Wizard: Building a Golem Legion From Zero

Chapter 557 - 541: The Only Drawback Is That It’s Expensive

A streak of light flashed, and Hercules appeared beside him. The Minister of the Anomaly Threat Response Department wore an equally solemn expression.

He glanced at the deadlocked battlefield below and said in a deep voice, "The situation is tricky. These three Demon Monarchs are coordinating too well. With one leading the assault and the other two providing cover, we simply can’t find an opportunity to take them down one by one. If we keep fighting like this, not only will we fail to save your Plane, but we’ll also end up losing our own lives."

He took a breath. The light in his Rune Eye flickered rapidly, seemingly conducting high-intensity tactical simulations, but the results were far from optimistic.

Pausing for a moment, he offered the most rational suggestion. "Apply for emergency intervention from the Association’s Supreme Council. Ask President Augustus to take action personally."

"Ask the President?" Kaspar shook his head bitterly and let out a miserable laugh. "You know as well as I do that the starting price for the President to take action is at least one hundred billion Low-Level Magic Stones! Just to issue this distress quest to the Association, I’ve already paid ten billion! What am I supposed to use to hire him?"

Hercules fell into silence.

One hundred billion. That number was something even a veteran Morning Star like him couldn’t produce.

This had truly exceeded the scope of what they could resolve.

Kaspar looked at the continuously expanding zone of destruction below, feeling a wave of suffocation wash over him.

He snapped his head around to look at Allen, who had just flown over completely unscathed, as if clutching at a final straw. "Vice Minister Wesren! You’ve seen it too; the situation is out of control! I implore you to take action and join the battlefield! If the three of us combine our strength, we can definitely turn the tide!"

Allen’s gaze swept over the tragic battlefield below. He shook his head slightly, his tone apologetic. "Mr. Kaspar, I would love to help. But you should know that I am a Golem Wizard of the Alchemy School. My strength lies in my legion, not in individual combat. Rashly joining a Dawn Star Level close-quarters battle would only make me a burden to you."

Kaspar’s heart sank to the very bottom.

It was true. The other party was a Golem Wizard, and their greatest taboo was being dragged into melee combat by High-tier combatants.

Despair washed over him like a tidal wave, on the verge of drowning his last shred of reason.

"However..." Just as Kaspar was on the brink of a complete breakdown, Allen shifted the conversation, speaking up again with impeccable timing. "I do have an ultimate weapon that can kill a Dawn Star Level Demon Monarch with a single shot. It’s just... the cost is not cheap."

SWISH!

Kaspar’s and Hercules’s eyes simultaneously locked onto Allen.

"Are you going to use that?" The red light in Hercules’s Rune Eye flared intensely. He had seen with his own eyes the terrifying hundred-kilometer scar on the Sky Vault’s Crystal Wall in the Ionia Plane.

"I also want to share the burden of my colleagues." Allen sighed. "Every time that thing is fired at maximum power, it consumes a massive amount of energy. Simply converted..." He looked at Kaspar and enunciated word by word, "It will cost ten billion Low-Level Magic Stones."

Allen threw his hands open, his tone sincere. "I fired a shot in Ionia last time, and my vault has completely bottomed out. However, you can rest assured about its power. As long as it instantly kills one of them, there will only be two left. In a two-on-two scenario, with your combined strength, the battle will instantly turn in your favor."

Another ten billion?!

Kaspar felt as though the sky was falling.

Added to the ten billion for issuing the quest earlier, his assets had been severely crippled.

This wasn’t a Demon invasion; this was an outright draining of his wallet! No matter how deep a Morning Star Wizard’s pockets were, they couldn’t withstand such reckless burning of wealth!

Kaspar fell into a long, agonizing silence.

His gaze repeatedly swept over the collapsing Floating Islands on the light screen. His fists clenched and unclenched, his nails digging deeply into his palms.

"As long as you survive, you can always rebuild, Kaspar," Hercules sighed from the side. "If the Plane is destroyed, everything is gone."

Kaspar closed his eyes. He knew he was just meat on the chopping block now, but he had no other choice.

"Fine." He opened his eyes and forced the word out through gritted teeth. Every syllable seemed to carry blood-dripping humiliation. "I’ll pay for it!"

A proper look of relief immediately surfaced on Allen’s face. He aptly displayed a trace of sympathy. "This is indeed a difficult decision, Mr. Kaspar. But I promise you, its power will absolutely not disappoint."

"Activating the weapon requires ready-made Magic Stones. I wonder if you can provide them right now," Allen added. "The main cannon’s energy conversion system only accepts these."

Fortunately, the Crystal Crown itself was a prosperous commercial Plane. Gnashing his teeth, Kaspar forcefully withdrew all the liquid funds from the Plane’s vault.

A Storage Pouch filled with glittering Crystal Stones was tossed toward Allen.

"Ten thousand High-Level Magic Stones!" Kaspar’s eyes twitched. "Fire that cannon and hit them hard!"

"As you wish. I’ll head back to the warship right now to guide the charging process." Allen steadily caught the Dimensional Bag, turning around to fly into the bridge of the Ten Thousand Miles of Sunshine.

The heavy cabin doors closed shut, isolating him from the fires of war outside.

The mask of sympathy and gentleness on Allen’s face instantly peeled away, replaced by extreme coldness and calculation.

He walked over to the command chair and sat down, lightly swiping his fingertips across the armrest.

A light screen unfurled before his eyes, directly connecting to Mammon.

"The show is just about over, Mammon," Allen said, looking at the light screen. "I got what I wanted. Now, take your legion and retreat. Afterwards, I’ll compensate you with a handsome ’appearance fee.’ It’s a win-win for everyone."

On the light screen, the Phantom of the Greedy Monarch, Mammon, manifested. He fiddled with newly plundered treasures using his dozens of arms and let out an ear-piercing, sinister laugh.

"Wizard, our transaction ended a long time ago." Mammon stared at Allen, his eyes glinting with a greedy red light. "You paid the money, and I finished the job—bringing the legion to this Plane. But now..."

He abruptly spread his arms wide, a terrifying aura boiling across the sky. "The wealth of this Plane is far too tempting! Those pure crystals, that fresh flesh and blood! No one can stop me from swallowing it all! No one!"

SNAP.

The communication was forcefully cut off by Mammon from the other end.

The bridge plunged into a brief Silence.

Allen quietly stared at the dissipating light screen, remaining silent for two seconds before sighing softly. "What a short-sighted freak with no sense of the bigger picture.

"It seems the plan to get ten billion for free has gone up in smoke. The greed of Demons truly is a deep-rooted flaw carved into the very bottom of their souls."

He had originally planned to pull off a scheme without spending a dime—having Mammon play along with the act and retreat, allowing him to pocket the entire ten billion in pure profit. But now, Mammon completely ignored him.

[Commander, shall I initiate the charging sequence for the ’Zero’ main cannon?]

Jarvis’s voice rang out at the perfect time. [Current energy reserves are only at 20%, which is insufficient to complete the firing.]

Allen looked at the heavy Dimensional Bag in his hand, a hint of physical pain flashing across his deep blue eyes.

"Take eight thousand of the High-Level Magic Stones and feed them directly into the Dimension Engine to be converted into pure Magic Power. Inject it into the main cannon." Allen gritted his teeth as he issued the command. "Coupled with our current 20% reserves, that’s enough for one maximum-power shot."

[Command confirmed. Eight billion Magic Stones are in position. Energy conversion is underway.]

Allen leaned back in his chair and rubbed the space between his brows. Although he had skimmed off two billion, actually burning through eight billion still made his heart ache. Burning Magic Stones directly was far too wasteful.

"To think you dared to not cooperate with me, Mammon. I’ll collect on this debt—with interest—from your 7th Floor of Purgatory," Allen said, his tone menacing.

BOOM!

The Ten Thousand Miles of Sunshine suddenly let out an earth-shattering roar. Its massive hull abruptly pulled up, breaking away from the chaotic low-altitude battlefield and thrusting straight into the sky at an altitude of thirty thousand meters like a sharp sword.

Eight billion Low-Level Magic Stones were crushed into powder within the engine, transforming into a vast, boundless torrent of Magic Power that surged wildly toward the bow along the Energy Circuits inside the ship.

To guarantee the main cannon’s power output, the warship’s internal lighting systems were instantly extinguished, and the energy matrices of the eighty-four secondary cannons on both sides were forcibly disconnected. The entire Ten Thousand Miles of Sunshine squeezed every last ounce of its power into the abyssal maw slowly gathering energy at its bow.

The main cannon’s charging progress bar rapidly ticked up on the light screen.

40%... 60%... 80%...

Thirty thousand meters high in the sky, a blinding white light flared at the bow.

The light grew brighter and brighter. The surrounding space began to violently contort under the Suppression of the terrifying energy, displaying ripples visible to the naked eye, as if incubating a supernova on the verge of destroying the world.

On the ground, the rampaging Demon army instinctively sensed the sky-collapsing pressure. Their offensive descended into chaos.

Hercules raised his head, staring at the contorted mass of white light high in the sky with his Rune Eye. Witnessing the commotion of the main cannon charging for the first time, even he couldn’t maintain his composure.

"An energy reaction of this magnitude... what the hell did this kid build?!" he roared through the internal communication channel. "Kaspar! Stop zoning out! Cooperate with me!"

Kaspar was similarly stunned by that apocalyptic coercion, his scalp tingling.

But he immediately snapped back to reality. Ten billion had already been burned! If this shot missed, he might as well find a cesspool and drown himself!

"Source of All Laws—Heavy Pressure Cage!"

Without hesitation, Kaspar burned an excessive amount of his origin Magic Power. He brought his hands together and slammed them downward.

"Titan’s Grip!"

Hercules erupted in sync. His Exotic Magic Power, accompanied by the Power of Laws, transformed into two invisible, sky-obscuring giant hands. From the left and the right, they clamped down in a death grip on the Lord of the 5th Floor—Baal, who was madly massacring across the land.

This conspicuous target, who boasted the largest stature and charged the fiercest, instantly became a sitting duck.

"Let go of me! You lowly bugs!" Baal roared, struggling frantically as He sensed the fatal crisis looming overhead.

His frenzied giant axe seemed ready to cleave the surrounding space into a complete Shattering, but under the desperate Suppression of the two Morning Star Wizards, His massive body was firmly nailed in place.

High above, inside the bridge of the Ten Thousand Miles of Sunshine, the intense flash cast flickering shadows across Allen’s face.

[Charging complete. Target locked: Lord of the 5th Floor of the Abyss, Slaughterer Baal.] Jarvis’s voice echoed, as if a Death God had tolled its bell.

Looking at the firmly restrained prey on the light screen, Allen’s eyes turned ice-cold as he issued the firing command.

"Send it to Zero."
