Chapter 73: Love Letter
The stare was blatant, and the feeling of being followed was intense.
This was the second time.
Lin Yu and the others still hadn’t noticed a thing.
Jian Yu first ruled out Yan Qin and Xu Jianjuan.
Those two were ordinary people; it was impossible for Lin Yu not to spot them.
Compared to Pei Yin, the unknown was far more terrifying.
Jian Yu stopped in her tracks. "Could you please keep an eye on the surveillance monitors today, too?"
Shen Gu looked concerned and wanted to ask why.
Lin Yu agreed immediately. "Okay."
’He’s still too green.’
Shen Gu shut his mouth and made a mental note.
Jian Yu quickened her pace.
The first thing she did upon entering the classroom was message Ling Yanzhi and the others.
They both replied quickly, telling her to stay in the classroom and keep Shen Gu by her side as much as possible.
"Is something wrong?" Shen Gu asked worriedly.
Jian Yu opened her mouth, then looked at his eyes, which seemed even more timid than her own.
"Just a little tired."
’With the big shots handling it, there’s no need for both of us to panic.’
Besides, she had the access privileges from Xi Yu and Ling Yanzhi. She wouldn’t get locked in and be unable to get out like last time.
Jian Yu didn’t mean to underestimate Shen Gu.
She didn’t.
The class atmosphere at Weis Lan Academy was very relaxed, except for Professor Lin’s class, which was more serious.
Shen Gu suggested a compromise. "Why don’t you get some sleep, then? I’ll let you know when Professor Lin arrives."
"Mhm." Jian Yu took the opportunity to lay her head on her desk, trying to calm her racing heart.
She could already control the pink mist, so she wasn’t afraid of it spreading uncontrollably.
But the other two abilities wouldn’t manifest, no matter how she tried to summon them.
Jian Yu took a slow breath, trying hard to calm herself.
She was worried that if her emotions fluctuated, something uncontrollable might happen.
"What do you mean by that?" Yan Qin’s voice exploded next to her.
Jian Yu wearily lifted her head and saw several boys blocking Yan Qin’s way.
One of them pushed Yan Qin down.
He then slammed a heavy genetics textbook onto Yan Qin’s face in a deeply insulting manner.
"It means get lost."
"That’s Chief Sheng’s seat."
"A special admission student like you thinks you’re worthy of sitting in Chief Sheng’s seat?!"
The group all talked at once, their voices sharp and shrill.
A knot of frustration formed in Jian Yu’s chest, and she silently put her head back down.
’As expected, I still can’t stand this kind of behavior.’
’Bullying someone over something so trivial... it’s just pathetic.’
"Has Chairman Sheng ever said this seat was his? I even have access privileges for Zone 3S. A single seat—are you sure Chairman Sheng would squabble with me over it?"
Yan Qin tapped her brooch, then unhurriedly lit up the Star Brain on her wrist.
She glanced in Jian Yu’s direction, as if gauging whether she would expose her lie.
Jian Yu turned her face away.
’Three days of privileges are still privileges. Even if I stood up and made a couple of sarcastic remarks, what good would it do me?’
’Given how thick-skinned Yan Qin is, she probably wouldn’t even feel that embarrassed.’
Besides, speaking objectively, Sheng Yue had indeed never said he would only sit in that spot.
It was just that everyone had heard it so often from the upperclassmen that they automatically labeled it F2.
Yan Qin stared at the back of Jian Yu’s head for a moment, her expression unreadable.
Behind her, seven or eight female students of noble birth stood up.
They were also talking all at once, aggressively pressing their advantage.
The momentum shifted instantly.
Yan Qin said smugly, "Does Chairman Sheng know you’re all fighting his battles for him like this? Do you need me to help publicize how you ’work’ for Chairman Sheng?"
After a few cold snorts, the group scattered.
It had to be said, Yan Qin was much sharper-tongued than Xu Jianjuan and also knew how to leverage the power she had.
Jian Yu could feel the stare on her back hadn’t been withdrawn.
She pretended not to notice and scanned the room for Xu Jianjuan.
She wasn’t in the classroom.
About two minutes later, Xu Jianjuan finally came in through the back door, clutching her books.
In the scene that followed, Huang Yuan was right behind her.
Xu Jianjuan turned and looked at him with cold eyes.
Neither of them spoke.
Jian Yu could sense Huang Yuan’s breath catch for a moment.
A bottle of water was placed on the corner of Xu Jianjuan’s desk, but she ignored it completely.
Jian Yu had to laugh. It was utterly ridiculous.
’The whole "abuser pursues the victim" drama is truly nauseating.’
Xu Jianjuan probably found it disgusting, too.
After sitting down, she kept her eyes on her textbook and didn’t look up once.
It was like there was an unwritten rule at the Noble Academy: everyone ganged up to bully one person at a time.
With Yan Qin taking her place as the new prey, the attention on the previous target, Xu Jianjuan, gradually faded.
Perhaps Xu Jianjuan’s biggest takeaway from this academy was: if you don’t want to be bullied, you have to drag someone else down to take the fall for you.
A small slip of paper landed on Jian Yu’s desk, interrupting her rambling thoughts.
She looked up and met Yan Qin’s gaze, which was filled with encouragement and pity.
Jian Yu’s eyes darted around.
’How bizarre.’
She opened the note, and Yan Qin’s childish words appeared before her.
If you need it, I can help you escape from them and take you away from the Imperial Capital Star. Anytime.
Jian Yu put the note away and listlessly rested her head on her arms.
’Escape?’
’Does she think I’m some tragic female lead?’
’Looks like my acting is pretty good. Not only does no one think I’m just a freeloader, but someone’s even making up stories in their head about rescuing me.’
Everyone scrambled to get into Weis Lan Noble Academy, and not just for the obvious benefits.
It was also because the Alliance’s regulations were unfavorable to ordinary people.
Once you entered Weis Lan Noble Academy, even as an ordinary student who had graduated from Weis Lan over a decade ago, you wouldn’t be trampled on by nobles.
If a student was actually killed, Weis Lan Noble Academy would personally step in to demand justice, ensuring the murderer received the death penalty.
Weis Lan Noble Academy was a typical case of "severe internal strife, but united against outsiders."
So, leave Weis Lan Noble Academy? ’Impossible.’
Jian Yu casually handed the note to Shen Gu. "After Lin Yu reads this, give it to your Chairman Xi."
Shen Gu’s brow furrowed as he read the contents.
He looked like he wanted to say something but stopped himself.
Jian Yu closed her eyes. "Just do as I say. They won’t give you a hard time."
’I’m eating well and living well, yet she’s trying to coax me into living a hard life.’
’I still need to tell Ling Yanzhi and the others about this. I’m worried Yan Qin has another trick up her sleeve.’
Professor Lin entered the classroom.
Jian Yu opened her eyes to find a pink letter had appeared out of thin air on her desk.
"?" She pointed at the letter, looking at Shen Gu in confusion.
Shen Gu froze and shook his head. He didn’t know either.
He made eye contact, glancing toward Yan Qin. ’Could it be Yan Qin again?’
Jian Yu shook her head. ’Looks like a love letter.’
She tucked the pink envelope under a book. It was time to be quiet for class.
Jian Yu didn’t open it until the break between classes.
Besides the letter,
two chains fell out.
Shen Gu stared blankly at them. "Those are pretty unique bracelets."
Jian Yu pursed her lips and lifted one with her fingers.
The chain was woven from red and gold thread, with several carnelian beads. A small red bell dangled after every two beads.
The bells were engraved with fine silver patterns, and their rims were lined with gold foil.
Jian Yu held it up and swung it, letting out a soft jingle. It looked like a string of flowing, fragmented red.
She dropped it back into the envelope, her heart starting to race. "They’re anklets."
’So perverted.’
’So why do I feel a little secret thrill?’
’It would be nice if they were from Ling Yanzhi and Xi Yu.’
’But those two don’t seem like the type to play these kinds of games.’
Jian Yu’s interest flared up and then died down.
Shen Gu was stunned.
He scratched his head. "I seem to remember... Chief Pei really likes to hang these kinds of chains on his clothes. He has a lot of bracelets, too."
