Then Mo Kai continued, "Senior, most of the visitors who’ve transferred over to us now are here because of organizational issues at the company and because of layoffs. After we finish this support conference... we’re not going to somehow make the company stop laying people off or stop putting pressure on the visitors, are we?"

Nan Zhubin glanced at Mo Kai. That was a silly question.

"In an ideal situation, maybe Boss Wang will stop going so crazy with the layoffs just for the sake of going public. Even if there are layoffs, the compensation will be adequate, and the visitors’ real‑world pressure will ease," Nan Zhubin said. "But it will only ease; it won’t disappear."

"That’s already a rare best‑case scenario. Ordinary Psychological Consultation usually doesn’t even have a chance to adjust a visitor’s real‑world circumstances."

Nan Zhubin squinted at Mo Kai slightly: "You can’t not understand this. Why do I feel like you’re deliberately tossing out a brick to attract jade with that question?"

Mo Kai smiled sheepishly.

Then they heard him say, "Senior, didn’t I tell you before... I can talk to my family about setting up a software tech company to take in some of the visitors who were illegally laid off by Tongping Software?"
