The afternoon sunlight fell on Shi Chuxin’s computer screen.

As time passed, the bright marks caused by the sunlight slowly moved across the computer screen, like a sort of countdown scale.

Shi Chuxin stared intently at the Excel sheet before her for a long time, rubbing her eyes instinctively due to the glare.

The air conditioning vent was directly above her head, and the cold air poured straight into her collar, chilling the back of her neck. She had adjusted the airflow once, but that coldness still crept into her clothes like a worm.

Shi Chuxin couldn’t help but get goosebumps.

Shi Chuxin felt it was the environment making her uncomfortable.

But after a shiver, she suddenly felt a sense of inner relief.

——All of this was finally about to end.

After typing the last word on the keyboard, Shi Chuxin let out a long sigh. At the same time, she sensed her colleague from the next desk sliding their chair over.

"Finished your work so quickly?"

The colleague examined Shi Chuxin’s computer screen. In the workplace, work progress content was considered very private, and the colleague’s undisguised curiosity clearly indicated a close everyday relationship with Shi Chuxin.

"So fast..." The colleague first praised Shi Chuxin’s proactive work attitude, then marveled, "You’re really getting enough of these benefits, insurance, housing fund, severance pay..."

"To have imagined such a situation three months ago would have been unthinkable..."

Listening to the colleague’s marveling, Shi Chuxin remained expressionless, nodding as a response, while her gaze returned to verify her work one last time, ensuring the numbers were accurate.

"Although the company is providing all these benefits now, it’s a good thing we don’t have to do things behind the scenes anymore... but I can’t help but feel the company has been getting worse lately, don’t you think?"

The colleague, not bothered by Shi Chuxin’s indifferent reaction, continued: "Take you, for example. Normally, calculating the housing fund wouldn’t be your responsibility since it falls outside the scope of employee relations."

"But..." the colleague suddenly smiled, "the company hasn’t needed to consider employee relations recently. No overtime, money’s enough, laid off without fuss, I envy you..."

Shi Chuxin still said nothing.

Suddenly, the colleague carefully glanced around, lowering their voice: "It’s also because so many people have been jumping ship recently, otherwise you wouldn’t have to handle these sorts of tasks."

"Speaking of jumping ship... Chuxin, do you think we should consider it, too? Although the company has recently started treating us like people, the atmosphere still feels off, and I can’t help but feel uneasy..."

"I’ve found something." Shi Chuxin suddenly spoke.

The colleague was taken aback for a couple of seconds, not reacting: "...Found what?"

"My next place, I’ve already found it." Shi Chuxin replied.

The colleague uttered a small "ah" sound.

"When did this happen?"

Shi Chuxin didn’t answer this question. She simply went about organizing the verified files, sending them, then removing the stack of files from her desk.

She got up, ready to leave.

"Where are you going?" The colleague blinked.

"To get Sister Zong’s signature, then I’m heading to the new place." Shi Chuxin replied without turning back.

Tap, tap, tap——

The crisp sound of high heels gradually faded into the distance.

The colleague watched Shi Chuxin’s retreating figure, looked at the completed work on her computer screen, then back at their own half-finished spreadsheet.

No wonder Shi Chuxin had been working so diligently, hardly slacking off.

"So... it was the handover before leaving?" The colleague realized belatedly.

...

As Shi Chuxin slowly walked down the not-so-long corridor, most of the glass partitions along the sides were empty, with only two or three rooms still lit, the blinds tightly drawn.

Shi Chuxin guessed that the people inside were slacking off.

After the psychological counseling session some time ago, all the employees at Tongping Software Company had expected a storm.

But in fact, nothing happened.

Or rather, most employees couldn’t see anything happening. Everything became gentle, and calm.

As a result, the work in all departments became more sluggish.

But Shi Chuxin wasn’t like these people.

The light outside filtered through the frosted glass, casting a blurry white patch on the floor.

She stopped in front of the director’s office door, raising her hand to knock twice.

"Come in."

The voice from inside the office was muffled, as if pressed out from deep in the throat.

Shi Chuxin opened the door and walked in. She saw the HR director sitting behind the desk. The other person’s face covered in thick foundation, yet slightly blue tinted by the computer screen’s light.

Shi Chuxin handed over the documents she had.

"Sister Zong, I’ve completed all the handover work before leaving. Please take a look, and if there’s no issue, could you please sign? I’m ready to leave."

Shi Chuxin’s resignation application had been submitted early, and the HR director had already said all that needed to be said about retaining her.

Today’s signature was also agreed upon in advance.

But looking at the stack of materials in front of her, the HR director didn’t reach out to take them.

Her gaze shifted from the computer screen, landing on Shi Chuxin’s face, where it lingered for about two seconds.

"You’re leaving, huh." The HR director let out a sigh that ought not have come at this moment.

"...Yes, I’m leaving." Shi Chuxin was momentarily surprised, placing the documents on the desk, "The process is complete, I just need your signature."

The HR director didn’t look at them.

She suddenly asked, "Do you know when Old Fu left?"

Shi Chuxin was momentarily taken aback.

"Sister Zong, are you talking about... Director Fu from the legal department?"
