Chapter 136 - 107: Chen Chong’s Contempt, Zhong Fang Confronts Sima, An Important Announcement
’Shouldn’t they at least exchange a few words?’
’Or at the very least, have a proper back-and-forth fight...’
’Not like this—first, an arrow flies out and kills one of them, then the hounds pounce, and then he just charges in with his knife and starts hacking away.’
The whole thing was like a scene from a movie about an assassin. The process was completely clean, smooth as could be.
’Seriously, who are these guys? They’re so intense.’
"Brother Chong!"
Just then, the members of the Fishing Club, who had been frozen in shock, finally snapped out of it and rushed from the wooden cabin to Chen Chong’s side.
Though Chen Chong didn’t know their names, he recognized them from the Unihorn Catfish hunt and knew they were part of the Fishing Club.
He gave them a casual greeting.
Just then, a few more people stepped out from the crowd. Staring in disbelief at the bodies on the ground, they pointed at Chen Chong and started shouting.
"Who the hell are you people, daring to kill members of our Survival Association?"
"Don’t you dare leave! Not a single one of you! We’ve already told our president. You’ll pay for this!"
The Survival Association!?
The surrounding crowd immediately burst into an uproar.
Everyone at the school was all too familiar with the Survival Association. It had been formed from the old student union and was now the most powerful faction on campus. It boasted two to three hundred members and was still constantly recruiting.
Because they had such large numbers, most groups were reluctant to cross the Survival Association.
If someone was out scavenging for resources and ran into a Survival Association squad in the same area, they would almost always choose to back off. It was just not worth the trouble.
Of course, some weren’t afraid, but they were a tiny minority...
At first, the crowd had assumed the two dead men were just from some small-time group. But now, hearing they were from the Survival Association, they were instantly intrigued.
They knew a good show was about to start. The ones who had done the killing were probably in for a world of hurt...
But to everyone’s surprise, Chen Chong seemed completely unfazed, his expression as calm as ever.
"So what if you’re the Survival Association? Your men were in the wrong first. They tried to use a hornet’s nest to kill me, but they failed. So I killed them. Tell me, was I wrong?"
"And as for waiting here for you? I have things to do. I don’t have time to waste on you."
"Tell your president my name is Chen Chong. If he has a problem with this, he can come find me anytime. But before he does, he’d better be prepared to die!"
After saying his piece, Chen Chong turned and left.
Xu Jun and Wang Biao hurried to follow.
Everyone in the trading market stared at each other, utterly shocked. It took them a long while to process what had just happened...
After a long pause, people gradually started to speak.
"Damn, who is that guy? He’s so fucking arrogant, not even batting an eye at the Survival Association!"
"I have no idea. He said his name is Chen Chong. How have I never heard of a guy like that before?"
"Chen Chong... I think I’ve heard that name. Apparently, he got into a dispute with the Survival Association on the second day after the ’transmigration’. He’s got a bit of a reputation over at Men’s Dorm 4."
"He’s that much of a badass? To just openly disrespect the entire Survival Association?"
Of the several hundred people in the trading market, only the dozen or so members of the Fishing Club weren’t the least bit surprised. Everyone else was completely stunned.
「A long time later...」
Zhong Fang rushed over with his men. He had brought everyone who was left in the club room—over twenty people—sparing only those who were already out fishing.
Each of them was armed with clubs, knives, and shovels, their foreheads beaded with sweat. It was obvious they had run here as fast as they could the moment they got the news.
"Where is Chen Chong?"
Zhong Fang asked as soon as he arrived.
The club members who were at the market hurried to meet him and explained what had happened...
Before long, the people from the Survival Association arrived as well, in a huge, menacing crowd.
Their numbers were far greater than the Fishing Club’s.
Sima was in the lead, with at least sixty people behind him.
If the Survival Association didn’t send out most of its members to scavenge for food every day, they likely would have brought even more people.
"Who... Who killed a member of our Survival Association!"
A hulking young man with a large blade standing next to Sima bellowed the question. It was hard to tell if he was genuinely looking for the culprit or just trying to hype up his own side.
The group walked over to the bodies.
Looking at the members on the ground who had long since stopped breathing, Sima’s expression turned ugly.
And after hearing what happened from the bystanders, his expression became downright foul.
"Chen Chong, you again?"
"I didn’t even have time to settle the score with you over Du Ming last time, and now this?"
"I’ve really never seen someone so arrogant. Even Fan Kai wouldn’t dare to act like this..."
A member asked, "President, what should we do?"
"Find them and kill them, of course."
Just as the members of the Survival Association were about to move, Zhong Fang stepped forward, holding a club.
"Hm?"
Sima naturally recognized him. After all, their two sides had fought over fishing rods on the very first day of the transmigration.
Even though the Student Union had more people back then, there was no denying the Fishing Club’s fighting prowess. They fought like madmen, and Sima had been forced to take a loss.
Fortunately, the Fishing Club members had no ambition. All this time since the ’transmigration’, they were either fishing or on their way to fish.
They never fought for territory and refused all attempts at recruitment.
That was why Sima had been able to ignore them for the time being. But this time...
"Zhong Fang, what are you doing out here with your men?"
"President Sima, what do you think?"
"Could it be... you’re going to stick up for Chen Chong?"
"Not exactly ’sticking up for him’. It’s just... I owe him a massive favor. So, where I can help, I’ll help."
Zhong Fang had a faint smile on his face.
Sima, on the other hand, scowled. ’How did the completely unrecruitable Fishing Club get so close to Chen Chong?’
"I advise you not to help. Chen Chong has killed more than ten of our Survival Association members. This won’t end until one of us is dead. If you help him, your Fishing Club will suffer too!"
"Threatening me? You think I’m some kind of pussy?"
Zhong Fang flew into a rage on the spot. He dropped the pretense of civility with Sima and let him have it.
"Let me tell you something! I’m helping Chen Chong, and that’s final. I’ll help him now, and I’ll help him in the future. If your Survival Association so much as touches him, all fifty-plus members of my Fishing Club will fight you to the fucking death!"
"And another thing! Your Survival Association was in the wrong from the start! You tried to screw over Chen Chong, but he turned the tables and killed your guys instead. They deserved it!"
Sima’s face grew so dark it seemed to drip with venom.
Unless he had no other choice, he really didn’t want to fight the lunatics from the Fishing Club. Because when they fought... they were truly fearless.
"What kind of favor did he do for you? Is it worth you and your fifty members risking it all against our two or three hundred?"
"Why the hell do you care what favor it is? And stop pretending you’re some big shot. Sure, your Survival Association has more members than our club, but you know full well how you got them. The moment real trouble starts, they’ll be the first ones to run!"
Zhong Fang’s face was full of disdain.
Ever since hunting the Unihorn Catfish, he had admired Chen Chong from the bottom of his heart.
Later, Chen Chong had even set him up with an intelligence exchange point, essentially giving the club a whole new way to find resources. The debt of gratitude was immense.
It wasn’t just a favor to him personally, but to the entire club.
’Never mind the fact that Chen Chong was completely in the right here, and the Survival Association was at fault. Even if Chen Chong were in the wrong, I’d still fucking back him up!’
As for having fewer people in a fight...
The Fishing Club just likes to fish; it doesn’t mean they can’t fight.
After wrangling fish day in and day out, every member had developed incredible arm strength.
All that wind and sun doesn’t just tan your skin, it pumps you full of calcium. Our bones are hard!
The entire club had never bowed to anyone!
They’d even take on the Fighting Club.
Except for the Swordsmanship Club and Chen Chong’s group...
The former really would cut you down, and the latter they genuinely admired.
"Also, let me tell you, you really shouldn’t provoke Chen Chong. Never mind my Fishing Club helping him; even if we didn’t, you still couldn’t beat him."
Sima’s brow furrowed. He stared at Zhong Fang’s confident face, wondering where he got the gall to say something like that.
Zhong Fang chuckled. After sweeping his gaze over everyone present, he spoke loudly.
"Since everyone is here, I have a few very important announcements to make..."
