Chapter 81: How About Punishing Me by Bathing the Baby, Too?
’Chen Sheng? He sounds like an important character.’
The heroine’s hints were more or less related to her previous life, but the plot Jian Yu had received made no mention of anyone named Chen Sheng.
The noisy classroom fell silent in an instant.
Jian Yu sensed it.
She looked up, just in time to meet Sheng Yue’s gaze.
Black hair, blue eyes, with an aura as cold and empty as a vacuum around him.
His eyes held the depths of the sea, and his entire being was as distant as a solitary moon.
They had kissed last night. This was the man she had wanted to pounce on most before she transmigrated into the book. Jian Yu’s large eyes fluttered.
Her fingers clenched tightly.
’He’s breaking the ice. What should I say?’
’What if he brings up last night... Huh?’
Sheng Yue lowered his gaze and turned away.
’He... he left?’
’So they stop caring the second they get what they want!’
Jian Yu lowered her head and stared at her book.
’Thank goodness I didn’t say hi first. That would’ve been enough embarrassment to make me an introvert for life.’
Her Star Brain flashed. Someone had sent a photo.
A picture of two people.
She was wearing a long, pure-white coat with a red crystal necklace, her torso adorned with an intricate and elaborate collection of pink chains.
Pei Yin’s arm was wrapped around her, his posture languid, as if he were holding an exquisite BJD doll.
One had a cool-toned pale complexion, the other a deathly pallor. The flamboyant pink, combined with the two strikingly beautiful people, made for a stunning, eye-catching sight.
’So handsome.’
Jian Yu realized Shen Gu had sent it. She turned sideways, her large, round eyes scanning the room until they found him.
Their eyes met. The two of them, both socially anxious, had found their ideal method of communication.
Shen Gu frantically typed: "AHHHHHHHH! You look so good!"
Jian Yu blushed.
’Should I just gracefully accept the compliment, or should I awkwardly reply that he looks good too?’
Jian Yu chose a third option: "It’s the clothes that look good!"
Shen Gu quickly sent a bunch more, along with a link: "I saved these from the forums. Everyone is saying you and Chief Pei are a perfect match!"
Jian Yu followed the link to the comment section.
There was more praise than jealousy, and not as many hateful comments as she had expected.
One particular student’s question caught her attention.
"Why is Chief Pei wearing white today? It’s the first time I’ve ever seen him wear it."
"You say that as if he wears pink chains every day."
"I feel like his style looks a bit familiar... doesn’t he look a little like Chairman Sheng?"
"..."
’In my memory, Pei Yin only ever wears a white lab coat at the research institute. It’s normal that they wouldn’t know that.’
Jian Yu mentally tried to make an excuse for him.
’But looking at it from every angle, if you ignore the chains, he really does look like he’s imitating Sheng Yue.’
’Connecting this to how I told him I was pursuing Sheng Yue today... Pei Yin was only angry, not shocked.’
’It’s reasonable to assume someone told him.’
’I can rule out Xi Yu. He might be pathological and mentally unstable, but as long as you humor him, he rarely pulls any schemes behind your back.’
’Ling Yanzhi, on the other hand, is far more possessive. He’s fundamentally selfish and doesn’t want anyone else getting in on this.’
’In a situation like this, he would deliberately leak the information to get Pei Yin to block Sheng Yue’s path.’
’Ideally, they’d both end up losers. He’d drive a wedge between them, ruin their images in my eyes, and ensure that no one comes out ahead.’
After finishing her analysis, Jian Yu felt a sense of satisfaction.
’The scheming between these powerful men... it’s intoxicating.’
’I’m looking forward to the moment their reason snaps completely—when they erupt from their silence and either plead with me gently or sink into debasement.’
’It’s still not crazy enough.’
’They should be grabbing my waist, putting nine locks on the door, and giving me complete security—signaling from their very core that they will never leave me, that I am their unwavering choice.’
’And if I wanted even a shred of freedom, I’d have to beg them for it, over and over again.’
’This is sick.’
’No, I like to call it a ’kink’.’
’A healthy relationship is just so boring. I want an immersive role-playing experience.’
The general genetics course was a lecture, with no practical lab component.
Jian Yu had read the book several times, only to realize that Professor Lin hardly ever mentioned anything from the textbook during his lectures.
There was a quiz coming up soon.
’I have to take this seriously.’
’Seriously.’
"Jian Yu, wake up. Don’t fall asleep," Shen Gu’s voice said, getting closer.
Jian Yu lifted her head and groggily opened her eyes.
She raised a hand to rub her eyes.
’Figures. No matter where I end up, I’m still the kind of student who can’t stand lectures.’
Shen Gu’s arms hung awkwardly at his sides, as if he were being punished by having to stand there.
"Senior Pei said he’s coming to get you. Um... he’s really intense. I’m a little scared of him."
’Nothing to be scared of. They’re all men who’ve kissed me.’
With a little wave and a docile look in her eyes, Jian Yu said, "You can go first then?"
Shen Gu glanced at the other students still lingering in the classroom. Feeling uneasy, he said, "I’ll wait for Chief Pei to get here first."
Just as he finished speaking, the sound of clinking and jangling arrived.
The remaining students swarmed out the back door.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Shen Gu also turned and slipped out the back door.
Jian Yu turned and could still see his head peeking out.
Then half a head.
Then his head was gone.
"What are you looking at?"
Pei Yin’s voice sounded from above her.
He was sitting on Jian Yu’s desk, his gaze following hers to glance askance at the back door.
When Jian Yu looked straight up, she could see his pale, sharply defined chin.
The red chain on his wrist and the pink crystal on his neck swayed slightly as he leaned forward. The accessories created a soft, decadent contrast with his sharp, chiseled features.
’That pink crystal necklace! It suits him! It suits him perfectly!’
Jian Yu blinked and pulled back, creating some distance.
’Showtime.’
She lowered her head, the sleepy blush still lingering at the corners of her eyes.
"Why didn’t Chairman Sheng come to class today?"
’He came, and then he left.’
Pei Yin pinched her chin, lifting it gently.
"I’m starting to think you’re just trying to piss me off. It’s always ’Sheng Yue, Sheng Yue.’ When he was actually here, I didn’t see you acting so love-struck."
He released her chin, his hands moving lower.
He hooked his arms under her legs and hoisted her up.
Her world tilted upwards, and Jian Yu found herself sitting on his arm.
’One hundred and sixty-six centimeters tall, forty-two kilograms... these male leads really have some serious arm strength!’
"If I called him over right now, would you dare confess to him? And if you did, would he dare to accept?"
Pei Yin fired off two questions in a row.
Then, for good measure, he added, "Coward."
’All that talk, and he still hasn’t kissed me. Not even a hint of it.’
’He looks like he has a short fuse, but his tolerance for being provoked is actually much higher than Xi Yu’s.’
Her lashes lowered, and Jian Yu’s eyelids drooped listlessly.
After being a jerk, Pei Yin immediately regretted it.
He pulled her tighter into his arms, stroking the back of her head. "Okay, okay. The coward’s last name is Sheng. I wasn’t talking about you."
But Pei Yin couldn’t help himself. "What do you even like about him? I’ll make him change, turn him into someone you’d hate. How about that?"
Jian Yu: "..."
’Different people require different strategies.’
’If I want any perks, I have to be more direct.’
’Shen Gu’s tone from earlier was good.’
’I’ll just copy that.’
"Chairman Sheng is calmer, more composed."
Jian Yu looked at him. "You’re too intense. I’m scared."
Her big, round eyes, glimmering with unshed tears, stared at him with unblinking innocence.
Pei Yin found it impossible to stay angry with her.
"Do you know what the most important quality for a medical student is?"
He held out his right hand. The red bracelet dangled from his wrist, drawing attention to his long, pale, and well-defined fingers.
"The one thing I don’t lack is composure."
Pei Yin’s tone was earnest. "Maintaining your composure around the person you like is, in itself, a sign that you don’t love them enough."
He knew he’d made a terrible first impression on her, and the second impression had been even worse.
He was, if nothing else, adaptable.
"I have never harmed an innocent person, nor have I ever experimented on anyone who wasn’t a criminal."
Pei Yin looked into her eyes. "Taking your blood for testing was only to develop a replacement pacifying drug. I never planned to keep using you as a test subject."
He kissed the corner of Jian Yu’s mouth. "I’m used to bloodshed, so sometimes I speak carelessly. I hurt you, didn’t I, baby? How did Xi Yu apologize last time? How about you punish me by making me give you a bath, too?"
Jian Yu: "..."
