Chapter 465 - 464: Yunyang Volunteers for Battle—No, to Make a Saintly Appearance
"Whew—"
Zhang Hang let out a long breath, then couldn’t help but ask curiously, "You flew all the way from Yangcheng this quickly?"
He had just gotten off the phone with Gu Zhao. Almost immediately after hanging up, he’d run into those two, gotten up to leave, and then been stopped by them.
All in all, it probably hadn’t even been five minutes.
"No." Gu Zhao shook his head. "I was vacationing in Cliff City with Xiao Ya and the others."
Hearing this, Zhang Hang licked his lips and finally made up his mind. "I’m not traveling abroad anymore. If I want to go to the beach, I’ll go to Cliff City, too."
Gu Zhao nodded. "Exactly. Cliff City might be a bit more expensive, but what really draws people to these cities in Southeast Asia, besides the so-called exotic charm, is just sex and gambling. Which one were you interested in?"
Zhang Hang’s eyes widened. "Neither, of course!"
"Then that settles it, right?" As Gu Zhao spoke, he had already flown to Lanqi Manor, where Zhang Hang and Song Qiuqiu had been taken.
This manor covered a large area on the border of Siam and Cambodia. It was surrounded by high walls, with armed guards patrolling the estate.
Inside the manor’s various buildings, rows upon rows of computers were set up. Scammers frantically typed on their keyboards while armed men with knives patrolled the aisles. Shouts echoed intermittently as they exchanged information.
In some of the private rooms, people were tied up and being tortured. Others were thrown into water cells, their miserable pleas for mercy echoing.
Meanwhile, in a three-story building at the very heart of the manor, a middle-aged man with a sinister, imposing face was on the phone.
"What did you say?"
"An Extraordinary Being rescued those two?"
"How could they be so fast? Is the Extraordinary Being Siamese? Weren’t they from Celestial Xia?"
"What? The Extraordinary Being can fly?"
The middle-aged man’s expression changed drastically. Alarms blared in his mind. He immediately hung up the phone, pushed his desk aside, and tried to leave.
But just as he stood up, he saw three figures floating in the air above the manor through his window. One of them turned its head and looked right at him.
Then, his vision went black, and he lost consciousness.
Zhang Hang and Song Qiuqiu also saw the middle-aged man collapse to the ground. Song Qiuqiu shrank back, but Zhang Hang boldly asked, "Is he dead?"
"Dead," Gu Zhao replied. Then, with another wave of his hand, a screaming figure flew out of another building.
"Ding Zehai!"
When enemies meet, their eyes burn with hate. Zhang Hang’s eyes were bloodshot, too. If he hadn’t happened to meet Gu Zhao a few days ago and been given a Golden Gang Bracelet for Song Qiuqiu, she might have died today!
Ding Zehai had been filled with rage, still thinking about how he would torture Zhang Hang once he was caught again. But suddenly, he felt his body go light. An unknown force enveloped him, shattered the glass window, and pulled him into mid-air.
Then he saw Gu Zhao and the other two floating in the air.
Ding Zehai’s heart sank to the pit of his stomach. He finally recalled Zhang Hang’s invulnerable state from earlier.
It turned out Zhang Hang hadn’t gotten a Protective Magical Treasure through some official channel; he actually had an Extraordinary Being for a friend!
Ding Zehai looked at Gu Zhao, about to beg for mercy, when he recognized the Extraordinary Being before him. It was a neighbor he used to hang out with back home.
"Gu... Gu... Gu Zhao?"
Ding Zehai finally remembered Gu Zhao’s name. After all, Gu Zhao had been practicing Martial Arts Training and cultivating the Dao since childhood. While not exactly antisocial, he was low-key, making him easy to overlook.
Back then, Ding Zehai had been a big shot in their social circle and had never paid any attention to a wallflower like Gu Zhao. It was a wonder he even remembered his name.
"Gu Zhao! It’s me, Ding Zehai!" Ding Zehai’s eyes lit up. "We’re childhood friends!"
Before Gu Zhao could speak, Zhang Hang exploded with anger. "Who the hell is childhood friends with you?! How many words have you even spoken to Gu Zhao? Forget childhood friends, even as a neighbor, how could you push me into a pit of fire like this? Has your conscience been eaten by a dog?"
"A misunderstanding! It’s all a misunderstanding!" Ding Zehai gritted his teeth against the pain and hurriedly tried to explain, "I was forced! We have no one to rely on here. To get a foothold, we had to get on the good side of the local powers. Lu Zhikun, he’s..."
Gu Zhao waved his hand, instantly sealing Ding Zehai’s ability to speak.
"I only pulled you out here so you’d understand why you’re going to die," Gu Zhao said flatly. "The masterminds must be killed. The treacherous must be killed. I was going to send you back to face judgment, but on second thought, it would interfere with my Dao Heart. I can’t wait."
Ding Zehai’s eyes went wide. He pressed his palms together, his face a mask of pleading, and began bowing and kowtowing repeatedly in mid-air.
The next moment, with a wave of Gu Zhao’s hand, he was sent right next to the sinister middle-aged man. Ding Zehai felt the force restraining him vanish. Just as he tried to get up and run, his vision went black.
From Zhang Hang and Song Qiuqiu’s perspective, Ding Zehai had just started to get up when he pitched forward and collapsed onto the ground.
Zhang Hang swallowed hard. "Is he dead, too?"
"Dead." Gu Zhao nodded.
"Good riddance!" Zhang Hang said through clenched teeth.
He was just a little scared by the sudden death, not that he thought Ding Zehai didn’t deserve it.
Song Qiuqiu nodded repeatedly. She wasn’t some bleeding heart. Just thinking about the inhuman torture she might have suffered if she’d been dragged into the manor made her wish she could kill every last armed thug in the place herself.
"Let’s go. I’ll take you back home," Gu Zhao said to the two of them.
"Okay." Zhang Hang nodded decisively.
Song Qiuqiu glanced with pity at the men and women peering out the windows at them, their eyes filled with hope, but she didn’t dare ask Gu Zhao to help them.
Then she heard Gu Zhao say, "I’ve already notified others. They’ll be here soon to completely clean out the scam syndicates within Shan Country, Siam, and Cambodia."
Gu Zhao added flatly, "And send them all back home to face trial."
"Huh?" Zhang Hang and Song Qiuqiu were stunned.
Zhang Hang’s eyes shone. "A clean sweep?"
Of course, it wasn’t that he didn’t care about his compatriots trapped in the scam compounds. But he had been saved by Gu Zhao. Since Gu Zhao hadn’t offered, what right did he have to ask him to save anyone else?
But hearing what Gu Zhao said, Zhang Hang immediately grew excited. "The authorities took down a few of the big ones, but all these smaller ones just popped up. Can you guys really wipe them out for good?"
Gu Zhao said flatly, "We can definitely take down all the existing ones. As for whether more pop up in the future, that will depend on how bold the next batch of people are."
As his voice faded, Gu Zhao didn’t linger, taking Zhang Hang and Song Qiuqiu with him as he soared into the sky.
At the same time, Gu Zhao was contacting the old Daoists in his Sea of Consciousness, asking who was free to come and clean up the scam syndicates.
Those burdened with sin would be brought back home to face trial.
Those whose evil was immeasurable would be made into a monument of corpses on the spot.
In the Otherworld, the old Daoists who received Gu Zhao’s message eagerly volunteered. Yunyang was the most enthusiastic of all. "It has to be my turn by now, right?!"
